This property is a magnificent tropical paradise surrounded by modern convenience. These Ocean View Villas sit 400 feet above the Golfo Dulce and the backyard offers 120-degree view of the ocean and mountains, which are accented by the lush jungle surroundings. The mountains of the Osa peninsula drape the crystal blue waters of the gulf creating a tropical collage. This is truly a place where nature meets its origin. .
When not being entertained by the view or exotic wild life, play a game of darts, horse shoes or pitch some golf balls to my adjacent lot. You can also visit one of the many neighborhood waterfalls, one of which is a 10 minute walk from the house.
The property is quitely situated just a few minutes outside of the main town of Pavones and is easily accessible from the main service road (no off road treking required to arrive safely at this property). It is secured by a full time caretaker, offering peace of mind, privacy and security, so you may relax and enjoy your ultimate adventure vacation

We're still waiting for our security deposit We were disappointed that we could not contact our families over Christmas due to the Wi Fi being down. Having Wi Fi was a big consideration of ours when deciding on accommodation. The listingl advertised bicycle/surfboard/snorkle etc. usage but they were not made available and no info posted on how to access them. It was described as a Pavones listing but was much further away from what is commonly considered Pavones (Rio Claro), not a "few minutes". It was also a lot further from the beach than was advertisedOwner response: John, in 8 years of making our home available for rental vacations this is the 1st review that did not rate us with 5 stars. It has always been our goal to advertise with integrity and over deliver against the expectations of our clients. That is why our listing provides a detailed Google earth map showing the location of our home and all relative points of interest in the area. We also provide a list of local operators that offer services such as bikes, fishing, snorkel gear, surfboards etc. in the event you are not satisfied with our selection or prices. We also apologize for the problems that you experienced with our WiFi. It was unfortunate that we could not replace the faulty SIM card during the Christmas holiday. We hope that the alternative internet locations that we provided offered some relief to the situation. We appreciate your feedback and hope that the 3 stars that you awarded us was a reflection of the beauty and functionality of the house, property and staff that serviced you during your visit.

if you like awesome things like hiking to hidden waterfalls and swimming in them, or surfing a point break with just you and your friends, or eating fish fresh off the boat, or riding around the jungle on a quad while scarlett mcaws fly overhead, or leaving civilization behind in search of an epic secluded paradise untouched by urbanity, or picking fruit off the trees for your breakfast, or just having a quiet retreat away from absolutely everything then you will love this place. if you like partying and lots of tourists and expensive meals then you should check out jaco and good luck with that. pluses: beautiful home and immaculate grounds, peaceful, amazing views especially at sunset, great hammock spots, fruit everyday from the property, away from the crowds, great kitchen for cooking, lovely neighbors and of course JAVIER! minuses: a bit remote without proper transport. come prepared with a fourwheel drive car or be prepared to rent a quad. would i change a thing? no. nada.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.
Owner response: It was fun hanging out with you and Nicole. I'm glad you got the full month version of the experience, cause there is so much more to see and do than you can possibly fit into a week or 10 days. Hope to see you again in May. Pura Vida

We had an excellent stay at Paraiso de Miguel! House is on a hill with an ocean view and wonderful breeze. The caretaker Javier was also very helpful and hospitable. There are many fruit trees on the property. We had fresh coconut juice every morning! The house itself is very well stocked -- pots, pans, plates, cups, tools, blender, coffee machine, grill, flashlight, aluminum foil, plastic wrap, peelers, etc. -- anything you would stock in a long-term home it already has. It is about a 25 min atv ride to the town of Pavones and about 20 minutes to the town of Comte which has a very good butcher. It's a bit further than some of the other properties -- but for the value, it is well worth it. Would definitely stay again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.

