Welcome to Lake Buel! This recently renovated cottage has been an old favorite for generations since the 1950’s. Abutting a dramatic sloping hill, this unique spot offers privacy on a dead end road and is a 2 minute walk to the water. Bring your boat and park it at the shared dock or use our canoe and life jackets for your aquatic adventures. All are welcome to experience this space and the surrounding areas.

About Lindsey and Steven
Very nice to meet you! We are New Englanders born and raised and love the outdoors, history, and spending time with friends and family. We love this lake and the community that thrives here and hope you will enjoy it too!
Why Lindsey and Steven chose New Marlborough
We fell in love with the idea of visitors vacationing here for generations and want to continue the tradition by sharing it with all who seek a lake getaway.
What makes this Cottage unique
When we were looking for property in 2015, we were drawn to this cottage because of it's location. The landscape is wild, it's peaceful and close to the lake. We also love the big open floor plan of the house, but when downtime is needed, you can retreat to the small bedrooms and enclosed porch.

Very cute & cozy cabin and even better hosts!
From the time I was looking for properties to stay in for Thanksgiving, Lindsey and Steve were super responsive, enthusiastic and friendly. Since I was coming for Thanksgiving with 2 college age boys and 1 high school boy, I was concerned about cooking Thanksgiving dinner at the cabin. Lindsey took pictures of all the kitchen equipment, as well as sent me links to local grocery stores. It was a great get away, a nice simple house in a beautiful setting!
Cozy Cabin on the Lake
Very clean, cozy cabin. A stone's throw away from the lake. Equipped with everything you need to have fun. The owners are very nice. We stayed during a snowy weekend and loved using the fireplace. We would definitely go back again. We've vacationed in dozens of places and this one ranks in our top 5. Very close to the Appalachian Trail and accessible to Great Barrington.
Cozy cottage close to town
Our family of four stayed at Lindsay and Steven's cottage for three nights over Veteran's day weekend. They have created a very clean, inviting and comfortable living space. Our two boys, ages 5 and 7, had a blast. They gobbled up the banana bread Lindsay and Steven left for us and had a ball playing with the toys in the house. Since it was cold, we often hunkered down and sat by the fire and played games. On one morning, we visited the bowling alley. And of course, we also enjoying perusing the shops in Great Barrington. All in all, it was a nice change of pace for a family from Manhattan. Thanks again to the hosts for their hospitality. They were very easy to communicate with and gave us plenty of recommendations.
Solitary beauty during the fall season, simple yet modern cottage supplying the best stay
Amazing homeowners who left notes for minor details for digital entertainment and fireplace maintenance. A trip to surprise my mother with a visit to the Norman Rockwell museum was a short trip from the cottage to Stockbridge for the day. Nor'eastern invited rain and strong winds deterring from exploring the lake and neighborhood. A bed and cozy private room for both of us, with a modern and space-saving living room/kitchen served up some quality time when returning from a cold day out. Not one negative aspect of the lodgings can come to mind. Constant communication on my part through VRBO messaging consoled any questions or concerns I had. They even left the lights on for our late night arrival and a cinnamon apple loaf on the counter. If ever back in the area both my mother and I agree this would be our first option, any time of the year, eager to explore during the other seasons as well. So happy to have found this gem after a change in plans only days before. Thank you!!
Exhale and enjoy the best of what the Berkshires has to offer...
Tucked away at the end of a private dirt road amongst the woods of Lake Buel, Lindsey and Steve have figured out how to create an environment where one can escape the pace of modern day life and simply BE...the way nature intended us to be...together, as a community/family amongst all the beauty nature has to offer and at a pace we were designed to flourish (put those iPhones away people...you’re not going to need them). My wife and 4 year old daughter stayed for a long weekend arriving excited but a bit tired and departing refreshed and grateful to have had the opportunity to stay here. The hosts were great, going as far as to leave us hand written notes with various instructions and tips on staying at the cottage and the surrounding area. They even went so far as to leave us some delicious chocolate chip cookies. The cottage was plenty spacious, clean and modern (but not too modern where you felt disconnected from the Berkshires vibe). Our daughter loved the fireplace and indoor hammock/swing...her dolls got more use out of it than we did :)
Overall, A+. We will definitely be visiting again. Thank you Lindsey and Steve for being so accommodating and for sharing your home with us.
We had a good feeling about this trip even before we left home. The owners provided excellent directions that included photos for every turn. We arrived at the forested location without a glitch.
We opened the front door, looked in, looked at each other, smiled and said WOW!
We saw an open floor plan with an updated, modern and bright decor. The kitchen was large and fully equipped. We cooked several meals and every tool or gadget we needed was there. The 2 bedrooms, located adjacent to the living space, were both nicely decorated and beautifully prepped. We especially liked having access to the lake and the use of a canoe.
We cannot overstate how hospitable the owners are. They promptly responded to our correspondences before the trip. For our arrival, they wrote a lovely welcoming note accompanied by a bouquet of flowers. They even left us delicious home baked bread in the kitchen. Although we had no reason to contact them, we knew they would be there for us in a second if we needed them.
We are looking forward to many more stays at this wonderful rustic cottage!
