We booked this apartment nearly a year ahead based on strong reviews and VRBO's "exceptional" rating. We wanted space to spread out and cook, since we usually stay in hotels on the island. On arrival, we found it tucked behind a bike shop and food kiosk (both owned by the same family), facing a cramped parking area with constant traffic, and hemmed in by neighboring houses. There were no blackout blinds, and in the east-facing bedroom, morning sun shines right into your eyes. The mattress had no protector and visible stains. The pots and pans were burnt, and we found used toiletries and a used toothbrush left behind. Internet was slow enough that cell service was faster. The owner was slow to respond, and while his wife replied quickly, she was curt and took no accountability for the property's condition. This became clear once we looked closer: the unit appeared tidy at a glance, but we found blood splatters on the walls and bedding, plus black mold in the bathroom that hadn't been cleaned in some time. When we showed her the mold and raised concerns about treating it around our baby, since the chemicals can be harmful to infants, she simply said they'd "air out the place," seemingly unaware hot showers can spread mold spores. She did send "fresh" sheets, but they were unopened, still in store packaging, and the communal washer/dryer was filthy too.We left a day early over cleanliness and health concerns and had to involve VRBO. We can't recommend this property.
