  • Perfect Month

"If I could live anywhere on the beach this would be it. The unit is really roomy and set up for living and the view is absolutely incredible! You can take a nap on the couch and wake up in time to watch the sunset without even having to sit up! It stormed one night with lots of lightning and I could lie in bed and watch the whole show. We stayed for the entire month and really felt at home. The kitchen is very well equipped - even a crockpot. Wi-Fi is easy and fast and cable has all you need. Toucan's, Killer Seafood and Gulf Foods are within walking distance and Mexico Beach is a great central location for everything you might want to do. Panama City Beach is about 45 minutes away and offers Pier Park Mall with its shops, restaurants and movie theater if you need a little more action. We also went to Gulf World Marine Park there and enjoyed it. If you have time, you can rent bikes or kayaks on Cape San Blas (we used Happy Ours) and definitely eat at Indian Pass Raw Bar. Port St Joe has the marina if you like to fish and good food. We really enjoyed Sunset Coastal Grill and Joe Mama's Pizza is really good pizza and the salad is super. We made the trip to St. George Island twice and will go back again next year. The shelling is great there as well as on Crooked Island and the Mexico Beach Public Beach right across the street from the condo is hard to beat. Apalachicola is another one of our favorites. Up the Creek and Boss Oysters are both right on the water and the oysters are great if you like them. One of our favorite places there is the Tap Room next to the Owl Cafe. Great atmosphere and you can enjoy the local brews and have one of the best hamburgers ever! I cannot say enough good things about Mexico Beach or Beach Destiny - hope to spend lots of years coming back."

  • Winter in Mexico Beach

"I highly recommend staying at Sandpipers Rest! We are here for the winter (four months) and have been most comfortable. We have rented several condos over the years, and this is definitely one of the better ones. It is newer than a lot of the rentals in Mexico Beach. It is spacious and comfortably furnished. Even the mattress is comfortable! It is well decorated in a coastal (not tacky) theme, and well maintained. The exterior is well landscaped, and the back deck overlooks a beautiful courtyard. The pool looks inviting, even at night, when it is well lighted. When we come back to this area, this is definitely where we want to stay!"

  • Beautiful views

"My friends and I spent a week enjoying this lovely place. The beach house was comfortable and cozy, we didn't want for anything. We enjoyed the easy beach access, spent hours on the beach, shelling and playing in the water. Loved that it was not crowded very peaceful and relaxing. The views from the deck were awesome. Most relaxing vacation I've had in a Lon time."

Mexico Beach Travel Tips

Mexico Beach is a small coastal community located 20 miles east of Panama City Beach along the Florida Panhandle on the "Forgotten Coast." It's a serene destination on the shores of the Gulf of Mexico and offers the small-town atmosphere you're looking for in a relaxing tropical getaway. Mexico Beach is considered a "secret" vacation spot among families and some have been coming here for generations.

Nature's beauty is preserved and the beaches are full of life in Mexico Beach. Visitors can head out for some shopping or dining and hike through parks and conservancies during their stay. If you want to see the dolphins play at sunset, Mexico Beach is the place to do it. The most favorite pasttime among visitors and locals is swimming in the clear waters.

Mexico Beach Attractions

Beaches: Some of the best beaches in the country are found in Mexico Beach. The sand is made up of nearly 12 different materials and contains quartz crystals. There are no rivers that flow through Mexico Beach so the sand is pure and white, and since it's reflective it doesn't get hot during the summer. Visitors to Mexico Beach get to enjoy 5 miles of the coastline with plenty of public beach access. If you're lucky, you may even get to see a sea turtle. Five endangered species venture onto the shore in Mexico Beach to create nests for their eggs.

Diving: There's easy access to several dive sites off of the coast of Mexico Beach that are perfect for scuba diving, snorkeling and spearfishing. Visitors will enjoy the beauty of the natural and artificial reefs as well as the shipwreck sites. The Empire Mica is a wreck site that will give divers a world-class experience in 105 feet of water. There's also the lumber ship Vamar, which lies 27 feet below the surface near the Bell Shoal area. It's accessible by scuba divers and snorkelers, and is even visible from the surface.

Things to Do in Mexico Beach

Dining: You'll find everything you could want to eat in Mexico Beach. From mom-and-pop eateries to restaurants featuring live entertainment, everyone in the family will find a new favorite food. You can grab fresh seafood from the Fish House Restaurant, Gourmet by the Bay, Killer Seafood or Regan's Pub and Oyster Bar. Or you can choose to relax at Caribbean Coffee, Graba Java Internet Cafe or Sharon's Cafe.

Shopping: If you're looking for a place to shop 'til you drop, head to stores along Highway 98. There's a wide variety of offerings such as gifts and souvenirs as well as other little stores tucked away in motels and restaurants. You can find gifts at Beachwalk Beachwear and Giftware, Frost Pottery Garden and Gift and The Grove.

Fishing: There are more than 125 artificial reefs in the Gulf of Mexico, which make for one amazing fishing trip. Whether you want to hit the water along the coast or head out for some deep sea fishing, you're guaranteed to have a good time in Mexico Beach. There are three bays for launching and many of the charter boats in this coastal town offer inshore or offshore trips that include your gear and license. Some of the species found at Mexico Beach include king and Spanish mackerel, grouper, red and black snapper, mahi mahi, pompani, speckled trout and redfish.
