Rancho Pura Vida is a 40 acre private estate property of rolling hills, pasture and manicured gardens and grounds. The villas have beautiful views of the Central Valley and the mountains. The cool climate at 5500 feet elevation makes this a paradise of eternal spring time. The village of Los Angeles is walking distance with grocery store, several restaurants, churches and parks.
There is a farmer's street market every Sunday in San Rafael. The bus passes right by the gate of Rancho Pura Vida. The Capital City of San Jose is 30 minutes away and offers world class entertainment, dining, shopping, museums and parks. From Ranch Pura Vida, one can take day trips to Poas and Arenal Volcanes, rain forest, white water rafting, zip-lining through the rainforest canopy, horseback riding and hiking. There is a fully equipped gym in San Rafael (5 minutes away).
Conveniently located just 30 minutes from the San Jose (SJO) airport in the rolling hills of historic Heredia, one feels totally separated from the hustle bustle of city life and Heredia, the second largest city in Costa Rica. Beautiful mountain vistas and big skies, coffee plantations and charming farms take turns in the ever changing scenery. Winding roads pass over cascading rivers and waterfalls as you travel in the region. Around every curve is a canvas worthy scene.
Rancho Pura Vida is an ideal base from which to explore Costa Rica's wonders. The new highway to the Pacific Coast will get you to the Pacific Beaches and Jaco in less than a hour and a half. Other nearby attractions include national reserves and parks, canopy tours, biking, nature treks, white-water rafting, the famous Cafe Britt Coffee Tour, the La Paz Waterfall Gardens, The World of Snakes reptile zoo, Tortuga Island tours, Zoo Ave exotic bird park, bungee jumping, fishing, numerous waterfalls and swimming holes, botanical gardens, and local art and furniture shops. Only 10 minutes away, the historic town of Heredia offers world class shopping, restaurants with International and traditional offerings, movie cinemas and a large central market. Heredia is home to the Las Flores mall, the largest in central America. Another very interesting day trip is to go to Sarchi. Sarchi is a furniture building artisan town of traditional Costa Rican style furniture and custom designer home furnishings. There are leather hand carved woods created by the local artisans.
Rancho Pura Vida is gated. The Henderson family, 30 year residents originally from the Florida Keys, reside in the main house, a 130 year old farm residence. Also in residence on the property are the two mares, Roxie and Princes Gabriella and Roxie's 3 year old gelding, Domingo. The villas were built in 2008. They have fully equipped kitchens, whirlpool baths with bidets and luxury touches such as frameless shower enclosures. The villas are wheelchair accessible and have spectacular views of the Central Valley
There are a total of six villas on the estate. Please contact me for more information and availability. This property would be ideal for a large family retreat, reunion or small group seminar or just you and your special companion.
The owners are in residence at all times and are available to help you make special arrangements and answer all your travel questions.

Why the Owner Chose Los Angeles de Heredia
The mountains of Costa Rica are one of the best kept secrets. Spring Time temperatures all year round, the location, being close to the Capital City of San Jose, makes it convenient to the international airport of Juan Santa Maria (You can be at SJO in 35 minutes), fine dining, world class entertainment and shopping, yet one can retreat back to the rural hideaway in 30 minutes and be in the country side overlooking the bustling city with it's twinkling lights at night.
San Jose is also well know for it's state-of-the-art medical facilities. Medical tourism is a booming industry with Board Certified Physisians. Many elective proceedures are performed here at a fraction of the cost in the USA. We can provide suttle service to and from the clinics and hospitals and Rncho Pura Vida is the ideal plane to recover from your medical or dental proceedure.

Owner's Map of Los Angeles de Heredia
Welcome to Costa Rica, the "Happiest Country on the Planet"!
My family discovered Costa Rica back in the 60's when, on a travel trailer trip, we drove from Marathon, Florida to San Jose Costa Rica in 1967. My parents retired to Costa Rica in 1986 and Costa Rica has been our family vacation place ever since. Many well traveled people say that Costa Rica is the most beautiful Country in the world, We certainly agree.
We just completed the Villas in 2008 with the idea to make them available for vacation rentals. The property is also home to our three horses, Domingo the colt, his mom Roxy and Princess Gabriella, and several adopted strays from the nearby Animal Refuge. We hope you will chosse to spend some time with us and if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me. Pura Vida, Ginger

Definitely I give Rancho Pura Vida 5 stars! My husband, I and our dog spent six months there in early 2011. It was great to walk the dog around the acreage, usually accompanied by one or two of the owner’s well behaved dogs. Our casita was comfortable and had all the amenities. We loved sitting out on our veranda and enjoying the great weather and watching the lights from San Jose. Very relaxing and I always felt safe, even when walking to the neighborhood store. The grounds are immaculate – three workers keep everything in shape and if I had a burned out light bulb or the internet failed it was addressed immediately. Marilyn (the owner) is an 89 year old bundle of energy and would stop by sometimes to chat and had great insight into what to do/where to go in Costa Rica. Rancho Pura Vida is refreshingly cool and is located near to many popular tourist destinations I highly recommend Rancho Pura Vida and I will come back for the weather, the friendly people, and the great location. We visited Pura Vida a few years ago. The grounds are beautiful beyond compare. Rich green coffee bean bushes line one of the roads. A stream winds through the lush green property and there are flowers galore! The views of San Jose are amazing. Nearby we toured a coffee plantation and did some shopping for exotic wood crafts. We took side trips to Paos Volcano, Selva Verda Lodge, and took an aerial tram though the Caribe Rain Forest canopy. The Hendersons are wonderful hosts, warm and friendly! We plan to return.

The villas are every comfortable, I loved the the views of the city lights below in the evening and the ever changing colors of the mountains across the valley. The Henderson family was very accomodating and helped me make arrangements for touring the various areas that I was interested in seeing. I rented a car and driving in CR is not as daughting as I was led to believe.

We all know that renting a place sight unseen requires a bit of an adventurous spirit. Rancho Pura Vida is described exactly as it is and the property around the villas is even more lovely than described. The villas are new, well appointed and extremely clean. Ginger was very helpful with the details of the rental. Marilyn, the matriarch of the family, is on sight, friendly, and interesting to talk to. This property is located in a quiet area but close to some of the Central Valley attractions: coffee plantations, Poas Volcano, and La Paz Waterfall Gardens, all worthwhile visits. Walking on the property and nearby is peaceful and interesting and there are numerous restaurants in the area. The Central Valley is often overlooked by tourists but shouldn't be. And Rancho Pura Vida is a great place to stay.
