Sunrise Nook

Nestled on the shore of Lake Michigan, this Washington Island log cabin boasts sleeping for up to 7 people: 1 queen bed, 2 full beds, and 1 twin bed. Like most cabin rentals on Washington Island, we provide blankets & pillows, as well as dish & hand towels, but not sheets or bath towels. (See the amenities list for other details).
Take a beautiful car ferry from Northport, WI, to relax and unwind in rustic comfort. Sit on the deck or walk along the short boardwalk to watch a gorgeous sunrise; sit around the campfire to enjoy million-star skies. The cabin offers a beautiful propane stove (think: woodstove look without the woodstove mess), as well as electric baseboard heat; full kitchen, comfy living room with a high ceiling & skylights, cards & cribbage & games; no wifi but a great selection of DVDs to enjoy with the whole family.
Guests often book both Sunrise Lodge and Sunrise Nook, as they are on neighboring shorefront lots. Each cabin has about 200' of rocky shore with shallow water that is perfect for wading, kayaking or canoeing, and is just right for groups that include young children. Families love to be able to have multi-generational stays with just-enough-but-not-too-much togetherness! ;-)

Very quiet, peaceful location. We enjoyed sitting on the deck, looking at the lake!

It's a beautiful cabin with very cozy rooms. Truly gorgeous wood everywhere. Lots of natural light and gas stoves. Close to the lakefront (with a little wooden cosway trail), quiet, surrounded by very serene natural areas. Only negative was the smell of sewer gases coming up from the drain whenever the water was running in the bathroom sink, shower, or kitchen sink. It was tolerable but just not so nice to smell that during a shower or when there was running water in a sink. We'd stay there again on a future visit to Washington Island. Overall, a really warm, welcoming place. Very reasonable price.

The Nook was comfy and had a great view of the east side of the island. The tap water does have a rusty smell to it, but I've stayed in other places on the island that also have that problem so it wasn't that big of a deal.

Born and raised in Wisconsin, Gabrielle has spent most of her life in the Midwest. Though she no longer lives on Washington Island year round, the island is where her heart is! She & her family - husband Peter, grown sons Soren & Miles, DIL Michaela - cherish this place that has been in her family for 45 years.
One of her favorite things is to share the gift of these cabins with others who come to love & cherish it as she & her family do.

Voici pourquoi l’hĂŽte a choisi cet hĂ©bergement

Gabrielle's parents first came to Washington Island in the 1970s. They fell in love with it and were wise enough to buy right away. Gabrielle and her siblings grew up splashing in the lake, canoeing, and hiking & biking all over the island.
She loves the memories of building the cabins, having her first job, and laughter under the stars.

Voici ce qui rend cet hébergement unique

The Nook is on the northernmost of three lots (the Lodge is one lot south). The Nook was designed and built by Peter (along with island craftsmen) for Gabrielle's parents. It is built with very large logs in the lateral groove (or chinkless) style. The cabin is lighter and airier, a bit smaller than the Lodge but more modern.
The Nook is set a bit farther back from the lake, though still has gorgeous lake views and the lake is very accessible by a custom boardwalk.
People often book both the Nook and the Lodge together; one favorite approach is to have parents and children in one cabin, with grandparents in the other.
