Welcome to “Miss Etta’s” House! Etta Wadley Watson was born in Cedar Key in 1908 and modeled with her own life the warmth, charm, and hospitality of her home. She loved to entertain friends, family and visitors and always wanted others to enjoy wonderful pictures of loved ones, view her beautiful yard, eat wonderful food, and to relax... and then relax some more. Upon her death her family decided to open her family home to those who are looking for a time of rest and relaxation and an opportunity to enjoy the scenic beauty, the birds, the warm breezes, and the unique culture of the island. If you have never been to Cedar Key, you are in for a real treat.

“Miss Etta’s” house is set one block off of Goose Cove on the Gulf of Mexico. After a fire in 1991, the house was rebuilt and is both comfortable and spacious, offering the peace and serenity of Cedar Key living to families and groups of friends, large or small.

Capable of sleeping up to 15 people, this two-story home includes a private second-story apartment with private access featuring a living area, full kitchen, laundry room, bathroom, and two bedrooms - just perfect for those who want their own privacy while still participating with the rest of friends and family on the main floor. The main floor has a large living room, three bedrooms and 2 ½ baths, a large dining room, and a spacious, fully equipped kitchen. Year Purchased: 2007

Why the Owner Chose Cedar Key

Miss Etta's House has been our family's favorite vacation spot for many years. When we think of relaxing, napping, fishing, boating, watching the birds, or just taking a long walk, we think of Cedar Key. We decided that Miss Etta's House would be in our family's experience for generations to come. We maintain our home just like our beloved mother was still living there ... we love to remember the wonderful Cedar Key experiences with her.

The Unique Benefits at this House

Miss Etta's House is spacious, comfortable and perfect for families or great friends. We enjoy the opportunity to share the main floor of the house with family and friends and retreat upstairs to the comfortable and private apartment. We love to get around the piano in the large living room and sing songs that warm our hearts. We love to watch the sea birds from the porch off the apartment or just enjoy the privacy of reading a good book and feel the breeze ... a taste of Old Florida at its best. The front porch and the swing are a favorite spot for morning coffee or visiting with family and friends. Our grandchildren love to lick the bowl as they watch their grandmother prepare great pies, cakes or pudding treats. The Gulf shore is just down the street complete with the most remarkable sunsets you can imagine ... perfect for photographers who like to capture unbelievable beauty. The house features ample parking for multiple cars and boats with a spacious lawn for children to run and play. There is just no place like Cedar Key if you really want to get away and relax.

    • We stayed at Miss Etta's in August of 2009. The trip was a surprise quilting retreat for my mother. We asked our quilting group to go and then gave her pictures of the house as well as a description of the weekend we planned for Mother's Day. We decided on August for our adventure. Six of us piled in cars and drove to Cedar Key. We were so excited, we could hardly stand it! My mom and I were a little nervous.....what if it didn't really look like the pictures? What if there wasn't enough room? Silly us! Miss Etta's is BEAUTIFUL. There is ample room and the pictures were spot-on. The house is welcoming and feels like home, even if you've never been there. Our host was fantastic, even calling to check on us and make sure we were alright. We rearranged the downstairs to suit our sewing needs and spent the weekend in our PJs drinking wine, sewing, and enjoying our special retreat. We loved it so much that the second night there, we planned our next retreat. We're not going to wait a year, either! We've already booked our stay for the spring of 2010. The house exceeded our expectations and provided the perfect place for us girls to get away from it all and enjoy our favorite hobby (as well as each other's company). Our host thoughtfully provided maps, menus and suggestions for our stay in Cedar Key. We couldn't have asked for better. Now if only spring would get here faster....... • Our group of 6 quilters went to Miss Etta's in August 2009. It was a wonderful place to stay and an easy walk to restaurants and shops. Miss Etta's house is beautiful! It is exactly as pictured on the internet! We were happy with everything from the beds to the kitchen sink! We're now planning our next retreat and it will be at Miss Etta's!

    • Miss Etta's House was the perfect spot for the annual gathering of eight women friends. We love to cook together - the large and fully equipped kitchen was a delight. With a comfy living room for watching favorite movies and plenty of beds so we didn't have to bunk together the weekend was a hit with everyone.

    • Dear Mr. Webb, I am enclosing a few pictures we took at Miss Etta's during Lucy's graduation "celebration". I am not sure if they adequately reflect the great time we had there. We are all in 100% agreement that Miss Etta's was the perfect place for her graduation party. As you can see from the pictures, we had several family members come from Griffin, GA and Fort Bragg, NC. It was nice to have such a comfortable place to offer them. Even thought it is a little out of the way from Gainesville, the benefits far outweigh the extra time to took to get there. I cannot imagine why one would stay in Gainesville, fight the traffic, wait for service in restaurants, deal with hotel crowds when in just 45 minutes you could be at Miss Etta's in Cedar Key. Thank you so much for helping to make this a most memorable occasion. We had a great time and that was due to the fact we were all able to stay under one roof in such a great place. I personally appreciate that you made the rental so simple and easy. I would heartily recommend Miss Etta's to anyone looking for the perfect place to share a good time with family and close friends. There is no downside to time spent in Cedar Key at Miss Etta's. Thank you again, Mr. Webb. I hope we can visit Miss Etta's again sometime! Sincerely, Mary Fort P.S. If you ever need a caterer in Cedar Key, our friend, Kenny McCain is in the "business" there. (The best mullet, cheese grits, hushpuppies, or barbecue you'll ever eat!)
