Exactly what we were looking for. Very comfortable and well appointed place to stay. The place is perfect, everything you need readily available and a host that fills you in on all the important things, like knowing that there really is no grocery store in town. My wife and I left feeling like we got exactly what we wanted out of the weekend stay. Nice quiet place, sit on porch, read and relax. No rushing around and dealing with crowds. If you’re looking to just chill out of a few days this is a great place to visit and the Kate above the Mercantile was ideal. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks

Lovely place!

We have stayed in Kate twice now and we love it. It is newly remodeled, very clean, and has everything we need from a fully stocked kitchen to a sound machine for sleeping. It is in the perfect location, within walking distance of everything and has a lovely porch that oversees Cedar Key. Highly recommend!!!

Hidden Gem

Such a hidden gem in Cedar Key! The apartment is super cute and right in the center of the shopping plaza. Many shops and places to eat at a walking distance. Everything was clean and tidy when we arrived. My husband and I absolutely loved this place. We are hoping to come back soon!

The property was beautiful and the apartment was comfortable. Everything was provided and the owners provided great service. Unfortunately at this time there are limited dining options on the island and the three meals we ate there were not great.

Great place

The property was easy to find, great parking, easy access, great location. The place they created in a historic building is great. They put good quality finishes when the place was built. The location is great. We walked everywhere. The outdoor seating was a nice touch. Hosts were very accommodating when we had to switch the days we were staying due to our flight changing. Would recommend to anyone.

Nicely decorated and comfortable VRBO

We loved our stay in ‘Kate’. Nicely decorated VRBO with a well-equipped kitchen. The porch was the favorite part of our stay. There is ample seating on the porch; sitting on the large swing with a cup of coffee and a book was relaxing. We also sat there to watch the sunset. The host was responsive. We’ll definitely stay here the next time we visit Cedar Key.

Milestone Birthday

Was one of the best getaways we have done. The apartment was awesome! Top of the line with EVERYTHING- including the sheets!. Was a little confused with the high end washer and dryer. Wasn't sure how to use it compared to my old cheap one at home! LOL. Wendi was awesome and we want to book again!

Gem in Cedar Key

This property can not be beat! Right in the heart of Cedar Key within a couple blocks of everything you need to see and do, we lucked out! The property was spotless, top to bottom, with all high end finishes. We could hear everything going on in the unit next to us and imagine another door and/or insulation will take care of that problem between the two adjoining units. Otherwise, we miss saying hi to our Pelican Pal George flying in the dining room, the GORGEOUS wood ceiling, powered reclining sofa, elegantly appointed bathroom, rocking chairs out on the balconies, lovely shop keepers downstairs, and all the fabulous restaurants within seconds/minutes walking distance.

We so very much appreciate your positive comments, and are really glad you enjoyed your stay! The pelican is our favorite touch, he was destined to be there overseeing the place. The wood ceiling is the historic old floor from the building reused in a most wonderful way. Glad you noticed. We love the shop downstairs, Main Street Mercantile. It is our favorite in town and a new seafood market is opening in the back of the building. Super convenient. We look forward to hosting you again!

À propos de l’hôte

Hôte : Pelican Vacation Home

Image de profil de l’hôte
Cedar Key holds a very special place in our hearts. It isn't just where our business is located; it is the backdrop to our lives, our family, and our community for the past decade. Our Roots on the Water Our journey here began as marine biologists. Stephanie started her work at the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) building by the Channel 4 bridge in 2015, and Johnny joined her in 2016. For almost nine years, we pulled in thousands of nets and counted and measured hundreds of thousands of fish to help preserve these precious local resources for future generations. While working full-time for the FWC, we simultaneously built a house in Bronson and earned our Master's degrees in Fisheries Science. We are no strangers to complex, dynamic workloads! After our time with the FWC, we both took positions with the University of Florida's Nature Coast Biological Station (NCBS), deepening our connection to the area's incredible ecosystem. Growing Our Family & Community This community holds so much history for us. We were married on Atsena Otie Key in 2022 with beautiful Cedar Key as our background. In July 2023, we welcomed our amazing daughter, Eva. Along with our two rescue dogs—Goose (a GSP) and Honey Bee (a pointer mix)—Eva has already spent some very special years growing up in Cedar Key. Over the last decade, we have forged lifelong friendships here. Together, we’ve weathered every horrendous hurricane since 2016, from Hermine to Helene, and have seen firsthand how the island has evolved. We’ve watched this community rally—every single time. It is truly inspiring to see everyone come together to lend a hand and help their neighbors in need. Because Cedar Key has given so much to our family, we are deeply committed to giving back, whether that means helping clean up after a storm or proudly sponsoring local events.

Voici pourquoi l’hôte a choisi cet hébergement

Vacant for 15 years, this is now a home that others can come and enjoy small town livings even if just for a couple nights!

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

This building is from 1872 and we have worked to restore it and yet provide modern amenities. It's right in the heart of downtown so you won't need a car unless you are venturing away from the island. The porch is magnificent and a great way to unwind! Boat/trailer parking included for our guests!
