Private 1st Floor Studio in Victorian Home - Steps to LL Bean, Downtown Freeport
This charming, Victorian house has recently been renovated, and the first floor is now available to rent as a studio apartment. The rest of the property and grounds are unoccupied for your privacy. It has a new, modern kitchen, a small bath with a walk-in shower, a lovely dining room, and a living room/bedroom area with a comfortable, king sized bed. A five-to-ten-minute walk will get you to downtown Freeport and the L.L. Bean flagship store, shops, and restaurants. The trails and rocky coast of Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park and the beach at Winslow Park are less than a 15-minute drive away.
A gravel pathway from the driveway brings you to a back porch and entrance to the house. The back porch gives you a view of a field, and you might catch a glimpse of birds such as robins, American goldfinches, and the occasional cardinal. From the porch, you enter the house into a small hallway with storage shelves that contain board games and other items. A wooden door brings you to the kitchen. (As is common in old houses, the door sometimes sticks, especially in the summer, so you might have to give it an extra push or pull.)
The modern kitchen is fully outfitted for your convenience with dishes, cookware and cooking utensils, and flatware. There is a dishwasher, refrigerator, microwave, and a stove with an induction cooktop. Small appliances include a coffeemaker, toaster, blender, and Instant pot. Three windows make the kitchen light and airy.
The kitchen leads into the dining room. The dining room has a simple elegance with burnt orange curtains, a Tiffany lamp, and an original glass cabinet. There is attractive woodwork and large windows. The heat in the apartment can be controlled by the thermostat on the dining room wall. The AC is also in the dining room during summer months and can be used to cool the dining and living room/bedroom areas. (Box fans are also available in the kitchen.) The dining room is separated from the living room/bedroom area by pocket doors.
Bay windows brighten the living room/bedroom area, and blackout curtains provide privacy and block out light for sleep and for cooling in summer months. The king sized bed is prepared with cotton sheets and sets of firm and soft pillows. In addition to the bed, there is a couch where you can lounge and relax. A 32” Vizio smart TV as well as an upright piano help to keep you entertained. The fireplace has beautiful woodwork and tiles. (Fires are not permitted though.)
A small bathroom with a black-and-white tiled floor and a walk-in shower with a glass door is located off of the dining room. The bathroom contains a European-style, compact all-in-one washer/dryer.

We enjoyed our stay! The location is perfect, close to shops and restaurants. The space was larger than we anticipated. The kitchen is well stocked and the bathroom is lovely. Check in was easy and Amy was very responsive. We will definitely stay here again next time we are in Freeport.

We are glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope to have you back in Freeport again.
This was the third time that my husband and I stayed at this historic Victorian in downtown Freeport. The location is ideal, allowing us to walk freely to and from the shops and restaurants during our stay. Over the past three years, the owner has made some wonderful updates that she communicated freely ahead of travel season and were appreciated during our stay. We hope to book again next year for our vacation!

Thank you, Jessica! We are so pleased that you returned again. We appreciate your feedback and are happy that you enjoyed your visit.
The host was very accommodating and communicative throughout the stay, which I really appreciated. The house itself was lovely—located in a quiet neighborhood and perfect for a relaxing stay. It’s only about 20 minutes from downtown Portland, so the location worked out great. The only minor downside was the washer/dryer combo, which was a bit confusing to use, but to be fair, the host had mentioned that ahead of time. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would happily return!

Hi Lisa,
Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review. I'm so glad that you enjoyed staying at our house. I hope that you figured out the washer/dryer as I can see it might be a bit confusing the first time you use one. You were a great guest, and we would love to have you again if you find yourself back in Freeport.

This is the second year that my husband and I have stayed at Mary’s Manor. The host, Amy, is wonderful to work with and I would not hesitate to book again next year. The location, remodeled kitchen and bath, and intriguing history of the property certainly are all positive draws!

Thank you, Jessica, for taking the time to write a nice review and for your kind words. You and your husband are wonderful guests, and we were pleased that you chose to return to stay at our house again this year.
Lovely property right in Freeport near restaurants, shopping. Modern kitchen and bathroom still match the Victorian vibe of the property. I would definitely stay here again and is well worth the price for what you get, especially compared to the hotel chains in this area that leave much to be desired. The host is very accommodating and I appreciated her quick response to my needs and questions.
My husband and I came here for the Freeport Fall Festival for our babymoon! The home was historic and beautiful. It was such an easy walk to Main Street that we really never left the area. Amy was so sweet and accommodating and easily reachable although we had no issues. We would absolutely recommend it to anyone we know and we would be happy to stay again!

Thank you for your kind words, Karina. We were honored that you chose to stay at Mary’s Manor for your babymoon. We’d love to have you back again!
This was my second time staying at this recently opened property. It's a really nice space -- an eat-in-kitchen leading into a dining room, which is adjacent to a bedroom with couch and even a piano! Top notch renovation, with all necessities provided, and the hosts will get right back with you if you need anything. They're continuing to add new amenities and the property is located in a quiet residential area -- you can hear a pin drop at night! Highly recommended for one or two people looking for a homey home away from home!
Booked this for Parents Weekend at Bowdoin when all the places there were booked or ridiculously priced. I was a little confused by the description as being a studio but there were pictures of other rooms including a full kitchen and dining room that are all for the people staying there. The kitchen and bathroom seem to be recently remodeled. The house is classic in its layout. You are sleeping in what would probably be considered a living room at the front of the house, but the street is quiet and there are black out curtains that keep it nice and dark, which is great when you are coming from the West Coast. Easy walking to the stores in Freeport and not a bad drive from Brunswick or Portland.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review with details that might be useful to future guests. We hope to host you again in the future.
As one of the first guests of this newly renovated property, I was more than pleased with the quality of the space -- three rooms in a gorgeous Queen Anne style home, close to all that Freeport has to offer.
This is a quiet, private unit with lots of elbow room. The eat-in kitchen has top-notch appliances and finishes, as does the large tiled bathroom. There's plenty of air and light, and for summer visitors, a great garden surrounding the space. This apartment will only get more attractive with time, as its owners continue to add to it. I plan on returning and look forward to it!

Thank you so much for the review, Ron! We truly enjoyed hosting you in our home and hope you come again.
My husband and I were the first couple to stay at this rental. We had a wonderful time, the host was great to work with, and the updates to the first floor of this home (the rented accommodations) have been done very thoughtfully. Now, to be clear, no one lives on the second floor of this home. The host is slowly working to update this area throughout the year when time allows and in between rentals; this is also stated in the posting. The location of this home is perfect for walking to many of the shopping locations in Freeport. With ease of access, cleanliness, communication, and our interest in home projects, this is definitely on our list to return to in future years!

Why they chose this property
“Mary’s Manor” is the name my mom, Mary, gave our home when she welcomed friends and family as guests. Our Queen Anne Victorian house was built at the turn of the century by Henry and Nell Gould (“Uncle Henry” and “Aunt Nell”). Henry owned a shoe store in downtown Freeport at the same time that his neighbor down the street, Leon Bean (L.L. Bean), owned a boot store, where he sold his famous duck boot. The house was then passed down to my great-grandmother, Fannie Plummer, who lived in a section of the house upstairs while sharing it with a family that rented from her. My mother and father later bought the house from her, and the house became the childhood home of my sister and me. Many special moments have happened at Mary's Manor, including the marriage of my sister to her husband and the wedding of my mom's good friend. Now my husband and I are proud owners of our family home. We enjoy spending vacations in the house as well as sharing it with guests like you. We welcome you to our home and hope that you enjoy your stay here as our guest!