Our stay was fantastic. Micheal and Elizabeth were great hosts. Pavones is known for surfing but Michael and Elizabeth had a plethora of suggestions for fun activities for us non-surfers. There were a total of 6 of us and the house accommodated us very easily. We had two teenage boys that were surfers. It is quite a far walk to the beach, but Michael hooked them up with a quad and they were happy campers. The rest of us had a great time stand up paddling, horseback riding on the beach and hiking to a hidden waterfall. We hired Michael and Elizabeth to cook two meal for us and it was very worth the price. The meals were incredible, reasonably priced and they were very accommodating about serving us when we wanted and cleaning up the kitchen. The grocery stores are hit and miss in Pavones so after one botched attempt to cook, we were very happy to let our hosts cater. They also had great recommendations for restaurants and many other activities that we were unable to do because we ran out of time. The best part about staying in this house was that Michael and Elizabeth were able to recommend activities and were very approachable when we needed anything. We felt like we were able to experience Pavones from a local, not a tourist perspective.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Location was beautiful. If anything, photos don't do it justice. Clearly a great destination for surfers, but also a great option for anyone wanting to be a bit more off the beaten track. Mike and Elizabeth were great hosts and more than willing to make recommendations or help arrange activities.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Dear Lizzie, Michael, Pauly and Peggy, WE MISS YOU, sorry for the delay. Our vacation was 1 of a kind, we are certain that we will never be able to come close to the marvelous time we had at your home. The house was amazing...open, airy with views to die for, seeing the toucans, parrots and various birds every am/pm from our back porch, were an absolute delight...our 12 miles hike day...circling up around Joe's and down to the beach, then the waterfall and back home to just beat a welcoming rain, proved to be exciting with the scarlette macaws, slothes, white face and howler monkeys...Our fishing trip w/ the local tico William was the trip of a lifetime, only 5 hrs out and we caught, 1 bull dorado, 1 female dorado, 1 mackeral and 1 black tuna...not to mention the ray Dan hooked into that was about the size of the boat, thank God he snapped the line....lol...hiking the rivers and driving the beach, kayaking the gulf, (sorry about the panic...we gave you)...lol.....paddle boarding...and the horseshoe tourny in Zancudo...thanks for finding Dan's shoe Lizzie! Our weekly trek to Pavones to the vegetarian cafe to have some of Derio's choc brownies and fresh smoothies with REAL Fruit not in a carton...We enjoyed our trips to the border town...and Golfito...the sites on the way are well worth the bumpy rds you have to endure to get there....Our 3 day trip to Carate across the Gulf (while Lizzie had her root canal...poor thing)..Staying at the Lookout Inn and seeing a Tapar on the Beach up close and personal, a Coate, zillion macaws and every species of monkey in costa rica... the beaches at Carate were quite sandy and the waves amazing for body and boogy boarding...we recommend that you take a boat there if you are not fond of the bumpy roads because the last 10 miles to carate were the worst rds in the world...almost turned back twice, but so glad we didn't! One of our favorite nights was the meal at your house, w/ dan and Michael Jackson playing the guitars and enjoying Lizzie's amazing cooking, lovely memories...xo...thank you Michael for the daily briefing on who we were and what day it was, w/o that we would still be lost, lol thank you for opening up your home, hearts and dogs to us, we enjoyed every second of our stay, the fresh oranges, banana, pinapple, avacados, lemons on your property! We will be BACK to see the whales! We love you, peace love and eternal sunshine, DAN and Patti (not a place for the high maintenance type, adventurous type only) xoRecommended for: Adventure seekers.

In our first trip to Costa Rica we were lucky enough to stay at Paraiso Miguel. The house, the property, the beaches, and most of all the hospitality of our hosts Beth and Michael made it the trip of a lifetime. It would be close to impossible to overstate how Beth and Michael helped make our trip so incredibly wonderful. From the lists of what we needed and needed to know to helping us make our car rental arrangements before we arrived to the bonfire on the beach on our last night, they were the perfect hosts. Trip highlights: watching the bowl games at the local ex-pat bar fifty steps from one of the most perfect beaches on planet Earth. Mountain biking down to the beach near the local fishing “village” for a day of paddleboarding and sea kayaking. Michael leading us on a short hike to a 70-foot waterfall hidden in the jungle. The amazing meals prepared for us by our hosts. Rum drinks straight from coconuts that Michael had just cut from the tree were marvelous. The home sits atop a huge hill with achingly beautiful views of the Gulf. It is tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Television (not that you’ll watch it), stereo, kitchen, all the comforts of home in a house carved out of the jungle. On the property are monkeys, a sloth, parrots everywhere. Hammocks are strategically placed to take advantage of breezes and views. For people looking for the real Costa Rica, the comforts of home without the crowds, this may be the perfect spot. It’s not a catch phrase coined by some marketing firm. For locals it’s a knowing greeting “Pura Vida.”Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, age 55+.

