Mount Hood cabin description
The Alderwood Cabin is a unique 1030 square foot Cabin in the foothills cascade mountain range at the base of Mt Hood. It was originally built in 1945 but has been extensively remodeled and updated. Solid Pine paneling on the walls and ceiling surround the living space in warmth and comfort. The two bedrooms both contain queen beds and closets. The second bedroom also has a writing desk. Windows in every direction give relaxing views of the surrounding forest. There is a high efficiency, easy-to-use cast-iron wood stove imported from Denmark. Firewood is provided. Electric heat is also available in every room. The full kitchen is ready to use and has an oven, dishwasher, coffeemaker, microwave, toaster, and blender. We have a small TV and DVD player, a game room, and an eclectic selection of books. A huge deck in the back is surrounded by forest and is a great place for a picnic. A 5 minute hike from the house leads to the Zig Zag river. High speed internet.

Nice quiet cabin. Convenient to grocery store and ski resort. The kids and our Bernese Mt. dog loved the cabin and the woods.

It is really wonderful experience, the host is very kind, and we the fire stove is so easy to stir up, it make the whole room so warm. We baked something to eat, it is relaxing and comfortable.

Great Getaway in the Woods!
Great Getaway in the Woods!
Rented this cabin for our 9 year anniversary, and wanted a place to decompress. At first I thought that since there was no wifi was a bad thing, since I was going to do some work at the cabin, and check emails. However, once in the cabin it was soon realized that not having wifi was great!!!! We were able to appreciate the stillness that the forest and the cabin had to offer. We were able to reconnect to ourselves and find stress just melting away. There are trails all around the cabin, most that lead to the river. They are all beautiful. Once getting to the river, it just nice to hang out and enjoy the scenery. We went up to Timberline Lodge which is just up the road. Great place to get lunch and some wine, and to enjoy the snow and views that the mountain has to offer. All in all, this was the most relaxing mini-vacation we have had in a very long time. The cabin was very clean, had a nice wood stove, and had a great view out of each window. Will definitely rent this one again. Oh yes, our dog loved the peace and quiet too.

Owner response: Thanks for the kind words Shiree. Hope you can come back soon!
We were looking for a last minute get-away over Easter weekend and came across the Alderwood online. We are glad we did. Upon arrival we were greeted by a neighbor that offered let us know to call her if there were any issues or if we needed anything. It was nice to have the secluded feel in the trees but also the comfort of neighbors close by. The weather was perfect and we enjoyed a nice stroll to the water behind the cabin in 70 degree weather. My kids then decided they wanted to go sledding, therefore literally within 15 minutes were were on Mt. Hood playing in the snow. It was perfect. We will be staying at Alderwood again and will recommend this to friends.

About the owner: My name is Martin. I was born in Oregon and I like all kinds of outdoor activities. I hike, bike, surf, run, rock climb, ski, fish, raft, and camp. I write and play music. Nothing is better than great friends, great beer, and great food. I live in Southeast Portland. Other than managing two cabins, I work as an electrical engineer at Intel designing circuits for the worlds most advanced computer chips.
Why the Owner Chose Mount Hood:
I bought my other cabin, the Bon Fir Cabin, in 2008 and I really enjoy reading the guestbook about all the fun adventures people have. I love hearing about how much people love staying there. So I looked around for 2 years and finally found a perfect second cabin to buy. I bought the Alderwood Cabin in 2012 because of the beautiful wood interior and the private forest views. I put my personal touch into repairing and fixing it up and I hope you enjoy it!
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
I love getting a warm fire going in the wood stove and sitting with friends and family watching the flames through the glass.
