Ashgrove Cottage is a 200 year old farmhouse which has been beautifully restored in recent years.
It has large mature lawns to the front and rear of the house and is situated at the end of a private tree lined avenue nearly one km long. The house is surrounded by lush green fields and rolling hills where beef cattle are reared on the farm. Its private setting is only a three minute drive from the M18 motorway that links the cities of Galway and Limerick. The bustling market town of Ennis with its narrow streets and large choice of shops, pubs and restaurants is only a short drive and taxis are on hand if one does not feel like driving.
Shannon International Airport is just 20 minutes . The house is centrally located for taking in the sights and scenery of Clare and the surrounding counties. From the west coast of Clare with its unspoilt beaches and countryside to the north of the county with its unique limestone landscape of the 'Burren National Park' and along the way taking in the famous 'Cliffs of Moher'and the magnificent drive along Galway Bay between the villages of Doolin and Ballyvaughan.
To the east of the county lies the river Shannon and its largest lake, Lough Derg where pleasure craft are a popular pastime. The lake is surrounded by small towns and villages with their inlets and harbours providing amenities for the mooring boats.
The house has three bedrooms with one queen size and two double beds, sleeping six. An extra person can be accommodated on the sofa. One bedroom is ensuite and the main bathroom has bath and shower. It is centrally heated and the open plan kitchen, dining , living area has a solid fuel stove for that added comfort and atmosphere. Wood is provided free of charge by the owners Seamus and Mary who live nearby in Ashgrove House. They are always available for help and advice and frequently share a glass of wine or similar with their guests.
As an added bonus, WiFi (wireless internet) is available in the cottage free of charge for our guests.

If you take all the reviews for this lovely farm and family you will only have a small, small sense of how wonderful a time is in store for you! Our party of two couples chose Ashgrove Cottage based on the reviews we read, and found Seamus and Mary to be the absolute salt of the earth. We're farm folks anyway, so we felt a special bond with this wonderful family and their Parish. One of our party was seeking info on her family who left Clare during the "Great Hunger". Thanks to introductions by Seamus and Mary, she found all that and much much more! It turned out that once you mentioned that you were staying with this family, you instantly became one of the "clan" and all doors were open to you! Seamus and Mary are known and well thought of for miles around. Their family helps maintain and landscape the nearby roundabout as well as the cemetery south of the farm---they have pride of place in the true Irish sense. The cottage itself is perfect. The reviews are spot-on, so we found the place to be a warm sanctuary after a day buzzing around the M-18 or the country slip roads. I would be remiss in not mentioning that Seamus and Mary made umpteen phone calls to the airport and helped us retrieve a wayward mobile phone! They were so kind and patient during the whole stressful process! No visit to this breathtakingl cottage will be complete unless you get a "sean nos" couple of songs from their beautiful daughter, Jane, who we feel has a wonderful musical career ahead of her! Gra agus cara to Seamus, Mary and family!!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

What can I say..............it will not be 5 years for our next visit Seamus and Mary. Fantastic cottage and countryside. You are two very special people, warm hearted, kind and extremely friendly. Loved the night we had over at your lovely home with your lovely family. Jane is so talented and special. Western Ireland is out of this world, Bunratty Castle is one of my favourite places, Cliff;s of Moher is a must see, breath taken. The countryside around this wonderful cottage is out of this world. We had a wonderful 3 days in Western Ireland. Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts for making it so so special. Will certainly be back. Take care and thank you again for everything.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

I don't know where to begin. We've used VRBO for years to rent many wonderful properties across Europe, but the week we spent at Ashgrove Cottage was truly off-the-charts delightful. We spent a week there in late June with our two older teenage children. Our goal was to explore western Ireland and meet some nice folks, and Seamus and Mary were instrumental in making our hopes come true. The location is perfect for seeing a wide variety of Irish countryside, shoreline, towns, and people. Here are just some of the things we visited that were all within an hour of Ashgrove Cottage; went to the Cliffs of Moher (OMG amazing!); spent a day in Galway (ate some phenomenal food, listened to great music, and shopped at some neat stores); went to Kilkee and drove some amazing shorelines on the Loophead Drive to the lighthouse on the Shannon Estuary (more wonderful food in Kilrush); explored all over the Burren, which you just have to see to believe (pictures don't do it justice); and went to Bunratty Castle and got some good Irish history in an amazing venue. Each evening we got back to the cottage and relaxed, enjoyed a nice meal in the cottage, and sipped a pint of Ireland's finest until the sun set at 1030PM. A good night's sleep, a hearty breakfast, and we were off exploring again the next morning. It was perfect! The cottage has all the amenities we needed in a very functional layout and was spotlessly clean. The master bed is at one end of the cottage with it's own bathroom so the grownups get their own space. The two other bedrooms have their own bath on the other end of the cottage, so the kids have their space too. One evening was chilly, so Mary set us up with a peat fire in the fireplace and we warmed right up. The wi-fi was really important to us because it allowed us to plan for each day's adventure according to the weather. It worked every day with great speed. Beyond the features of the property and the awesome location, one of our greatest experiences was just getting to know Seamus and Mary. They are the greatest ambassadors of Irish hospitality! They are were kind, helpful, down-to-earth, and full of practical information for people visiting the area. Although we'd never met them before, we feel like we've made friends for life. We'd absolutely recommend this place for anyone interested in visiting the Irish countryside and getting to know some wonderful Irish people. Just superb.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

