About Kathy, Don or Jon Forgey
Hi, My husband and I met in 1976 and instantly fell in Love! We married in 1981 at St. Paul's Cathedral in Yakima Wa. Don has had a successful career as a musician since he was 18 years old. He Toured with his band Bazooka Joe around Canada and the Northwest, eventually becoming a solo artist. I supported my husbands dream while establishing a career in Dental offices. We have two wonderful children, a daughter and a son. In 1985 we purchased my husbands family farm and after years of farming, we decided to fix up the Homestead Cabin. Our days are spent enjoying the beautiful property and running our wedding business that has grown into something wonderful.
Kathy, Don or Jon Forgey purchased this Cabin in 1985
Why Kathy, Don or Jon Forgey chose Yakima County
Originally this Cabin was built in the late 1800's. Its historic value has served as a stop over for travelers and was used as a boys home in the 1940s. Switching owners several times to eventually be purchased by my husbands family in 1961. Don and I purchased the property eventually in 1985. The Cabin at this time was in pretty bad shape and was in need of some repairs. For 2 and a half years we spent endless hours on the cabin 7 days a week. From the original hand hewn logs, to the exposed chinking we decided to keep the cabin feeling as original as possible. Although some parts of the Cabin had to be modernized for comfort and safety, the original feel of the cabin still remains. Soon after we completed the restoration we decided to share the cabin as a nightly rental. After a few years of renting the cabin, people had begun to inquire about having weddings here. As the weddings grew it became very apparent that we needed to expand. It was Don's great idea to turn our old hay barn into a wedding facility. Which brings us to present day, where we enjoy having weddings from mid-April to the end of October. During our busy wedding season the Cabin comes with the facility as a wedding package. The rest of the year we Rent our Cabin separately for Romantic getaways for couples, small family gatherings, and folks who enjoy winter sports nearby! Our cabin accommodates up to 10 people. We look forward to meeting all of our guests and sharing this Historic Homestead Cabin.

Fast response and always available to answer questions. Home was so cute and cozy. Kathy was awesome
We had an amazing stay. Very easy to find. Two mini trails with gorgeous views. Owners were great and super helpful. Perfect for our bridal/grooms getaway.
Quiet, cozy, relaxing, perfect
The cabin is cozy and relaxing! With 10 people it was perfect, full kitchen, hot tub and lots of room to move around. Kathy was great to work with and I would recommend this place if you want to get away for a weekend. Though the stay was short, we all enjoyed it very much.
Awesome cabin with great views!
My family and I loved the American Homestead Cabin. We definitely want to come back soon!
Kathy and Jon were best hosts ever!
The best part of this place was the owners, Kathy and her son, Jon, who were best hosts ever! So sweet, accommodating and helpful. We just loved them. Our ladies group rents through VRBO every year for over 20 years, and this is first time we were greeted and welcomed by hosts and shown around the place explaining how everything worked, etc. Such a nice welcome!
You will enjoy your stay here.
This is such a unique property and was such a lovely experience for our annual Ladies Retreat. We were lucky to have a dusting of snow while we were there; enough to make it beautiful for walks on the property but not so much to be snowed in.
There were 8 women in our party. For that many women, the sleeping arrangements were not ideal, but we made do. Kathy brought over mats for two of the ladies.
This home is ideal for 2 couples. There are 5 bedrooms. A master with comfortable King downstairs, and a very nice bedroom with a comfortable queen upstairs.
The other bedrooms upstairs were darling to look at but small, with no storage to speak of. They would be fine for kids but for our ladies they were a bit lacking. A night stand and some hooks on the walls, or bench to put suitcase or cloths on was in one room, and it would be nice to have in all the upstairs bedrooms. We improvised and made it work. I recommend you bring your own pillows.
Kitchen was adequate for most people. And Kathy was able to provide most things we needed that were not there. If you don't plan on cooking gourmet meals for 8 people, this kitchen will easily meet you needs.
The living room was very cozy and had comfortable seating for all of us! Very few places we stay have such nice comfortable living area as this one did!
There is more to say good about this house and I only mention the little items that were a challenge so you are prepared for a lovely comfortable stay here.
It was very clean, cozy and inviting. The hot tub was clean and worked well, also, which was a bonus.
I would stay here again.
Amazing old log cabin. With all the amenities. Beautiful land to wander around. The people that run
Fire pit outside well stocked with wood. Hot tub clean n close to the house. Enjoyed it recommended to all.
Beautiful surroundings and charming cabin
This quaint cabin is tastefully decorated and located in a beautiful valley next to a small river. The hot tub looked inviting, but we didn't end up using it because the weather was so cold while we were there! We enjoyed the large selection of movies and games available as well and the town of Naches is charming.
