Why the Owner Chose Wakefield

We live in the Chicagoland area and started skiing over 30 years ago. We started out by heading a few hours away to Cascade Mountain and then ventured up even further to Rib Mountain(now known as Granite Peak). We heard so much about the skiing in the UP that we decided to give it a try one weekend; after all it was only another few hours from Granite Peak. I still remember the 1st experience we had at Indianhead. There had just been a fresh snowfall and it was covered in beautiful new powder. We had never experienced anything like it and I remember falling into the fluffy powder instead of the hard ice that we had experienced at the other places. We found out that the UP gets over 300 inches of annual snowfall and with 3 other ski hills nearby, it seemed like the perfect place. After that we decided it was worth the drive and came up whenever we had a free weekend. After paying to stay in the area hotels, we decide to look at properties for sale so we could have our own place and also rent it out for additional income. We take great pride in our place and I think it shows when you see it for the first time. We use to have Indianhead rent our units but as time went on we felt that we would like have a little more control of our property. We use the chalet ourselves so we wanted to make sure that it stays nice for us as well as for our guests. Our two boys grew up skiing at Indianhead. We had them in the ski school for lessons and soon they were good enough to go down the big hills with us. They surpassed us within in few years and left us in the snow dust! They then moved on to snowboarding and that’s all they do now. We wanted to keep our house in a private setting so we purchased all the lots surrounding us so no one could ever build next to us. We think that our place is a winter wonderland!

The Unique Benefits at this Chalet

It's a Winter Wonderland! We own all the lots surrounding our property so you have lots of places to explore. We have wonderful memories when the ski hill would be open on Thanksgiving day. We would put our turkey in the oven and go out skiing. We also enjoy just walking around in the woods or taking the snowmobiles out for a spin in the area. We also try to go out on the toboggan run and have contests to see who can go the furthest. Sometimes we take a 30 minute drive to visit the casinos and try our luck. In the summer we have gone to Lake Superior and the Porkies for some great sight-seeing. There are beautiful waterfalls in the area as well. September is the perfect time to experience the UP's beautiful fall colors.

Wildernest 1 (upper unit)

Our group of ten skiers stayed in the upper unit for a long weekend of skiing at Indianhead, and the property worked beautifully for our needs. Comfortable space to stretch out in the open living area, a full kitchen with every tool we needed, and comfortable sleeping accommodations made our evenings indoors as relaxed as our days skiing were full. The toboggan run was a huge bonus for kiddos who didn't expend all their energy at the ski hill! Great owners to work with--we plan to be back.

Best Lodging at Indianhead

Guest: Repeat Customer (Sterling)
Date of Stay: 01/05/12 Review Submitted: 01/09/12

We have stayed at other chalets in the area including some on the hill and we like Wildernest the best. I think this was out 6th year in row staying there. The thing we like best is that it's BIG. Most of the other places have small kitchen/living room/dining room and everytone is on top of each other. The Wildernest has lots of room to spread out. It's always very clean and has plenty of parking. We'll be back next year!

Owner response:HI Tim, Thank you so much for your great review. We really appreciate it. Jennifer
