"Ski in - Ski Out" Log Home - Sleeps 22

Year Purchased: 2008

Why the Owner Chose Angel Fire

We chose Angle Fire to purchase a vacation ski home because of its family environment. The people are friendly, and it is the closest ski resort to Central Texas. We wanted a home large enough to accomodate our family and friends, normally around 20-25, and we wanted a ski-in, ski-out, and the Wright Family Lodge is all that and more.

The Unique Benefits at this Lodge

There are many benefits to the Wright Family Lodge. Members of the family who do not ski can watch the skiiers ski by from the deck of the house. If you get hungry while skiing, you can stop in for snacks and hot chocolate at the house and not have to spend a fortune on the slopes. In the summer months, you can walk down the slopes to the village for a good hike, or enjoy the wrap-a-round deck and swing. The weather is GREAT in the summer and there is plenty to do for all ages. If you have a large group like we do, there is ample "level" parking for everyone and you do not need a 4-wheel drive vehicle to get to the house.

Owner's Map of Angel Fire

The Wright family loves to ski and has been going on annual ski trips for many years. Prior to purchasing our home in Angel Fire, we have skied as a family and rented homes or condo's at Angel Fire, Taos Ski Valley, Red River, and in Colorado at Breckenridge, Dillion, Winter Park, and Copper Mountain. We are from Central Texas and try to come up several times a year during ski season and several times during the summer.

family reunion

We had a family reunion there in July and the place was amazing. We stay at a lot of vrbos and this one is at the top. Beautiful scenery, bears, elk, and deer were abundant. We mountain biked down the mountain every day and rode ski lift up. It was great. The house was clean, well equipped, great kitchen, and nice bathrooms. Never ran out of hot water. The worst I could say is they are in need of a new can opener! Hope to stay there again next summer. SPECTACULAR!

Owner response:THANK YOU for your nice review. We will take a new can opener up when we go next week. I am glad you have a good time and will look forward to your leasing the house again. Sincerely, Jim Wright,Owner

The Edge of Nature

Guest: Dick (Wichita Falls, Texas)
Date of Stay: 07/07/11 Review Submitted: 08/05/11

If you are afraid of or don't like wildlife feeding beside your house, then don't stay at the Wright Family Lodge. What a wonderful place and special time we had here up above the Angel Fire village overlooking the Moreno Valley and Mt. Wheeler to the north. It was a special place for our family including little grandkids to see Mule Deer, Elk, turkey, chip monks, woodpeckers and all kinds of birds all around the house. A hike down to Heading Home and the front Ski Base was only 30 minutes, but the quietness and isolation from other development was what made this place special. It was a wonderful respite from the hard Texas drought this year, the comfort of this place hidden up high in the Sangre de Cristos made some special memories for our family.

Owner response:Thanks for taking the time to write a review Dick. I appreciate th positive remarks and am glad your family had a good time. Jim Wright Owner

What a Great Location, loved the Ski In/Out!

Date of Stay: 01/14/11 Review Submitted: 01/22/11

We stayed at the Wright Family Lodge a couple weeks ago and had a wonderful time! The lodge is an excellent place for a family gathering or a large group of friends. We loved skiing right out onto the slopes in the morning, grab a quick lunch or snack anytime, and after a day of skiing it was great to be able to ski right up to the house…no walking to a parking lot or driving…you’re already home! The lodge is very warm, spacious, and comfortable: nice couches for watching a football game or movie, and big kitchen tables for gathering around a home cooked meal or playing games together. Showers were nice, hot and clean, and hard to get out of after a day of skiing! You don't need a large truck or SUV to reach the lodge, we had no problems with our small 4-door sedan. The Wright Family Lodge is a great value and a great place to spend a vacation. We can’t wait to plan a trip in the Summer to see it without snow!

Owner response:THANK YOU for the kind review. The house is great for families of all ages and in the summer the yard has plenty of room for kids to play. In the winter they can play in the snow without getting close to a busy street. The deck is great for non-skiiers to watch other family members ski and/or to have a hot cup of coffee. Wonderful home for large groups

Guest: Angie (Van, TX)
Date of Stay: 12/18/10 Review Submitted: 12/31/10

We saw this picture on VRBO last Christmas and instantly fell in love. After waiting almost a year for our trip, the Wright family lodge exceeded our expectations! Very few places are large enough to accomodate our entire family (20+), and this cabin has plenty of space to spread out and relax. It is perfectly located for skiing; even the drive to the cabin is beautiful! The non-skiers enjoyed playing in the snow around the cabin and taking pictures of the skiers from the porch. The owner was very easy to work with and the caretaker had everything ready for our arrival. It was truly one of the best trips we've ever taken. What initally was going to be a once in a lifetime vacation may turn into a family tradition!

Owner response:We are glad that you enjoyed your stay at our vacation home.Thank you for your nice comments and for taking the time to write them. Jim Wright Owner

Great house

Guest: kansas blondie (Kansas)
Date of Stay: 01/29/10 Review Submitted: 03/28/10

Great house for a group of 20 or so. Very short distance to walk to ski. Great for a large group that starts and stops skiing at all different times. The house was clean and prepared for us. Location is great. House is as beautiful as the picture shows. Warm floor heat and great smell from the fire place. The owner was very accomodating.

Owner response:This home is only 100' from the slopes and as the reviewer states, is GREAT for a large group. It has a deck all the way around the home and non-skiers can watch the skiers from the deck and skiers can stop in for a break or a hot cup of java. Good level parking and good road to the home and rarely do you need 4-wheel drive, except maybe directly after a 6" or more snow prior to the road being plowed.

What an honor it was to stay in your home over the 4th of July holiday season. 18 of us made it "ours" for 9 days and could not have been happier. The home is beautiful and the location is spectacular. From my 73 year old mother to my 10 year old niece and nephew, we had a wonderful time of fun and fellowship. Mule deer and elk were seen by all and even a porcupine. Thank you so much for sharing your home. We look forward to visiting again.

If the photos seem too good to be true, you're right. Real life is better! There is no way to depict the prime location the cabin has on the Headin' Home Ski run. Other than renting equipment and a trip to the grocery store, we spent all our time on the mountain or in the beautiful Wright Family Lodge. Four families of four had memories to last a life time. Rent this home and enjoy the envious looks from those skiing by.

January 14, 2009 We arrived for our annual ski trip. Angel Fire is our favorite ski location. We have seen your home on prior trips and was so glad we were able to rent it this year. It was wonderful. There were six families on our trip this year and the skiing was great. The scenery here was blessed. We saw a large group of mule deer and was able to take a picture of five of them. Once again, thank you for sharing your home with us, we hope to use it again next year. The Baty family, The Laminack family, The Powell family, the Ohalin family, and the Dorter family.
