About the property

Location, location, location: in the heart of Loudoun County's wedding and wine country.

Relax and unwind in this beautiful historic home that is located just outside of the town of Purcellville. Western Loudoun is bustling with things to do with its many wineries, breweries and restaurants. This is the perfect home to stay in if you are hosting a wedding or just a guest at one of Western Loudoun's incredible wedding venues. Rehearsal dinners or next day brunches would be available for an extra event fee. Outdoor activities are just across the street with Franklin Park and its walking trails, pool and frisbee golf course. Hiking on the Appalachian trail, tubing on the Shenandoah River or sightseeing in nearby Harper's Ferry are just a few of the activities that are at your doorstep.

Tip of the Hill is an oasis to be enjoyed and lived in. The original part of the home was built in 1762 and you can feel the history around you. One of the great features of the house is enjoying the outdoor patio which was built around the original summer kitchen, where meals were cooked over the fire in the summer months. The stonework is so incredible that you can't help but stare at it and appreciate the art and beauty. The large patio has a dining table that seats 12 and is just a wonderful place to gather with your friends and family over dinner.

Tip of the Hill is located on 10 very private acres. Even though the home is over 250 years old, it lives like a modern home with central air, updated baths with marble tile and a gourmet kitchen. There is Xfinity wifi, a flat screen TV, DVD's, puzzles and board games. You will find 1 queen size bed and 2 full size beds with luxurious linens. If cooking at home is what you are after, everything that you need is there to cook a gourmet meal. No need to stress about cooking because some of Loudoun's best destination restaurants are an easy drive away. The patio also features an outdoor gas grill. Don't let the one full bath scare you off because everyone will be fighting over the outdoor shower. This Zen like oasis has a huge rain head shower with hot and cold water. If you have pet allergies this might not be the house for you. There is a golden retriever that lives in the house when it is not rented. There is also an outdoor cat that lives on the property.

Small scale events are available with an event fee. Owner is a licensed realtor in Virginia.

About The Owner

I grew up in Purcellville and truly love living in Western Loudoun. It is so beautiful with lots and lots to explore. Whether you like outdoor activities, searching for that one of kind antique, exploring wineries and breweries, discovering some of Loudoun's destination restaurants or just sitting around reading a book, there is pretty much something for everyone.

The Owner purchased this farmhouse in 1996

Why The Owner chose Purcellville

I remember driving by this house when I was younger and I always loved it. When it went on the market over 20 years ago I was thrilled that we were able to purchase it. The lady that we bought it from had lived here for over 50 years so you can see that this is a property that does not change hands very often. When I tell people where I live they have the same reaction that I had years ago. They tell me that this is one of their favorite properties and they love driving by and seeing it.

What makes this farmhouse unique

I have always loved older homes. It is just really hard to recreate the warmth and character that you get when you walk in to a 200+ year old home. One of my favorites views is looking out over the sink onto the patio and the field beyond that. I love the old stone wall and in early morning the sun shines on the mist in the field. It is a special place and everyone loves to visit. When we added the patio that gave us the ability to host events on a much larger scale. There have been some amazing dinner parties on that patio and I am happy that my guests get the chance to enjoy it.

Great location, great outdoor space

  • 4 of 5

The location is a perfect for visiting many local vineyards and breweries. The house is definitely old - a bit creaky, but well maintained and comfortable. The outdoor patio space is wonderful for enjoying early morning coffees all the way through evening drinks. Laure graciously left us a bag of coffee and a binder full of suggestions for the area. A few downsides - the road is pretty noisy, the cookware isn't in very good shape and there's only one indoor shower/bath, but that was disclosed upfront. Overall, I would still recommend this rental property for a relaxing trip to Purcellville.

History's Phantasms, Wafting in Old Woodsmoke

  • 5 of 5

Unlocking the door, and stepping into the front foyer, the hoped-for scent of centuries-old homes indeed beckoned our arrival. I have always been wistful, touring places like Mt. Vernon, Monticello, or Williamsburg, that I had to pass away so quickly from the scents of woodsmoke in the walls that seemed to want to transmit history by osmosis...the walls may not be able to talk, but one feels that one is inhaling aromas the inhabitants 282 years ago also detected...a place where each meal that boiled over the pot on the hearth was hard-earned, as relief in fleeing the tyranny of monarchy bled into new hypocricies of slavery, yet the dream of a fully evolved and formed democracy goaded our ancestors on. I would love if the owner was able to research what historical figures may have once lived in or visited Tip of the Hill.

It was sublime to rattle around in a large house with brambling, creaking floors, and to cook in a rear-facing, beautifully updated kitchen that retains the iconic American ritual of "sitting around the kitchen table."

The precious little cat, Bella, too, was creaky and sweet, just like the house (she lives outside on the porch).

The parcel of land for the kids to run around on, to explore the various outbuildings, was another treat...the dear land, so incessantly devoured by our development, practically sings gratitude when even a crevice such as this is allowed to live without buildings cutting away its tree-lungs....

The total effect was as of mometarily living a dream in a historical novel, cutting away from the horror of our current body-politic, providing a partial balm for the grief of all the children we have lost far too soon. I am so grateful the owner has offered her home as a place of solace, a healing respite for the wayward stranger.
