A wonderful family reunion at the Franklin

Guest: Guest at The Franklin DC (Montreal, Quebec, Canada)
Date of Stay: 04/23/11 Review Submitted: 05/16/11

Our family reunion in DC was awesome and our stay at The Franklin helped make it so. The caretaker came out to greet us when we arrived which made us feel really welcome. The place was very spacious, quiet and comfortable and the air conditioner worked like a charm which was really welcome as we had an unexpected heat wave during our stay. It had all the amenities we were looking for and the kitchen was well stocked with the exception of a can opener which we bought and left behind for the next guest. The place could be so much more inviting with a fresh coat of paint and bit more attention to the details. The common areas were generally clean but could use a good spring cleaning to get the places that are often overlooked. We would have rated our overall experience excellent if it were not for one glitch.... we needed tags to park on the Franklin street a detail that sadly was omitted and which cost us a $100 parking infraction. Overall we would recommend The Franklin to all groups.

Owner response:Hello, I am glad you enjoyed your stay and hope you consider us again in the future. Thanks for your comments on the painting and cleaning. I will discuss them with maintenance crew. On the parking, I am sorry you recieved a ticket. Franklin Street does not require any special tags or permits. The only thing that I am aware of is street cleaning on certain days and hours that a person's car must be moved to the opposite side of the street. Otherwise during those times a ticket can be issued. So I will investigate this further. Thanks again.

Franklin DC during Spring Break

Guest: Jay (San Francisco)
Date of Stay: 03/24/11 Review Submitted: 04/05/11

We stayed at the Franklin DC for our spring break trip with 8 middle school students and 2 adults. The house was clean and it was really easy to get into. It was alot bigger than I expected from the pictures. The pictures make it look like a small condo but its a big house. Kitchen was super spacious. Bedrooms were nice. 1 bedroom had a hot tub and private bathroomand small pullout sofa. the second bedroom was huge as well with a sleeper futon. the beds were cal king size i think because they were super huge. Alot of closet space. Heaters worked great. There was a washer and dryer in the house that helped us to take clean clothes to our next destination. NY. Pros: Huge House, good kitchen, large bedrooms, good parking out front, close to capital (abt 5 min, you can see the capitol building head on if u stand at the corner), big fridge, dishwasher, safe block (driving through the house we passed a few sketchy areas but thats in any big city), there is a caretaker who lives in the basement unit that was super awesome (she is retired so lives in basement unit and is available whenever u need, she was super nice even when we got locked out like at 1am), Alot of sitting space, Internet, Big Tv's with cable television, Towels for 14 people. Extra linen in closet, Plates and cooking utensils for an army. Cons: The house staff I emailed with could be a little more communicative ( I was actually afraid the house might be a scam bc I never really talked to anyone on the phone). But it wasnt and was glad!, No dishwasher soap in house, pullout sofas were pretty uncomfortable (investing in new ones would be good), Metro stop wasnt close enough for us to walk to (actually pretty far so we just drove ten minutes out and parked our car at metro and rode the train into dc. best thing to do anyway. Overall stay was great, the only mishap is that the code at entry door would change randomly and sometimes we would get stuck outside. Owner would reset via web and would let us in. House was great, caretaker was great (and she lives in a whole separate unit, not in the house), and it was the best price of any house in the area we asked about. I give it a 90% rating, the ten percent is for the uncofortable pullout sofas. Our kids love it and when we were stuck in a hotel room in NY, we were wishing to be back at the franklin.
