And here are some of the comments direct from just a few of our guests!
'We stayed in the second floor apartment on two separate occasions for a total of seven days during our month-long stay in Spain. We are a family of five (kids aged 22, 21 and 20), and we were all comfortable there. Not only was the apartment spotless, but the kitchen was well-stocked with cookware. We were pleased with the large selection of restaurants in the area (we liked Soria right up the street). A bakery on the corner supplied us with fresh bread, and a supermarket just a few blocks down was perfect for the balance of our grocery needs. Another big plus was the proximity to the museums and to Retiro Park. We also walked to Sol on many occasions, however, the metro is conveniently located just two blocks away and is easily accessed for those of you who choose not to go on foot. Suzanne and Santiago were conscientious and helpful, returning emails promptly and answering all of our concerns. By the end of our seven days here, we were sad to leave! We will definitely stay again if we ever return to Madrid!' (USA)

This is a comfortable, basic apartment in an excellent location for seeing the main sights of Madrid. The owners were extremely helpful and quick about responding to any of our requests. The Sofia Reine Gallery was five minutes away and the Prada, an easy fifteen minute walk. This felt like a true "Spanish" neighbourhood, with grocery stores, bakeries and restaurants around the corner. It is also a five minute walk to the Atocha train station. We were satisfied with our stay at this apartment and felt that it was good value.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers.

We (three adults) stayed in Suzanne and Santiago's second floor apartment for three nights in mid September. It was a great choice - and we'd happily stay there again. Communication with our hosts via email and telephone was straightforward and informative and their assistant who let us in to the apartment on the morning we arrived (befuddled from the long international flight) was welcoming and helpful. It is an easy walk from here to the main museums - and not much further from there to continue into the heart of central 'old' Madrid. Or you can easily hop a metro or bus to get around. Bus maps are on nearly every bus stop shelter. There's a good choice of neighbourhood shops, cafes, restaurants, bars, bakeries etc & it was fun to be part of the early evening post-siesta (or any time of the day) street scene with a drink and plate of snacks, watching the world go by. The apartment is just as shown in the photos - clean and comfortable with everything you need to make yourself at home. And free wifi too. We printed the google map location of the exact address to take with us - and that did help in quickly locating the Pasaje Anchora when we first arrived. We chose this location as it was close to the Atocha station - and it proved very convenient for arrivals and departures - the airport Express Bus stops here as well as it being the main station for medium and long distance destinations. Thoroughly recommended!Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

Our arrival was a comedy of errors. But I had an address and thought I would be good to go. WRONG. NOone in the area seemed to know or was willing to tell us WHERE 'Pasaje' was. They kept directing us to the 'Calle'. ERG. Once we finally located the building we were again confuddled as the apartment number we had was for the ENTIRE building, not a specific apartment. Once all of those frustrations were over we were very pleased with the accommodations and the owner's care in checking on us. We would definitely stay here again and I would recommend this apartment to friends. There was a grocery store right around the corner and the kitchen was amply supplied for cooking, if you so choose to do so. The owners supply plenty of tour books and maps and are more than willing to help with reservations or any suggestions for things to do in the area. My only suggestion is to make sure you have the printed directions WITH you, when you arrive. :) Also, for those that may have mobility issues, there are several flights of stairs and no lift.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, girls getaway.

The apartment we picked in Madrid was a wonderful choice. The apartment manager was very helpful, and showed us where we would be able to shop for groceries, eat a fantastic lunch, and how to get to the nearest metro station. The apartment is located in an area of the city that is quiet, but manages to retain the essence of Madrid, and is surprisingly close to the center of the city, as well as the Museo de la Reina Sofia. The apartment is a 5 minute walk from the metro (Palos de la Frontera), and is a 5 minute drive from the train station. The restaurants and cafes appear to be locally owned, complete with beer available at all hours, and a serious siesta in the afternoon. The apartment itself is small, cozy, and cute. All the necessities are included- a washing machine, dishwasher, and wi fi. However, there is no central air conditioner, so the apartment was a bit toasty during our stay. Fortunately, 104 degrees Fahrenheit is uncommon in Madrid, so this usually would not be an issue. There are two portable fans, and a portable air conditioner, which does provide welcome relief. Four people can sleep very comfortably in the apartment- the beds are wonderful, and the couches lead to instant sleepiness. There is no elevator, and no parking lot directly in front of the apartment- nearby non-residential parking will cost 15 euro a day, but it is very convenient when considering the alternative of searching and searching to no avail. Overall, I would highly recommend this apartment for anyone who wants to see how Mardrileños really live, and for groups that would like to explore the beautiful city of Madrid without dealing with the hassle of a car.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

First of all, both Suzanne and Santiago are very responsive via email. They even responded to my questions about how to best get a SIM card for my smart phone (there are several cell phone stores around the corner, you can visit one of them with your passport and get a prepaid SIM card). Originally I had planned to stay at a hotel in the middle of Madrid but when my sister decided to join me, I knew I needed to stay in a place that offered us separate bedrooms if I was going to get any sleep (she snores...loudly). I was very pleased to find this apartment with 2 bedrooms, and more modern than I remember most apartments in Spain being. The on-demand hot water heater was fantastic (a bit of a luxury for Europe) as we never ran out of hot water and having a full kitchen and sitting room was very nice for us to relax in our own space. It was convenient to the Metro and Atocha train station (which is nice to walk through, even if you're not taking a train) and so close to museums and Retiro that I wanted to go to each every day. Be sure to check free days/times at the museums and see art you've only seen in books. The young woman that met us and gave us our keys was very helpful and courteous. I would recommend this location to anyone spending more than two days in Madrid. It is a very safe and convenient location. Photos accurately display the apartment and surrounding area. The apartment is smaller than most 2 bedroom apartments in the US, but is in no way small or cramped. Plenty of room for 2 adults and up to 3 children.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

Convenient to everything (2 or 3 metro stops from Plaza de Sol) but in a real Madrid neighborhood with good local restaurants. Apartment is nice enough and very quiet at night (no street traffic or nearby bars, etc). A few blocks to metro station, all feels very safe. Hosts are very responsive to any issues. In our opinion, much preferable to staying right in the center surrounded by tourists and places catering to tourists.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

Pros: Very nice apartment. Clean, comfortable, and enough space for two people. Perfect location, easy to find, and a nice walk to the main squares as well as the train station. Only Con: the air conditioning did not cool off the bedroom as well as we would have liked, but other than that the place was great.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

This apartment was recommended to me by my son and daughter-in-law who stayed for a week with their 4 children. I traveled with my sister and sister-in-law. Suzanne greeted us upon arrival. She helped us with our luggage. She gave us very practical information and answered all our questions. The apartment was clean and suited us well. The location is close to the museums and the train station and also a metro stop and supermarkets nearby. It is on a quiet street. I would definitely recommend this apartment and hope to stay there the next time I go to Madrid.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

About the owner: Both Santiago and I love to travel and explore new places. We know that finding the right location and space and the right owners are essential to a great experience. Not only do we enjoy helping our guests to gather information for their stay, i.e. sending monthly newsletters, but we like to think that we are your 'family ' while in town for whatever you might need to make your your stay a memorable one!!
Why the Owner Chose Madrid:
Santiago's parents bought their first Madrid apartment here 35 years ago. Santiago and I lived here with our two small children until 6 years ago. This is 'my' neighborhood, so much so, we bought the unit adjacent to my in laws when it went up for sale a few years back! Great location, 'real' neighborhood experience and in the center of Madrid on a tree lined, no thru street!