My sister and I and our two cousins, all women of a certain age who share an Irish grandmother, spent a wonderful week in September at Ashgrove Cottage. I would choose it again in a heartbeat. Most important, Seamus Marlborough and his family are wonderful hosts. It's clear that he responds to the individual personalities of his guests. In our case, that meant that he led us to church services so we wouldn't get lost, lit a fire in the wood stove the first few nights until he was sure we knew how (and provided us with plenty of fuel), socialized with us a couple of evenings at his house and at ours, and provided excellent information about places to visits, pubs and restaurants, etc. His wife Mary and children are equally welcoming; Ellen helped set up our laptop and Jane gave us a wonderful short concert of Irish melodies with her beautiful lilting voice. An important part of the family atmosphere the farm provides is the animals: Podge and Patch the dogs (excellent but non-obtrusive moochers), Mikey the bull (a magnificent creature), the burro, and the herd of cows that dots the landscape. Other aspects made our stay here comfortable and happy. The location in Barefield provides easy access to the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Connemara, the Shannon area and the Dingle Peninsula. The house itself is beautifully built, modern yet warm and cozy. The upkeep is immaculate; the decor individual and tasteful. In sum, our stay at Ashcroft Cottage was unforgettable; when we left for the Dublin area, we found that we were rather homesick for it, our minds returning to our stay there. I am hoping to return someday.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Seamus & Mary, WOW!!! You both are incredible! A dynamic duo without question. Warm, loving and generous. Not even sure where to begin to thank you for a memorable and indescribable stay at the beautiful Ashgrove cottage. Seamus thank you for coming over each night to build a fire for us; it was a treat! And for your tips and suggestions for sightseeing. Mary, thank you for not only bringing us a home baked rhubarb pie, but for also inviting us into your beautiful home for a traditional Irish dinner with your warm and entertaining family. Did I say entertaining??? We so enjoyed the meal and Seamus’s Irish wit!! The most captivating of our vacation thru Ireland was to be blessed to hear your youngest daughter Jane sing for us. Yes, she outshines the finest abbey, castle or historic ruin, and even the spectacular sunset God presented one evening while we stood in the driveway next to your cattle pasture. I was moved to tears in the experience of Jane’s crystal clear, strong and angelic voice. It felt surreal – like I had been transported into heaven. Please extend my thanks to her again. Thank you both very much for extending your warm and generous hearts to us during our stay. I look forward to another visit at Ashgrove cottage someday! Blessings-Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

After staying in Dublin we traveled west to Ashgrove Cottage in Ennis. My family had a full country experience of cows grazing in the pasture and the donkey greeting us on our walks with Patch and Podge (the dogs). The cottage was well maintained, very clean and had everything we needed. Although this cozy cottage is located on a peaceful setting, there is easy access to the motorway (M18). The location was perfect for seeing the sights of Western Ireland and town of Ennis is filled with shops and pubs. We also made a day trip to County Kerry and the Dingle Peninsula. Seamus and Mary were very helpful with tips on sightseeing, restaurants and pubs. We had a lovely week at Ashgrove and everything was really nice, making our trip truly memorable. We will all miss the dogs as much as your lovely country. I would highly recommend staying at Ashgrove Cottage.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

Staying at Ashgrove Cottage during our recent Irish vacation was one of the best decisions we made! The central location near the M18 made the cottage ideally suited to our daily excursions around western Ireland, yet the cottage itself is set in beautiful, lush farmland. The cottage was very cozy and truly felt like a home-away-from-home, and its appearance and description was exactly what we were expecting from the description and photos. In nearby Ennis, we enjoyed listening to traditional music at Brogan's, and loved exploring the beautiful County Clare, including Lahinch, the Cliffs of Moher, the coastal road east of Doolin, and the Burren. Most of all, our hosts Seamus and Mary were extremely welcoming and hospitable, and were very helpful in providing sightseeing and dining recommendations. We truly enjoyed meeting them and staying on their lovely property!Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.
