Walk to the town center for some of the best restaurants in CR. Walk to cold river for a CR swim, a 175 yard walk to neighborhood restaurant and Sloth Sanctuary. Mature flora and fauna property with exotic butterflys, hummys, lizards and crazy geckos, as well as beautiful flowering plants and bushes (seasonal). Perfect retreat for couples!

Super cute, cozy, and great location! This place is even better in person. We were a group of three couples traveling together. All had our own bedroom and bathroom, each with a shower. Beds were comfortable and AC worked great in the rooms. We loved the pool, the outdoor seating with big patio table

La Fortuna

The owners were very helpful and reachable when needed. Great location. Nela set up a personal chef Leo for us . What a wonderful experience. He was fun, knowledgeable and the food was wonderful. Definitely, 5 stars

Great place plus three bedrooms and baths

If you are traveling g with other couple or a family, it is hard to find nice place with theee very nice bedrooms, bathrooms and a pool. The kitchen was great too. They also gave us great dinning recommendations.

Great stay

We loved our time here. Very spacious house & guest house. Communication was superb! Very clean! Great recommendations to local restaurants. We loved walking down to the river to look and spot sloths!

Fabulous, relaxing abode close to town

The home is charming and aesthetic, with 3 large bedrooms (one is an en-suite casita), lovely design and a wonderful pool with views of Arenal. We loved our time there and our kids loved having their own pool. The kitchen has everything you need and has a nice indoor/outdoor breakfast bar. The location is great as it's close to town and we loved the restaurant recommendations from the owner!A few things for tenants to be aware of: locking the driveway gate each and every time coming and going (seems to be the trend on the street however), water on the pool deck never went away after first day so was pretty wet out there, and you're in the rainforest so it's buggy (they get in through shower drains). House is very clean and nice and these are things the owners cannot control but wanted to point it out for setting expectations.

Lower Expectations

I felt this review was necessary for safety. The house itself was fine, however, upon arriving there was immediately a random dog at the door with no idea if she had shots, where she belonged or if she was friendly. We were sent a note from the host THE DAY OF OUR ARRIVAL instructing us not to feed the dog if it was at the house (obviously they knew about the situation). We shooed her away, but she returned and slept on the outdoor furniture (fleas?). Over the course of the next 3 days, there were two other dogs that would randomly show up along with barking throughout each night. If you have allergies or are prone to flea bites you should be aware. After 3 fitful nights of sleep, we ended up leaving early as the host only said, they weren't her dogs and it was out of her control. Not even an apology was offered. Also, please be aware, the street traffic was loud, the outdoor furniture beyond worn, master bed uncomfortably hard, mildew on the bathroom window ledges and the armed guard behind the gate at the property across the street was unsettling. Definitely not an ideal situation all around.

Beauty and the beast!

I struggled with this review, because, with a little care and attention, this house could be more amazing. The location is awesome! You get great views of Arenal Volcano and there are many stores and restaurants within a few minutes drive. The layout of the house is also very cute and funtional. The small outdoor garden is beautiful and we saw lots of hummingbird enjoying the nectar from the all the beautiful flowers. The problems, however, were as follows: The house is very difficult to find if you arrive after dark and it gets dark around 5.30pm in Costa Rica. Finding the lock box was also challenging in the dark. When we called the host for direction/ instruction, he seemed bothered by us and made a point of making us aware that he was eating dinner. The toilets gurgle, and on on arrivals the toilet in the cabana room would not flush properly. The host blamed us for putting toilet paper in the toilet, even though we had only just arrived. The shower in the cabana room was also difficult to operate and it was near impossible to get hot water and good water pressure. Our friends had to shower in the main house. The faucet in the master bedroom wobbled around when being used. There was no kitchen towel or dish wash cloths. The oven did not work at all and was partially dislodged from the cabinetry. The pool had missing tile. Overall the house was not well maintained and the host not very gracious, in fact, somewhat abrasive.

The view is worth it

We had a rough start with communication and getting into the property when we arrived late. I was told I would get the check-in details at 2:45 pm. That did NOT happen. I drive for 4 hours and then had to wait and contact via What’sApp, which was never specified in earlier communication with the property manager/owner. Nela was able to communicate the information needed, and the rest of the stay went well. There’s no closets or drawers to unpack your stuff. There’s no air conditioning in the main house, only in the bedrooms, but sitting out on the patio was delightful as I watched the volcano view change throughout our weekend. Nela provided a lot of great recommendations for places to go , eat and see. Overland , I really enjoyed our time there.

