About Michael Luke or Elizabeth Gensler

Originally from the San Diego area of Southern California, both Michael and Elizabeth have always enjoyed the lifestyle and abundance of outdoor activities that ocean living provides. Leaving behind high powered careers, Southern California traffic, and a fast-paced life, we decided to trade it all in to experience the Pura Vida vibe that permeates this wonderful country. We fell in love with the people, the culture and the beauty of living in the Southern Zone of Costa Rica and have not looked back.

Michael Luke or Elizabeth Gensler purchased this villa in 2004

Why Michael Luke or Elizabeth Gensler chose Pavones

The area of Pavones and the Osa peninsula have been relatively untouched by development. It is a place to experience world class surfing, fishing, secluded beaches, majestic waterfalls and exotic wildlife. The modern home has all the creature comforts while being surrounded by lush jungle and some of the most spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean this area has to offer. The rugged beauty is guaranteed to take your breath away.

What makes this villa unique

Sitting a few hundred feet above sea level where the ocean breezes keep the air fresh, the house is easily accessible from the main road in the safe and secure neighborhood of Cuervito de Pavones. The property is a working farm with a wide variety of fruit trees and tropical gardens, greenhouse, herb garden, coffee and cacao, and farm fresh eggs from the chicken coop. Enjoy it all during your stay at Paraiso de Miguel.

Best vacation

  • 5 of 5

I wish I had more than 5 stars to rate my stay and vacation at Paraiso de Miguel! To say it was amazing does not even begin to explain just how incredibly wonderful it was! The location is beautiful with a view clear out to the ocean. The grounds are well kept and the fruit and other treats growing are exceptional. The property was very clean and had everything needed and then some to feel comfortable and "at home", even while away on vacation. Although the location is surrounded by dirt roads, the quads and 4 wheel drive make getting around even more fun and adventurous! Furthermore, the outdoor kitchen and brick pizza oven show their attention to detail and great cooking options. Also, there is a small creek and waterfall that can even be walked to on the property. For a little "me time" and to wind down, there are 5 hammocks located around the property to enjoy.

The activities available to enjoy while staying at Paraiso de Miguel are very well organized and ease of payment makes everything so accommodating. I had only paddle boarded one other time and this was like nothing ever experienced. The water was calm, blue and warm with beautiful ocean ahead and a beach view from the ocean that was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. The next day, we went horseback riding that took us from the property to the beach and back through the jungle on a very steep but doable and scenic trail. There was a day that we chose to just relax and get pampered. Massages were arranged on the property and Rosie, who performs the services, is great at what she does, as well as being professional and just sweet as can be. Another day we went on a guided waterfall hike. The surrounding areas are so lush with trees and the guides were knowledgeable and accommodating. We first hiked to the top of the water fall and were able to look down at this amazing wonder, then back around to the bottom of the waterfall allowing us to swim in the pool that collected below. One of our final excursions was zip lining in Golfito. I had never done this before and it was so exhilarating!! Our guides were so kind and informative, putting all my fears at ease. There were 10 runs with the longest being 500 yards and the tallest being 150 yards up. The zip lines were in the rainforest and the views truly took my breath away.

I would recommend this vacation for anyone looking for adventure and a getaway not experienced in any other place I have ever visited!!

Owner's Response: Wow, Heather, what a great review. Thanks so much and what made it so fun was your enthusiasm and willingness to try anything and everything. For a first-timer in beautiful Costa Rica you got to experience a great deal of what is offered down here and you did it laughing and squealing all the way! I'll never forget hearing your echoing sqeals as you zip-lined through the top of the jungle. Once again, a very happy birthday to you and I'm so glad we were able to gather our close friends (and a few of the local monkeys!) and give you a proper Tico style birthday party during your stay. We are looking forward to your return visit and showing you and your husband even more of what this country has to offer. I know you'll never be the same after having experienced the Pura Vida that permeates this amazing place.

Paradise!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed here for a week in February 2018. It was our first trip to Costa Rica and we were not disappointed! We give this place 5 stars as it exceeded our expectations. Mike and Lizzy were wonderful hosts! Their love for their property, community and each other shines through. The views from the property are breathtaking! During our stay I saw 4 different types of monkeys, a sloth, many different beautiful birds, including Toucans and Parrots, an eel, many tropical fish and dolphins! We went on an ATV ride with Michael where I got to go tide pooling and swim in a river with small waterfalls in it. Boat day was a blast! We went to a wildlife refuge and saw many animals and birds. A highlight was seeing dolphins! Every morning , Mike and Lizzy provided us with coffee, fresh fruit from their property, banana bread and muffins. They were all delicious! They made a wonderful seafood dinner for us in their outdoor kitchen. Pizza night was memorable! I also booked a Reiki treatment with Lizzie which was great. I will always remember the beautiful sunsets complete with the sounds of the jungle. Pura Vida! I will also miss their friendly dog Paulie

Awesome view and Comfortable in every way

  • 5 of 5

The drive to the Pavones area and the lovely Paraiso de Miguel is not what it once was according to the owners who shared some accounts from days gone by which included fords and ferries and very rough roads. Now all you need is a vehicle with good clearance and to sit back and enjoy good roads and the lovely rural Costa Rican countryside. Our hosts were super hospitable, starting each day with delicious fruit from their homestead and specially made gluten free treats for DJ...very thoughtful. Also helping to get us up to speed was the local coffee...the best I have had. The house is roomy and comfortable with all the comforts of home and plenty of solar heated hot water. The duplex is surrounded by gardens, fruit trees, and sounds of the jungle. The photo on this page doesn't do justice to the view of Golfo Dulce down below. It is a daily treat from the comfortable patio.

We were blessed with help from our hosts in setting up a boat trip and an island meal, along with a horseback ride on the beach on the gentlest animals. These were made possible by Michael's local connections and his Spanish. It never would've happened without him. Elizabeth's massage skills are excellent and helped me to relax from active days which included walks on the beach and swimming in the Gulf and Rio Claro nearby. The whole experience was the kind I enjoy most where one gets to appreciate the local culture while falling back on comforts of home when returning from an active day. Local restaurants in Pavon were excellent and cheap. Be sure to try patacones and the fish. We would return in a heartbeat and are forever grateful for the kindness and hospitality of Elizabeth & Michael.

All I expected and so much more! Highly recommend this vacation home!

  • 5 of 5

Michael and Elizabeth are wonderful and helpful hosts even before you arrive. Any questions I had were answered promptly and with even more information than I thought to ask. The home and the grounds are so relaxing and comfortable it was hard to tear myself away to see more of the country. Michael and Elizabeth had many great suggestions for places to tour and were very helpful with any directions we needed. Being able to access organic locally grown produce on their grounds or from their neighbors was a big bonus. I loved learning more about permaculture from what they are doing on their property. I hope to return again some day. Thanks so much Michael and Elizabeth!
