Wedding in Tahiti at the Fare Ylang Ylang
Wedding in Tahiti at the Fare Ylang Ylang

We enjoyed our stay at this beautiful home as it was authentic tahitian architecture. We celebrated our wedding and had our dream ceremony on the most popular white beach in Tahiti and my local friends and new friends from this property were warm and loving people. We enjoyed our time so much that my parents want to come back for their 50th anniversary! Thank you, this property helped in creating some of the most special moments of our lives.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your warm comments; we also enjoyed having you and your family and your kindness for inviting us at your wedding party; hope to have many more guests like you!!

This is my second time at fare Ylang Ylang, and, while the first time I was with my boyfriend on a romantic getaway, this time I have come by myself. I needed a break from the cold winter and he had to stay home and work. After looking at different options, I decided to come back here because it felt like I was going to go visit friends rather than going somewhere I did not know anybody. It turned out to be the perfect choice because I had all the privacy I needed but didn't have to be alone if I wanted company, since the owner and her daughter are very warm, inclusive and friendly. They made me feel right at home. The house is very spacious and well equipped, it has WIFI, a great kithen a lovely bathroom, and of course the lush tropical garden surrounding it with the intoxicating scents of the Ylang Ylang tree in the evenings. To be able to do yoga in the early morning on the deck and then, after a healthy breakfast with lots of fresh fruit, go for a long swim in the ocean and enjoy the beach, was just heaven. I did rent a car but it isn't absolutely necessary since there is a little shopping center not far from the house with a supermarket, a cafe' and stores. The hotel Meridien is also very close and it is a nice place to go have a drink or take in a show of Tahitian dancing. There are buses to go into the town of Papeete, but in reality once you are at fare Ylang Ylang, you wont really want to go out all that much. You will slow down your pace and enjoy "la douceur de vivre" (the sweetness of life), and get healthy toned and tanned. The owner also has a paddle board and a kayak that she let me use. I couldn't have asked for more. This is my second time, but I think there will be a third, this feels like home.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, families with young children, romantic getaway.

Like some of the other guests, painting an accurate picture of Fare Ylang Ylang with words is near impossible. When I first set foot on the grounds, I was overcome by a feeling that I had just found paradise. As someone who has traveled a great deal, I can honestly say this is the most beautiful, peaceful place I’ve encountered. The grounds are exquisitely maintained, but also bursting with life and tropical beauty. The two minute walk from your cottage to the beach is shaded by grand old trees - coconut, banana, papaya… and filled with the intoxicating aroma of Tahitian gardenias and the native ylang ylang. The beach is perfect for a swim at all times of day.. the water warm, the waves gentle.. Above all, what makes this place special is the friendly vibe. Tea and her daughter welcomed me with open arms and made me feel like part of their little community. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.

A beautiful traditional Tahitian house seconds away from a gorgeous beach. House is surrounded by a wonderful garden where you can pick papaya, coconuts and passion fruits. Owner was most gracious and helpful - took us to the market and even assisted us when we were in need of a doctor. Private, spacious and enjoyable. We look forward to coming back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, families with young children.

As a lifelong traveler, the hope of finding a truly unique destination becomes increasingly important. But, equally, if not more important, is finding that spot where you feel immediately familiar, relaxed and "at home". On a recent trip to Tahiti, I was fortunate enough to find both. In the district of Puunaia, on the West coast of Tahiti, is a delightful guest house called "Fare Ylang Ylang". Named after the fragrant tropical flower that blooms there, it fronts one of the most beautiful and uncrowded beaches on the island. Architecturally both intriguing and relaxing, it's a perfect spot to simply re-connect with one's self and practice the lost art of doing almost nothing. We practiced diligently during our 10 day stay - but still found time to explore the rest of the island and a few of it's fabled surf spots, hear some incredible local musicians, shop to our heart's content, and sample an incredible diversity of dining. The blend of Tahitian, French and Asian cuisine can be found in every price range from the finest restaurants to the nightly gathering of the "roulettes" (think: fine dining trucks) along the harbor side near downtown Papeete. The key to all this was our host, Tea. A lifelong resident, fluent in English, French and Tahitian, she seemed alway to appear when we needed a little help, directions on where to find something, a little bit of translation or some advice on local etiquette. It was, in no small measure, due to her graciousness that our stay there was so wonderful. I'm sure I'll be going back.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.

The Truth
The Truth

The truth is that mere words will never suffice to explain the beauty and serenity that I found during my stay at Fare Ylang Ylang. The incredible smells of the garden at night cannot be wafted on words. The sounds of the birds singing, the inviting lure of the warm, reef-protected ocean almost at out doorstep - none of these seem to fit into simple sentences, nor do I expect they ever will. Neither can words describe the slight sadness I felt upon leaving, not knowing why it had taken me so long in life to find such a place. I do know that I will return as soon as I can. That's one "truth" of which I can be sure. I hope you'll also have a chance to visit Fare Ylang Ylang and discover the happiness that I found there.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway.
Owner response: I feel very honored to read such touching thoughts about my guests appreciation of Fare Ylang Ylang; I do put my heart at making people feel happy while they,re staying at Fare Ylang Ylang, Thank you, Tea

Fare Ylang Ylang was all that we expected and then some. The beach is definitely the best on the island, although it can get a bit crowded on week ends. The water is clear and very safe, the sunsets over Moorea, the sister island, spectacular. The house itself is in a garden and at night the fragrance of the Ylang Ylang tree that gives it it's name, is absolutely inebriating. I was there with my boyfriend, so we had the whole place to ourselves, but it is very spacious and can easily accommodate a family or 2, even 3 couples, since it has a separate very comfortable sleeping loft with a private bath. The kitchen is large and well furnished as is the house itself, with great art and comfortable furniture. It has WIFI which for us was essential. The owner and her daughter are very helpful and friendly, and made us feel totally at home. I sincerely recommend this rental, if you are planing to visit Tahiti.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.