Family Vacation

Magnalia House was perfect for our 2 night stay in La Fortuna. Great location to downtown. Clean, comfortable and beautiful. The cabina located just off the main house is perfect for an additional family member or older kids. Each bedroom with their own bathroom and A/C. Very private, located in a developing neighborhood. Neal, the host was very responsive and offered great guidance to restaurants, markets, bakeries and activities. Would recommend and stay again.

One of the best stays we've ever had

I should first say, I am a travel creator and our family travels all around the world so I am very picky. We (my husband, 7 year old twins, and me) stayed here for an entire week and this place was an absolute gem! Nela answered my million questions prior to our trip and was so kind (we got stuck in a rain storm at night on the way from the airport and her and her husband ran to the store so we would have essentials in the fridge for our kids when we got there), and they gave perfect suggestions for restaurants and activities. The house is GORGEOUS and was so clean! It is in a very quiet and safe neighborhood (super important to me) and close to everything. The A/C's in the bedrooms worked great. I saw complaints earlier about no where to hang clothes but they added a hanging rack in the bedrooms so that was perfect too. My kiddos had fun every day swimming in the pool! We saw sloths right down the street which was really cool! I don't have any negative things to say...if we come back to La Fortuna, we will 100% stay here again! It was a trip we will never forget!

Clean and comfortable home

We loved staying in Nela’s home in La Fortuna. The house was very clean, the location of the home was very convenient to everything in La Fortuna. Communication was easy with Nela, and she had great restaurant recommendations. The beds were comfy and we loved spending time outside in the courtyard and taking dips in the little pool to cool down in the afternoon. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

Perfect for La Fortuna/ Arenal

We wanted to find a place in close distance to Arenal/ La Fortuna, and this was a great option for our family of 5. It was a short drive (6 minutes) to La Fortuna and less than 30 minutes to most tours/sites in the area (so we'd recommend having a rental car). The home was relatively quiet (some barking dogs, but that's expected) very clean (but make sure you clean well, otherwise the ants come marching in, but again, that's part of being in Costa Rica). The property manager was very responsive and helpful. We'd rent here again for sure. Thank you!

Great stay in La Fortuna

We stayed 3 nights at Magnalia House and enjoyed our time in La Fortuna. After we downloaded Whats@pp communication with Nela, our host was easy. The property is as pictured and we enjoyed cooling off in the little pool. Nela gave us some recommendations for restaurants and we tried 3 of them, Chante Verde, Mediterráneo, and Kappa Sushi. They were all good. There are many activities to do in La Fortuna which is a short drive away. Beware of ants and do not keep any food/trash out. The bedrooms were air conditioned which was really nice for sleeping. We had power outages several times during our stay which seems to be quite common in Costa Rica so I would recommend flashlights. Using the Waze app was helpful in getting around as there are no addresses in Costa Rica. All in all a wonderful stay and very responsive host.

Peaceful view of volcano

This VRBO is in a new development area so it seems a bit isolated at first but there is a restaurant right up the way and really it's minutes drive from everything else. Was peaceful and secluded feeling with the gate and trees around the pool. Well equipped kitchen, working AC, great communication. Great little place for two or three couples the way the rooms are laid out!

Cute house near town

Great little house. Solid kitchen, good ac in rooms. Cute little pool. Photos are accurate. One thing I didn’t realize from photos is that there are no doors between bedroom and bathroom for 2 of the rooms so if bathroom privacy is an issue be warned!

Fortuna Vacation

Central to Fortuna; we had a car which was very helpful. House is very private behind a big privacy fence. Host was very receptive and kind. We enjoyed the small pool daily-wonderfully refreshing-our group was Four adults..room for 6 adults (two kings and one queen)- three full baths, common room and fully equipped kitchen with oven, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, safe, all items needed for kitchen. Lots of light. No washer on site but laundry nearby. Would definitively stay again.

Loved Our Stay Here!

We loved our stay at this house! It is very clean and comfortable. We loved the pool! The host Nela was very easy to work with. I would definitely recommend staying here. La Fortuna is a great area with so much to do and many great restaurants.

Gorgeous view

Nice Spot on La Fortuna

Nela gave us great recommendations for food. Location easily accessible to waterfalls, volcano hikes and hot springs. Great communication. Recommend for a family of 4-6.
