A lovely weekend at the Sandbag
"The Sandbag is a beautiful beach house, lovingly maintained in a quiet and picturesque resort community. It was a great fit for our family of six adults and three small children. Between the indoor and outdoor living spaces we had plenty of room for togetherness or privacy. The fact that every bedroom has its own bathroom was a big plus for us! We prepared our own meals in the amply supplied, spacious kitchen and on the gas grill located on the upper deck. (We took note of other reviews and purchased groceries on the way in, because there are no supermarkets nearby.) Though our stay was brief and the weather temperamental, we enjoyed the proximity and intimacy of the neighborhood beach, and also the club house pool just a short drive west. As others have said, there are games, movies, books, beach toys and other thoughtful amenities to make guests feel at home. The generous owners have obviously put heart and soul into making The Sandbag a cozy and inviting retreat, and they have succeeded. We all wish we could have stayed longer and hope to come back again someday!"

"We had such a wonderful stay here! Kitchen stocked, comfortable beds, linens, towels, etc. all stocked. We even had a tropical storm (which kept us inside) roll through and we were perfectly content. Property management was fantastic...having a pool w/a restaurant, etc. was wonderful. We have stayed in a lot of rentals, in various places, and this one of the nicest by far. We drove from CO with 3 kids and it was really nice to just come in and be on vacation."

Super kid and pet-friendly! Very well equipped beach house, steps to the ocean.
"I can't say enough good things about our experience at Las Brisas. But I'll try. :) First of all, Maggie was super helpful and responsive. This was our first trip to the beach with our children, ages 2 & 4. We initially booked our stay at Port Aransas. Maggie called me a few days before our scheduled trip to let me know that there was a Red Tide in Port Aransas which can cause respiratory distress. This is a very infrequent and naturally occurring algae overgrowth, but happened to be occurring right before our trip. She offered to switch us to her Galveston house. This alone was above and beyond what a lot of beach home owners would do. We accepted her offer and had a wonderful stay in Galveston. This house was perfect for us. Our kids are 2 & 4 but this house would totally work for younger kids too. One room had 2 sets of bunk beds and a tv with a dvd player as well as several children's movies. There is a closet fully stocked with games for all ages, including foam blocks and plastic bowling pins. There is a basket of baby toys, which we didn't use but I'm sure we would have if our kids were younger. There is a baby gate for anyone worried about tiny bodies navigating the stairs. This house is very nicely laid out. Each bedroom has a bathroom. We easily and comfortably slept 5 adults, 2 children and 2 huge dogs one night and 3 adults, 2 kids and 2 dogs the other two nights. The description of the house says "less than 5 minutes from the front door to the sand" but it was actually much less than that. The beach is literally steps away. It's basically right across the street. We considered buying a wagon before our trip to help transport our stuff and kids to the beach, but it turns out it was so close that we didn't really need it. We brought beach toys but the house also has a storage closet filled with sand toys, beach chairs, beach balls, boogie boards, floats and basically anything you would want for a day at the beach. The beach itself was very clean and not crowded. The kitchen had everything we could possibly need to cook with. There were plenty of beach towels and bath towels. Plenty of toilet paper and paper towels. This house is just everything we hoped it would be. I would seriously recommend staying here if you are looking for something kid friendly. Everything was so comfortable and sturdy. No tiny glass nick-nacks to stress over children breaking, yet very pretty and nicely decorated. We will definitely be back next year!"

"I was a little apprehensive about vacationing in Galveston because of word of mouth and other popular beaches a few hours away. However, I booked this Bayfront Home during August, and I was extremely pleased with the house and the island.
In addition, I wasn't sure this particular property would be nice because there weren't many recent reviews, but the house turned out to be wonderful! Both the property manager and the owner were very nice and informative.
The house was clean and had a few spots that were being treated/worked on (nothing bad). Our refundable deposit was also given back to us very promptly!
Our group was 8 adults and 4 kids and we were very comfortable. The kids loved the pool table, ping pong table, foosball table, and fishing the stock pond directly out the back door! The house had plenty of pots, pans, utensils, and other such things. The location is on the west end of Galveston (about 20 minutes), but very much worth the drive to get to a nice quiet, well kept area.
You could walk to the beach (about 1 mile) without crossing the main road for those wanting to get exercise. This was accessible through a cart tunnel near the property. The club house was very close, as well as the lazy river. We went to both the club house pool and the lazy river area on separate days for a few hours, but spent most of our time on the beach.
All in all, I would highly recommend the Bayfront Escape to anyone looking for a great house in a great location! I am already looking forward to booking our trip at this same property next year."
