COMMENTS FROM GUESTS:
"This is a first for us! Within 5 minutes - almost immediately, we felt at home here and settled in for a perfect 3-day getaway. There's a serenity to the space. Thank you for making it available to us! We hope to return."
"Thank you so very much for allowing us the use of your home. The website does not do this house justice. We were pleasantly surprised at how beautiful this place is. The unique design and setting were ideal for a relaxing getaway. Nothing compares to the view of the Olympics off of your fabulous deck. We enjoyed having the piano, conversation pit, study, well-stocked kitchen and all of the other items you have so graciously shared. We will look forward to returning one day."
"Thank you for sharing your extraordinary home with our family. Everything about your place seemed welcoming and peaceful. I sense it was built with a great deal of love and a huge amount of generosity! We have been staying on this island for 30 years, and this was by far our family's favorite. ... This was a special healing time for us."
OUR HOME
Our unique "Octagon" House with a large deck and sunken Fireplace and Conversation Pit is ideal for enjoying the beautiful Pacific Northwest. Set in the Northwest Forest, the house overlooks the south Puget Sound and Olympic Mountains to the west, with gorgeous sunsets and views of the activity on the Puget Sound.
Our home is located on Harstine Island, in the Hartstene Pointe community on the north end of the island. Harstine Island is a large, forested island near Shelton, Washington, accessible from Route 3 between Bremerton and Shelton. The island is very non-commercial, rural in nature, with abundant wildlife.
The Hartstene Pointe community is the largest on the island (about 400 homes), and offers a number of amenities available to all residents and guests. Harstene Pointe offers friendliness, security, and many amenities: beaches, picnic facilities, tennis courts, exercise area, heated spa and pool (summer only), trails, clubhouse with ping-pong, billiards, games, and a library. If you have a boat, there is a marina nearby and public launch facilities. Each home has its own secluded setting where you will feel very close to nature. Feel free to participate in the community and enjoy its amenities, or simply enjoy the solitude of our home and its setting. From the large covered deck you will see deer, raccoons, an occasional coyote, birds, and other wildlife up close, and the beautiful Olympic Mountains across the water.
Just inside is a large, open living and dining area with a conversation pit and massive stone gas fireplace: very cozy in the cooler weather. A grand piano is available, and the dining area can seat up to eight people. The Kitchen is fully stocked, not only with cookware and utensils, but also with a full range of staples that you are welcome to use. A gas stove, electric grill, microwave, toaster, and toaster oven provide a variety of cooking options.
Two bedrooms with individual baths are fully stocked with linens, pillows, and towels. The "King Room" has a king bed, and the "Queen Room" has - you guessed it - a Queen bed. The study looks out into the forest and over the water. It contains a desk with a wireless internet connection, Television, Audio/Video center with DVD, VCR, Radio, and Cassette, and a comfortable reading area. There is an inflatable mattress in the closet that can be used for sleeping a fifth person.
Our home is ideal as a base from which you can explore the Olympic Peninsula, the old logging town of Shelton, picturesque Hood Canal, Fort Townsend, Olympia, Bremerton, and Tacoma. Seattle is accessible by ferry. Many people enjoy collecting clams, oysters, crabs, salmon, and other sea creatures, while others like to explore the mountains, trails, and "rainforest" of the Olympic Peninsula. For the occasional nice meal out, we can recommend several excellent local restaurants.
Whether you are looking for a forest retreat, a base camp, or a variety of nearby activities, our home is an ideal choice.

We appreciat your sharing your beautiful home with us! We have enjoyed so much the fireplace, the beautiful views frim the deck, the sell stocked kitchen & wonderful piano!. My twin sister & I played duets from the classical book we had played from many years ago. We had planned day trips from here, but decided to stay here instead & enjoy all the beauty & comforts your place afforded us. We especially liked walking the trails & gathering the sand dollars on the beach. LOVED your selection of music -- especially classical & 50's music.
