Cute cabin and waking up to snow was nice, until the electricity went out. A bit of an ant problem and a hot tub that needed cleaning kind of dampened the experience for us. Based on other reviews perhaps it was a bad day but we’ll try somewhere else next time.
Sorry your stay wasn’t what you expected.
Being in the middle of the woods bugs are to be expected. Although I agree the ants were a problem. But an exterminator was called and it was taken care of.
As for the hot tub, it was good when you arrived. But with heavy use and chlorine dissipation it can get dirty.
I strive to provide my guests with a nice and clean environment. And to give them a stay that I would want in a rental.
Again, sorry your stay wasn’t what you expected.
Perfect Weekend Getaway
Great little cabin in woods for a weekend getaway! They meet you at the cabin to show you around and get you acclimated which is nice because other times I have rented homes it takes a bit to get used to where everything is. They also stock the coffee for you which is a huge plus for me! Really enjoyed our stay overall! View from the hot tub at night was fantastic!
Thanks Sarah. Glad you two had a good time. Hope to see you again in the future.
Relaxing Rainy Escape
We stayed at Deer Run at the end of February. Although the weather didn't cooperate with all of our plans, it was still a perfect weekend. We wanted to have a getaway from daily life and relax, and this cabin is exactly the place for relaxing. We brought books and board games, and used DirectTV to watch a couple of movies. The king-sized bed had a memory foam-type mattress that was amazingly comfortable and we slept in both mornings. The rain kept us from enjoying the fire pit or the double rocker on the deck, but we still took advantage of the hot tub several times. We took a short drive up to Mifflinburg and had a fun evening out at the Rusty Rail. One morning we braved the drizzle and hiked around the Shade Mountain recreational area. Although we couldn't enjoy the views with the rain and fog, we still checked out the Mount Pisgah Altar and had a great hike along a small creek. Heather had everything that we could need available- wood for if we had been able to have a fire, charcoal for the grill, and even some basic cooking spices. She was a great resource for us as we planned the trip and had several questions about hiking in the area. We were pleasantly surprised by just how private the cabin really is, completely surrounded by the woods with the stream gurgling by the deck. We would highly recommend Deer Run for anyone looking to slow down their pace of life by escaping into nature.
I’m glad you two had such a relaxing time, despite the weather. And hope to see you again.
Heather thought of everything for Deer Run Cottage
The cabin is beautiful and well maintained. Heather is the best host we have ever stayed with. Not only did she get us a complimentary bottle of wine for our stay, but she provided us a very appreciated anniversary gift for our getaway, which was splendid. The hot tub was phenomenal and clean and a great addition to the home. I was able to hang in the hot tub and my wife was able to read on the furniture on the deck. It was super relaxing.
For a cabin of this size, the bedroom with the king sized bed (tempur-pedic) was amazing and a real nice surprise. The bathroom was adequate and stocked with extra towels and toilet paper.
The kitchen is great and has all the needed supplies. It was lovely to cook in an open environment and be able to talk to my wife. Great open concept.
The grill outside was great, but keep in mind it does not have a cover top and is more picnic grill so if you are trying to bake on the grill you may need to finish on inside oven. The grill also is not under any cover so if it down pours, you might get wet. Charcoal was provided which again, is just Heather thinking of everything.
The home smelled amazing when we came in which just goes to show you the lengths that Heather goes to with her properties.
The cell coverage is spotty so keep that in mind for you that need to be connected to the outside world. I'd ask Heather about connecting to the outside world because she was able to help us call our kids (who thankfully weren't staying with us), which was super convenient.
There is a creek on property which adds to the serenity.
Finally, the only flaw about this listing is that the property could be better pictured in the images above to get a better idea of how amazing the cabin and surrounding property is. The creek is right next to the house and you can see it and hear it from the deck or with the window open at night which was a great surprise.
Overall a five star property.
Thanks Ken, I’m glad you and your wife had such a good time, and hope to see you again in the future.
One of our better stays!
My wife and I do the winter cabin getaway, at least 2 times a winter. Out of all of our stays from Main to Ohio (we're situated out of NYC) this one is hard to beat. For the price, you rally can't ask for more. The location was private, accessible, and beautiful. We had a hot tub, electric fire place, and the heating system is more than adequate. We thoroughly enjoyed a small snow covered hill, and the babbling creek right to the side of the house. Honestly though, the host probably had something to do with the 5 star review she is getting. Heather greeted us from the get go with a bottle of local wine. Heather was very hospitable, and welcoming, we will definitely come back!
Great Weekend Getaway
My boyfriend and I stayed here as a Christmas present to each other. It was a great way to relax for a weekend. Heather supplied stacks of wood for our fire, extra blankets and towels, and helpful information on the day to day in the cabin. I was surprised to see how fully stocked the kitchen was with pots, pans, plates, etc. One thing I would add is an area to store dry food - this was not a huge problem, we just left our dry food in the bag we brought it in!
The cabin is very cool with an awesome loft area - we did not make sure of the loft but did climb up there to check it out. Nearby there are wineries and breweries that made for fun day trips. We would definitely return!
Thanks Alyssa. We had actually talked about and looked for some kind of shelf or cabinet for that purpose. We just haven’t found what we are looking for yet. But thanks for the feed back and suggestion. Hope to see you again.
