Welcome to “Ms. Etta’s” House! Etta Wadley Watson was born in Cedar Key in 1908 and modeled with her own life the warmth, charm, and hospitality of her home. She loved to entertain friends, family and visitors and always wanted others to enjoy wonderful pictures of loved ones, view her beautiful yard, eat wonderful food, and to relax... and then relax some more. Upon her death her family decided to open her family home to those who are looking for a time of rest and relaxation and an opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty, the birds, the warm breezes, and the unique culture of the island. If you have never been to Cedar Key, you are in for a real treat.
“Ms. Etta’s” house is set one block off of Goose Cove on the Gulf of Mexico. After a fire in 1991, the house was rebuilt and is both comfortable and spacious, offering the peace and serenity of Cedar Key living to families and groups of friends, large or small.
Capable of sleeping up to 15 people, this two-story home includes a private second-story apartment with private access featuring a living area, full kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, and two bedrooms - just perfect for those who want their own privacy while still participating with the rest of friends and family on the main floor. What a beautiful home. Perfect location to enjoy all Cedar Key has to offer. Lots of room for family to relax and visit together. House is immaculate and well stocked with anything we needed. Our niece with a young child truly enjoyed the front porch swing where she could swing the baby to sleep in the evenings. Even though our family owns a (smaller) home on the north end of the island, our "clan" wants to stay at Ms. Etta's House next time we all gather. Thank you for sharing your Mom's wonderful home with us. There is a sweet spirit in this house.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We hosted our family at Miss Etta's during our recent wedding in Cedar Key and they had a fabulous time. They enjoyed the privacy of the rooms (almost all with ensuite bathrooms) and the large kitchen and sitting areas where they could all gather. We held our post-wedding brunch at Miss Etta's and it was great to have a nice big kitchen for cooking a good southern breakfast and plenty of places for everyone to sit. The house was clean and well-appointed, and my family greatly enjoyed the photographs of Miss Etta and her family. The owners worked with me to review the house and details long before the wedding, and were very warm and supportive of our pending nuptuals!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had an adult sibling reunion at Miss Etta's and it perfectly met our needs and expectations. It was spacious, comfortable, included everything we could possibly need. The decor and setting was wonderful and we so appreciated all of the family pictures, books and the piano! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Miss Etta's the week before Christmas. Our family of 9 wanted to gather together and visit parents who live close by, and Miss Etta's house was perfect for us. It is very roomy and comfortable. The kitchen is great and 3 people can easily work there without getting in each other's way. The location was just right for us - just a very short walk to a nice bench overlooking the gulf. We enjoyed kayaking, boating to the lighthouse, checking out the shops, eating Tony's clam chowder, attending Miss Etta's Methodist church on Sunday, and sitting on the lovely sunny porch! We also got to see the manatees migrating into Manatee Springs for the winter. We would highly recommend Miss Etta's. The owner called as soon as we arrived to make sure everything was ok. When we needed a grill, we called the owner and he arranged for it to be made ready for us that evening. A delightful place overall - exactly as advertised! I would recommend Miss Etta's to anyone!Recommended for: Sightseeing, people with disabilities, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I could DEFINITELY live at Ms. Etta's! It is very much like returning to an era that has long passed us by. Totally relaxing, comfortable seating in each room, well maintained with numerous creature comforts. Nothing has passed the attention of the owners. We were there on the hills of Debby and even the yard was being cleaned as though nothing had occurred! Would I go back? IN A NEW YORK MINUTE! Recommend for any age. Having just spent Spring Break in Miss Etta's House, I can tell you right now the one and only problem with staying there. You go to Cedar Key for the natural beauty: outdoor activities, fishing, bird-watching, kayaking, wonderful walks by the water, meeting friendly people at great local restaurants. If you stay here, it's such a lovely, comfortable, well furnished home that you tend to want to sit on the big porch with its glass and screen windows, rock in the front yard swing, cook something for yourself in the gourmet kitchen, and enjoy your own beverage from the deck looking out at the water or, in my case, up at the rising full moon amidst the showy stars in the dark night sky. Each room is a showpiece, and you really are staying in a lovingly decorated and maintained family home. But beds are firm and comfy, bathrooms are both modern and lovely, and it's clear from reading the guest book on site that many folks have used this large home as a destination for reunions and large family gatherings. I will be putting a review with photos on Trip Advisor soon if you'd like a guests' view of this truly elegant home. It's a destination in itself,Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

From the moment we walked into this lovely home in the downtown area of Cedar Key, the warmth of family and friends embraced us. We had a large party of our three grown daughters, one son-in-law, my sister, her husband and our six grandchildren. The home is very well kept and large enough that everyone could have their own space. It has a very large kitchen just perfect for preparing meals for large crowds. It is within walking distance of the waterfront and all the little shops, restaurants and night clubs. Being there reminded me of going to my Mother's house for family gatherings. We will definatly go back.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children.

My family of 14 decided to have Christmas in January at Ms. Etta's house. We were stunned by the accomodations. 5 bedrooms...all designed as if to fit the people who stayed in them...my 84 yr old mother had a bathroom accessible to her and the kids had bunkbeds! The kitchen was not missing a thing! We had a sit down dinner for everyone and there was no shortage of serving dishes, plates, silverware or beautiful stemware! We are already planning our next trip to Cedar Key where the sunsets are spectacular and the weather a balmy 71 in January!!!! Amazing House, Amazing place! Thank you Jim!!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children, girls getaway.

About: My sister and I own Ms. Etta's House in Cedar Key. Our mother loved to entertain and she was so charming, beautiful, and gracious that we decided to share our home with others in her name. We have a spacious home so we attract wonderful family groups who are celebrating birthdays, graduating from the University of Florida, quilting, reunions, or just getting away with friends for fellowship and relaxation. We get such wonderful feedback and returning guests ... how totally perfect. Come see us and we think you will want to return again and again.
Why Cedar Key:
Ms. Etta's House has been our family's favorite vacation spot for many years. When we think of relaxing, napping, fishing, boating, watching the birds, or just taking a long walk, we think of Cedar Key. We decided that Ms. Etta's House would be in our family's experience for generations to come. We maintain our home just like our beloved mother was still living there ... we love to remember the wonderful Cedar Key experiences with her.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Ms. Etta's House is spacious, comfortable and perfect for families or great friends. We enjoy the opportunity to share the main floor of the house with family and friends and retreat upstairs to the comfortable and private apartment. We love to get around the piano in the large living room and sing songs that warm our hearts. We love to watch the sea birds from the porch off the apartment or just enjoy the privacy of reading a good book and feel the breeze ... a taste of Old Florida at its best. The front porch and the swing are a favorite spot for morning coffee or visiting with family and friends. Our grandchildren love to lick the bowl as they watch their grandmother prepare great pies, cakes or pudding treats. The Gulf shore is just down the street complete with the most remarkable sunsets you can imagine ... perfect for photographers who like to capture unbelievable beauty. The house features ample parking for multiple cars and boats with a spacious lawn for children to run and play. There is just no place like Cedar Key if you really want to get away and relax.
