Fantastic place to stay
The pictures do not do this property justice! What a fantastic place to stay. Our family of four, two adults and two teenagers, enjoyed it immensely. Catina is a wonderful, thoughtful hostess. When She realized we were going to be arriving later in the day, she offered to buy basic groceries for us as we might not make the store in time. She recommended a nearby cooking school run by a friend, and we decided to give it a try. What a fabulous experience for us as a family. This was one of the highlights of our stay in Italy. The property is very quiet and relaxing, with a wonderful pool. Don't let the driveway intimidate you on the way in, this destination is well worth the effort! The stay was everything we were hoping for and more. We've already recommended this location to others and would definitely stay here again.

Immersed in nature in the Tuscan countryside.
Castellare is a beautiful building nestling in gardens and woodland in the Tuscan countryside. This was a truly lovely and exceptional holiday. Loggia, where we stayed for a week, is totally in keeping with its surroundings. Rustic, simply furnished, and brimming with character - lots of stone and wood, original prints on the walls, and an interesting selection of books to read. The kitchen, with huge windows overlooking the gardens, and olive trees, was bathed in sunlight in the morning, and a great space to prepare breakfast, lunch and supper to eat outdoors. Birdsong and butterflies filled the air and sky. The pool, surrounded by flowers and fruit trees, was a lovely way to cool down, and relax. Wanting to explore the surrounding area, we found some lovely woodland trails nearby, which took us further into the Tuscan countryside. The views are stunning. Many of these walks started at the nearby village of Santa Brigida, where there was also a couple of shops to buy lovely cheeses, olives and breads. Molina del Piano, which was close by, was also a good place to shop. One day, for a contrast, we took the train from Sieci, close to Castellare, into Florence. We visited the outdoor, and indoor markets, walked across the Arno, and took in the atmosphere of this beautiful, and lively city. Catina was a lovely host. She made sure we had what we needed, helped us to settle in, and then gave us space and privacy to enjoy ourselves. There were other couples, and a family with children staying in the other cottages, and the atmosphere was one of enjoyment, friendliness, and relaxation. In a few words....beautiful, outstanding, exceptional. Thank you Catina.

a magical place, beautiful!
We spent about a month in one of Catina's lovely apartments, with our boy (3) and girl (1) and our dog. It was a very charming and cozy cottage-style flat, with beautiful view over forest and olive trees. Catina, the owner, is a very friendly and open-minded arty person and I adored the beautiful and stylish way she has decorated her apartments. Beautiful stay, very relaxing. A magical old building in the middle of fields and forest! Our children had a great time playing outside with us in the unspoild nature that surrounds the house. Molina del piano is the next village and only a few kilometres away with a lovely fresh bakery and playground in front (great for a panini on the bench, while the children are playing:-) Highly recommended!

zalige week in tof huis
Mooie omgeving, vlakbij Florence, la dolce far niente! Kortom, een topweek! Dankjulliewel 🙏 😍

About the host

My name is Catina, and my family and I (my partner and my son) also live on the spot. This property was bought by my grandparents, and it has always been a holiday home for family and friends while I was growing up. I have been the first permanent resident though, for now almost twenty years, and I adore living immersed in nature in close proximity with the wildlife. Expecially deers. The restructuration of the house took some time during which I started really enjoying all things "home", from furniture to textiles to ceramics. Offering guests a holiday retreat with the warmth and care of a home , in the peace of nature, has become a passion as well as my job.

Why they chose this property

Castellare's unique feature is it's location, completly sorrounded by nature. A driveway of about 700 meters connects the buildings to the main road, a charming winding street called Via di Parga with some breathtaking views. Then the driveway in the woods, where one feels the strains of contemporary life stay behind as the transformative power of nature takes over. Every time I come back from the center and the driving in traffic , I feel restored.
The house appears after the last curve as the most cherished retreat, a place where I have always felt welcomed, from the day I moved in, and it was just the cat and I. Although Castellare really conveys the feeling of being out of time, the neaby village of Molino del Piano (about 5 km away , downhill), embraced me like family. The people have something magical about them, as they are open and friendly and kind, and we easily bonded. To try and participate to local life, like going sometimes for breakfast or a coffee at the local bar ("bar" in Italian is a caffetteria), play tennis in the village courts, or even try the weekly appointment at the free cinema, may give a glimpse to what it means to live in the area. It's a life of simple pleasures, lots of smiles, friendship and all the inspiration one can wish for in perfect reach, may it be the opera , art to last for a lifetime of awe, the discovery of surprising corners of nature, the wandering in one of the most beautiful regions of Italy.

What makes this property unique

The benefit I try to offer guests if the comfort of a cozy home, where it's a joy to return to after a day of adventures. I like that we are small, with just four accommodations. It's not luxury that I love, but the uniqueness of handmade things, silence, and the stories of people from the world. There are many mega resorts in Tuscany, but very few settings like this, unspoilt, and a bit magic.
