Why the Owner Chose Abiquiu
I bought this house because it had a special feeling and it was located right across the street from Georgia O'Keeffe's, which I thought was a good location. I thought I would leave it to my sons who are both artists, so they could paint a picture, and put it outside for tourists to see, live in it, or turn it into a gallery. People from all over the world come by every day looking in Georgia's yard, asking if her house truly is the one across the street, as neither hers or this one have signs.
The Unique Benefits at this Authentic Old Adobe Home
You will get to live in the heart of Abiquiu, right on the plaza, across from Miss O'Keeffe's, the church and the library. You can experience the vegetation, the birds and the coolness of the yard by sitting on the outside bancos or the table and chairs. The view of Georgia's yard is beautiful, the space is peaceful and serene.
Our fabulous house located in the "village" of Abiquiu. Take the road directly across from Bode's General Store, up the hill past the post office. Cross the cattleguard, turn left. We are the first
Her beautiful summer house and garden, located directly across the street from Casita~de~Chocolate and the Casita's coyote fence.

Beautiful Benedictine Brothers' Monastery with Sunday 9:15am Mass, located down a long dirt road #151, running alongside the Chama River in an exquisite canyon. An experience not to be missed.
Located one block down the hill from the Casita on Hwy 84, across the highway from the Abiquiu Post Office. The general store has groceries, books, curios, alcoholic beverages and gas.
Elegant patio restuarant in old adobe house, open throughout the summer, weekends only. Reservations suggested.

Owner's Map of Abiquiu
Stepping into this house, I felt a special sacred feeling. Walking into the kitchen took my breath away. The walls were old and thick. The herringbone latillas were on the ceiling. It had an old wood cook stove that smoked, lots of cracks, poor windows, but this incredible peacefulness. The bathroom was in bad shape, the plaster was cracked, the roof leaked the toilet was broken and the tub was made of steel. It had been halfway remodeled poorly. It needed a lot of work, but I could see the potential. I told the owner if he ever wanted to sell it, I would like to have first chance to buy it.
The owner's brother had sold it to him after living in it for awhile. The story goes that his brother won it in a card game in 1983 for $4500 and an old black Cadillac. Many people from Abiquiu have lived in it. Georgia O'Keeffe lived right across the street.
Four years after seeing it for the first time, the owner sold it to me and I began restoring it to its natural beauty. That loving process took seven years. Now it is a very special house for guests to enjoy. I particulary wanted to keep it with an old fashioned feeling. The furnishings are antique, the house is cozy and the dark brown mud straw plastered walls give it it's name, La Casita de Chocolate en Abiquiu.
