Experience the elegant charm of the 1930's style Capes Family home nestled on seven acres located just minutes from downtown Courtenay. Make the Capes Escape—your escape, as you relax and enjoy the comforts of home or explore everything the Comox Valley has to offer.
A heritage tourism experience with modern comfort. This newly renovated heritage home has three sunlit bedrooms, one and a half bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and spacious living room, dining room and sunroom.
The 1700 sq. ft. Capes Escape, named after Katherine Capes (1913-2001), a founder and patron of the Courtenay and District Museum, makes a perfect stay for those who want a value-added rest amid tall firs, pines, cedars and Capes family gardens. How Was Capes Escape Created? First and foremost, there's Katherine Capes, a founding member of the Courtenay and District Historical Society--one of the first female archaeologists in Canada and an avid preservationist of both cultural and natural heritage.
In 1997, Katherine donated the Capes family home to the Courtenay and District Historical Society for the purpose of "preserving the historical value of the homestead for the community" and to "further the objects and purposes of the Courtenay and District Historical Society."
Your visit supports the Capes Escape and Courtenay Museum Programs. Fees for your stay at the Capes Escape go directly to improving this important site and to ongoing Courtenay and District Museum programs. We invite you to explore the history of the Comox Valley by participating in fossil field trips and programs the museum has to offer.

Why the Owner Chose Courtenay
Creating a vacation rental--the Capes Escape--was the best way to honour the donation of a home and seven acre property while welcoming our many visitors to the museum and the Comox Valley.
The Unique Benefits of this House
The Capes Escape was completely refurbished in 2009, preserving all original elements of the historic home while providing comfort with renovations and refurbishments including modern kitchen, bathrooms and appliances.
The Capes Escape has proved to be a popular gathering place and getaway for families and friends.
Occassional events such as receptions and writers' workshops make it even more exciting.

Amazing and Picturesque, Combined with Incredible Value

I almost hesitate writing a review because once the word gets out, it will likely be impossible to get a booking - this VRBO will be such a hot commodity!!!!!!!! You get an incredibly spacious main level with 3 large bedrooms upstairs. We had so much fun cooking with family in the great kitchen as they sat around the island/peninsula chatting with us. The 3 different living areas gave all 6 of us some "space". The washing and dryer were invaluable for our 10 day stay. Set on 4 acres, we felt so calm and relaxed, yet the Comox Valley Parkway allowed for a quick commute to anywhere we wanted to go. Loved the walking trails surrounding the property. The staff at the Courtenay Musuem office couldn't have been more helpful, just terrific to deal with. And I still can't believe the price. For what we got and what we paid - UNBELIEVABLE VALUE!!!!! We highly recommend this VRBO. Thank you Courtenay Museum. We'll be back!!!

I recently stayed at Capes Escape with a group of 6 and we had a fine time in this spacious and beautifully restored heritage home. The Museum staff were ready for us, the house was immaculate and fully equipped, and our four-night stay was both a great experience and a good value. The fact that the house is sited on several acres of forest, is another bonus - this is not your average rental home but a step back to the good life in an earlier era, but will all of the modern amenities. . Thank you again and we will be coming back soon.
Owner response:Thank so much, and we hope to see you soon:)

My daughter and family stayed at the Capes House for 5 days in February 2011 and had a great experience. The size and configuration of the house worked well for the 4 members of the family and everybody had their own bed. My husband and I even had a sleep over at the house on one of the nights. There were plenty of dishes for family meals and snacks. The sun room was lovely and toasty warm on a sunny Saturday. The stay so impressed my daughter that she and family are already booked to come back for Christmas 2011. Highly recommend this spot for a family stay in the Comox Valley

Our family had such an enjoyable stay at Capes Escapes. The house was newly renovated, yet still maintained it's charm. It's a large home, with plenty of room, lots of privacy, yet still close to town. We really appreciated the high speed internet, laundry, outdoor trails to walk through at night, and the super comfy beds were a big hit as well. We hope to be back soon. Thank-you!

Thanks for the wonderful stay we had in this luxurious period property. We loved the attention to detail and it's "home" feel. It actually is a lot like our own house in Holland. It's a real gem, placed in a wonderful tranquil garden and yet close to everything. What a treat.