Where do i begin??? We just returned from our 10 day honeymoon, and Paraiso de Miguel was definitely a highlight! We stayed here for the first three nights of our trip. Michael suggested a private dinner prepared by his wife Beth as a surprise for our first night in Pavones. The dinner was great! Blended rum drinks served in coconuts, followed by grilled snapper w/ pasta, and finished off with brownie sundays! Actually it was finished off by an impromptu fireworks display that Mike even kept secret from me! Suggestion: Do not be on the bottom tier of Mike's property when he is shooting fireworks, for some reason they go down instead of up! It was so funny! All joking aside, Mike is a great host! The best part was that Mike recognized that we didnt just wanna hang at the property, we wanted to get out there and have an experience! Mike suggested the local horseshoe tournament, and even accompanied us down there at our request! This turned into a great time! Mike gives you the local knowlege that you need so that you can settle in and start experiencing the area right away! The property is everything that ad says it is and more! The real value of this place is the anticipation of guest needs by Michael and Beth. I work for the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. and this is a service value that we stress! From the surprise dinner, to the to the need to know information, to Michael taking time out of his day to show us a good time, you cannot go wrong with Paraiso de Miguel!!! Thank Again, Justin and Kimberly CarrollRecommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway.

This was our first time to Costa Rica. We've traveled all over and this was one of the best trips we've done yet. The pictures that are put up don't give it justice. The place sits on a hill overlooking the jungle and the bay. The ocean is only 5 minutes down the hill for fishing, kayaking, and surfing. The house sits in some of the most beautiful area I've ever seen in the world. Michael and Beth, thank you for sharing your house with us. You were wonderful hosts, far more than I ever expected.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, pet owners.
Owner response: You guys were awesome guests. Hope you make it back again next year. Stay safe Josh! Semper Fidelis

I've been meaning to write this since our trip last Feb/2011. We've been to CR many times, and found this property hard to beat! So peaceful and beautiful, with all the amenities we Americans are so used to! Wonderful friendly hosts, as well as meeting other friendly travelers/expats made our stay very fun, relaxing and carefree. Would most definitely go back!Recommended for: Sightseeing, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, age 55+.
Owner response: Thanks for the great review. We had a great time with you and Lester and are looking forward to our next SUP outting together. PS. Please tell Lester that I am taking good care of his rubber boots!

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: I am originally from the San Diego area of Southern California. I grew up by the beach and have always enjoyed the life style and abundance of outdoor activities that ocean living provides. In 1978, just 6 months out of high school, I embarked on a 6 month surf adventure, traveling throughout most of the countries in Central America. I was immediately drawn to the people, culture and raw beauty of the land. It was an experience that changed my life. After returning to the states, I dreamed of some day owning a home in the tropics of Latin America. In 2004, I realized my dream by purchasing this magnificent property in the Pavones area of Costa Rica. So far ownership in the tropics has been an incredible experience, an experience I hope everyone has the opportunity to enjoy. Life in Pavones is 'Pura Vida'.
Why the Owner Chose Pavones:
The area of Pavones and the Osa peninsula have been relatively untouched by development. It is a place where you can go to experience world class surfing and fishing, while being surrounded by broad variety of plants, animals, birds and marine life. It's like being in a zoo without cages. I love the rugged beauty of the area, culture and beautiful nature of the people.
The Unique Benefits at this Villa:
The view of the ocean and mountains is incredible! I really enjoy being able to view a variety of wild life from the house or while wandering the property. The house is easily accessable from the main road and is in the safe and secure neighborhood of Cuervito. The property is loaded with fruit trees which make great morning, afternoon or evening snacks. The house offers the most modern conveniences of any other home rental in Pavones. You may be in the jungle, but you won't miss the modern conveniences of home
