Perched on top of Suck Creek Mountain, Blackbird Cabin is a soulful little hideaway designed for deep breaths and slow mornings. Whether you’re sipping coffee under cedar ceilings, grilling lunch on the patio, or reading on the screened-in porch as the sun sets, this is your chance to truly unplug.
Step outside and nature’s playground awaits: hike next door Prentice Cooper State Forest, meander the private trails on our 82-acre retreat, or drop into Suck Creek with a kayak or fishing pole. This mountaintop escape is as peaceful or adventurous as you want it to be.
The Space
Blackbird is one of four unique cabins in the Songbird Neighborhood at Talking Water Nature Retreat, a family-owned, lovingly restored 82-acre retreat with trails, creek, forest, and thoughtful gathering spaces for groups big and small.
Inside the cabin, you’ll find:
Cedar ceilings and cozy, earthy decor

A built-in queen-over-queen bunk (sleeps 4)

A twin daybed on the screened-in porch (aka the perfect nap spot)

ENO hammock hooks for two (we provide hammocks & straps!)

Full bathroom with shower (plus seasonal outdoor shower)

Full kitchen stocked with dishes

Small smart TV, WiFi, and an indoor electric fireplace for creature comforts

Private double patio with camp-style grill, firepit, and seating

Additionally, rental of Blackbird Cabin includes shared access to the Songbird Pavilion, a communal space with:
Outdoor kitchen (electric griddle, sink, & cabinets)

Firepit, picnic seating, and gathering spaces

A slide, swing, tetherball, and nature trails for all ages

Guest laundry and extra games/toiletries nearby in the garage

Guest Access
You’ll have full access to Blackbird Cabin and its adjacent outdoor areas, including the screened porch and patio with a grill. You're also welcome to use the shared Songbird Pavilion and guest laundry amenities.
Two parking spaces are reserved for you. Let us know in advance if you'll need more.

Pet Policy
Pets are welcome with prior approval. Here’s what to know:
A pet fee applies. We offer a 50% “honesty discount” when you notify us in advance

The full $100 fee applies if pets are undeclared or unpaid before arrival

Pets must be crated when unattended (crates available on request)

Guests are responsible for cleanup and any damage
