Welcome to Rocky Point at Squaw Valley! A unique octagonal home recently renovated and situated right in the middle of Central California's beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills, just 1 hour East of Fresno, CA. Perched high on the top of a ridge, we offer some of the most stunning views of the surrounding mountains and the San Joaquin Valley. If you are looking for a great get-a-way for relaxation or adventure we are the place for you.

Activities nearby: Summer and Winter activities in Kings Canyon National Park, Sequoia National Park, and Sequoia National Forest -- not to miss in the parks the General Grant and General Sherman Trees, Grizzly Falls, Roaring River Falls, Boyden Cave (currently closed while undergoing repairs), Crystal Caverns, Moro Rock, horseback riding, Buck Rock Fire Lookout, and plenty of exciting day hikes; fabulous fishing at Hume Lake, White Water Rafting along the Kings River with Kings River Expeditions, Avocado Lake, and Pine Flat Lake; and 15 minutes to our local Project Survival Cat Haven (don't miss this), Fresno Field Archers, and US Forest Service Delilah Fire Lookout (manned summer months only).

Eating Close by: Bear Mountain Pizza (great pizza), Twin Valleys (great food and they have a bar), 30 min - the School House Restaurant & Tavern (well worth the drive and live music on the weekends).

Our property is also located within minutes of 2 local Wineries - Sierra Peaks Winery and Riffelhof Vineyards. Sierra Peaks is open 12 - 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, June through September (559) 731-1960. Riffelhof Vineyards is by appointment only (559) 640-7477. A little bit further back down the hill are several wineries - Cedar View Winery, Kings River Winery, Maréchal Vineyards and others.

We have 3 nicely stocked convenience stores and 2 gas stations (one with diesel) close by for anything you might have forgotten.

Please be aware that this is a NON-Smoking property and due to the high fire danger there are no open flames allowed April 1 to Nov 1.

If you are planning on bringing pets (which are welcome), please keep them on a leash at all times as we are out in the country - we don't want anyone losing their friends. Do not leave pets tied up outside.

About Larry Loucks

Larry and Merili reside in Fresno and manage to get up to their vacation home as often as they can. Larry, an advertising executive, and Merili, a licensed Realtor love the process of renovating homes and have accomplished it many times. They both flip homes on occasion in Fresno, and when they saw this home in 2016, they just had to go take a look. It had been vacant and very run down. They spent 4 months fully renovating the home and are now able to go up and enjoy. As busy as they both are, they decided to share this little unique gem and began renting it out as a vacation rental the summer of 2017.

Why Larry Loucks chose Squaw Valley

Larry's family roots run deep in the area. His great grandfather William “Bill” Clingan came to the area in 1911 as a Forest Ranger and in 1915 he became a District Ranger. During his life he lead parties from the Santa Barbara area into the Kings Canyon area for summer camps, was a member of the first road survey party from Grants Grove into Kings Canyon and built and ran the General Store and tourist cabins in Dunlap, which were later moved to Clingan’s Junction and still bears his family name. He was also one of the members of the committee that was instrumental in bringing electricity into the foothills. Larry's Grandfather, Williams son, Forest Clingan grew up in the General Store at Clingan’s Junction and lived with the family in a cabin behind the store. Forest Clingan was a member of the 1938 survey party that surveyed the last leg of the road in the Kings Canyon area to Cedar Grove and beyond. He was a WWII Vet and a Naval Captain until his retirement in the 1970s when he moved back to the family residence on Hopewell Rd.

Larry's Grandmother Helen was an accomplished artist and both of them were very active in documenting the history of the area, publishing a book on the subject and giving historical talks to many groups.

Ask any long time resident of the area and both Grandparents and Great Grandparents are both fondly remembered.

Larry has many fond memories of spending summers and vacations in the area at my Grandparents’ house, roaming among the golden hills, exploring back country roads with my grandfather and traveling up to the park.

Peaceful and beautiful place to call home for a few days

We couldn't have been happier with our stay. The home was very clean, comfortable and gave us a great place to relax. We stayed for six nights and would have loved to stay longer. We spent three days in the amazing Sequoia and Kings Canyon parks. Our other days we explored the unique countryside and went to Shaver Lake and rented a pontoon boat - it is beautiful and clear. We loved that they provided binoculars to see the wildlife and views, travel books, a cooler for our adventures and the basic necessities needed. The beds were very comfortable. AC worked great, plenty of towels and kitchen items. The views were stunning and we couldn't get over how quiet it was! We loved watching the sunset every evening and watching for shooting stars at night. We enjoyed home cooked meals and coffee on the deck. If we are fortunate enough to go to CA again, we would not hesitate to stay at their wonderful home. Thank you Larry and Merli for your hospitality in letting us stay in your beautiful home.

Simply amazing!

The property was super spacious and amazingly stylish for our family of four. We followed Larry and Merili’s advice and bought most of our groceries before arriving in Squaw Valley but the local amenities were great for the necessities.

We had a brilliant time exploring Kings Canyon NP by day and then enjoying a family meal which was easily prepared in the well equipped kitchen in the evening. Also as a family on a three week road trip vacation, the washer/dryer was a very welcomed.

Thanks for letting us stay in your beautiful home - it was wonderful 😊

Great short getaway

Secluded... great privacy. Loved the view. Sheep and quail came to visit, and we loved it. Completely unplugged... no internet, cable, or network Tv, but tv cabinet is stocked with DVDS. Bed was so comfy. Property is clean and so cute. The water pressure takes a bit of patience. Centrally located for area attractions. Overall wonderful experience.

Phantastic view over the valley

The cottage is placed in a very rural area, on a small hill overlooking the surrounding area into three directions for several miles and into the Fresno area.

We enjoyed the view from the terrace over, especially in the night.

Distance to the Kings National Park entry was abt 90mins.

Beautiful, cozy home with easy access to parks

We truly enjoyed our stay in Squaw Valley. Between a sunset dinner on the porch, card games on the solid wood dining table, and easy access to Sequoia and King's Canyon parks, this was the perfect place for a family vacation. The kitchen was pretty well stocked with utensils and cookware in addition to some basic seasoning, so we easily prepared dinner 2 of our 3 nights there plus breakfasts and packed lunches. One heads up: the sofa bed is one of those fold-downs--fine for one younger person, but not great for anyone who gets stiff (especially after a long day of hiking!). There's an air mattress I would suggest instead.
