The Vermillion Farm is a 60 acre escape from the world. We purchased the property in 2008 and fully renovated the vintage farmhouse. We kept all of the great vintage details, but updated it with all of the luxuries that you'd want. We have a great dining area surrounded by windows looking into the woods and across the valley.
The living area has plenty of space to relax and you can enjoy the vintage console radio. The two bedrooms have great furnishings as well, and you'll love the views from every window. The views are rolling, beautiful and seem to go on forever without another house in sight. The lower level features a great TV area with a large flat screen HDTV. We have also added a second all tile bathroom with top of the line fixtures and glass walls.
Outside, there are groomed grass trails that lead you through the woods and native wildflower prairie. Without a doubt, it's peaceful here. We've seen an abundance of wildlife and have planted a native prairie. The land includes a 10 acre wetland with walking trail.
Drive into town in the evening for a dinner in one of the many great restaurants in Valparaiso. On Saturdays you may want to wander up to Chesterton for their outdoor Market.
Come out for a few days or a few weeks. We're sure you'll love it.

If you are considering any other vacation spot, LOOK NO FURTHER. We stayed here over Thanksgiving vacation and had such an amazing, peaceful time. The property is quiet, safe, beautiful, and HUGE. We enjoyed taking our puppy on lease-free walks around the trails and loved wandering the property. The owners were extremely kind and professional. The house had everything you could possibly need, and more! Don't hesitate to stay here. I'm sure we will be back again!Recommended for: People with disabilities, sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

We enjoyed very much having our daughters wedding reception at Vermillion Farm. The place worked great for us. The location was beautiful, affordable and Leslie worked hard to make sure our event was everything we hoped it would be. The house made a perfect perparation area as almost all of us were from out of state. Having the wedding party stay overnite made it especially nice. Thank you Leslie.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

If you want peace and serenity, but still want to be close to restaurants and other conveniences, this is the place. The property is endless & there are plenty of trails to explore. (It would be nice to have use of a golf cart for young children or those who aren't physically able to walk to trails). There is a charming bench swing out back that can fit 2 or three people. The house is a ranch style home with plenty of space for family & friends to share. You can sleep up to 8 people. It is super clean and the decor is very eclectic, ranging from vintage and handmade furniture to modern design. The main floor bathroom is spacious and clean with a vintage tile floor and subway tile. There is a tub/shower combo and everything was crisp and clean. The bathroom in the partially finished basement has a modern, spa-like feel and has a walk in shower with a glass enclosure allowing you to look outside the window and enjoy the view while you take a relaxing shower. There is also a seating area in the basement that has a comfortable leather sofa and chair/ottoman as well as a flat screen television & DVD player for enjoying a movie night or catching the news if you wish. (The only drawback in the basement were some black ants that bite & a spider or two.) Upstairs on the main level there is a gorgeous dining table with seating for 6 adults and also a childs table with a couple of chairs. The kitchen is amazing with plenty of cabinets and drawers with everything you could possibly need for cooking a great meal. Off the dining room is a small reading room with a sofa bench to curl up and read a great book. The living room is large and has plenty of windows to provide you with sunshine and panaramic views. The vintage radio is on one side of the living room with a modern leather chair/ottoman and a wooden rocker to sit and relax while you listen to music. The other side of the living room has two sofa benches and a retro chair as well as a handmade coffee table. Off the living room, there is a short hall to the bathroom and the master bedroom. The master bedroom is cozy and the platform bed is amazingly comfortable. There is also another bedroom off the far side of the living room that has two twin beds, great for kids. Explore the area and try dining at Industrial Revolution for great atmosphere & food. Tony's Pizza for great choices (even gluten free pizza) & delicious food when you don't feel like cooking. Overall a great location & enjoyable stay.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thanks for the great review. We will make sure to take care of the basement. We try to use all natural cleaning products when we can, and sometimes a few bugs sneek in.

My husband surprised me, and our little hound dogs, with a beautiful weekend getaway for my golden birthday. I had the most amazing time! The house and property were very beautiful. Our family had so much fun walking all of the trails and watching the sunset. Not to mention the owners were so friendly when they greeted us. I could not more highly recommend a stay at Vermillion Farm & Prairie. You will feel completely at home! We will definitely go back.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

This house was a perfect alternative to staying in a hotel. It was very clean and comfortable with all the charm of an old country farmhouse. Having the full kitchen and two bathrooms was convenient for our family of three. The grounds were beautiful - really enjoyed having coffee each morning overlooking the red barn and prairie. We want to repeat our visit again one day when we can stay more than a few days.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

What a GREAT place, it could not have been better. The entire family arrived for the week of graduation from Valpo University for my son. We had 7 adults stay at the place, including an 80 year old grandma! Everything worked well, the place was spotless, and the cooking was wonderful, we bar'b'qued often and entertained some of my sons friends at "The Farm". The roommates to my son loved the place so much they wanted to rent it for the upcoming school year!! Hard to impress 20 year old guys, but this place Did. Would HIGHLY recommend this unique place to stay, The trails were wonderful to use and we did everyday, COME AND ENJOY NATURE ! By the way, the interior is like it came out of an architectural digest, absolutely marveolous.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+.

We recently stayed here and loved it. The two bedroom was perfect with two adults and two teenagers. We enjoyed walking the trails, seeing deer and raccoons and the beautiful scenery surrounding the home. It is very peaceful but not far from downtown Valparaiso where there is a lot of shopping, music and dining!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, age 55+.

2 Babies + 3 Nights + 5 ladies = 1 lovely Memorial Day Week-end stay In Valparaiso! We couldn't have asked for anything more. The wonderful old/new farm house has a large kitchen, with all of the necessary dishes and tools to cook good meals. The dining area has a big, homey table and many windows looking over the lawn and woods. Nice, clean and comfortable beds. My sister-in-law enjoyed walking on the trails, every day. The owner was kind and helpful. I'd absolutely recommend it to my friends and return, myself, if we have the opportunity to be in Valparaiso again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

My daughter and I stayed here for 2 nights. We were so pleased with this place. It was clean as a whistle. The kitchen was so well equipped we both said it was better than home. There were lots of toys and puzzles to keep the kids busy. The beds were comfortable. Our host was very accommodating and gracious. She went out of her way to help us be comfortable. The house is surrounded by acres of grassland and woods with trails going through. It felt like we were way out in the country, but downtown Valpo was 5 minutes away. I would certainly recommend this place to anyone wanting to spend time in the area.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers, families with young children, girls getaway, age 55+.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2008
About the owner: My wife and I are both designers. I am an architect specializing in high-end residential projects and my wife is a fashion designer and singer/songwriter who spent years in New York City before settling into country life. We love to travel and are influenced by beauty both local and global. We loved creating this beautiful place and often stay here ourselves. Our objective was to make the place spare, peaceful, warm and inviting. It's great now, and we are continually adding amenities for future visits. If you like good design and the beauty of the outdoors, we think you'll love our place.
Why the Owner Chose Valparaiso:
Vermillion Farm is located near our house, and we purchased it to preserve the amazing landscape that is all around.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We have outfitted the house with all of the modern luxuries plus a great fun mix of vintage pieces. You'll feel a world away from it all. Hike on 60 acres of trails and native wood and prairie, soak in the tub, or tune in the vintage tube radio and kick back and relax. If you need to get out, we're just a short drive into Downtown Valparaiso with great restaurants, or a quick jaunt up to the dunes.
