Great place to relax and fish the great Penns Creek!
Overall,we had a really good experience at Diggers Den. It is everything that the owner describes. Yes, the water has a strong sulfur odor, but that was really the only negative. If you're looking for a replacement for your home, this isn't your place. If you're looking to semi- "rough it," then this IS your place. Dish TV met those indoor needs, but fishing in Penns Creek 20 steps from the house was awesome! Smallmouth bass were plentiful. Unfortunately, we had tremendous rain during our weekend. We would do Diggers Den without question!
A Great Place for Meditation and Solitude (at least at this time of year).
I really appreciated my time at the cottage. Enjoyed having breakfast on the deck in the morning. The peace and quiet of the location. The "fly-by" the Heron were an added bonus. The morning mist on Penns Creek provided another picture to my memory. Gentle rain on the metal roof was soothing and relaxing.
I'd visit this place again.
Love us some Penn's Creek
Always a great stay here at Digger's Den
Great home and location, but water very smelly!
We loved the house and the location. It did have a damp feel and musty odor when we arrived. Having no wifi is a blessing and a curse. The water has a very strong smell and made it virtually impossible to take showers or even brush teeth. If the water issue were to get resolved, we would go back! Great value for house, but the water was terrible!
We were going to a family reunion at a cabin on the creek not too far away so this was a perfect crash pad for our family before and after the festivities. We didn't get a chance to use the kayaks or the hot tub (but it looked clean and functional). The deck was nice but overrun with spiderwebs. To be expected on the creek, but made it hard to enjoy. The view was lovely. The inside of the cabin was great! Clean and comfortable. Water was smelly, but we managed to shower and then dump some bottled water on our heads to rinse off.
Not for everyone....
There's a couple of really good things about this cabin, and some not so good. Lets start with the good:
- there's a really nice, large deck overlooking Penns creek,
- good small mouth fishing right off the bank, (white jigs and small crankbaits are the ticket!)
- the kayaks on hand for use,
- little traffic on the road in front of the cabin,
- Nice fire pit on the pad next to the river,
- hearing the Amish buggies go by especially on Sunday, when there are many on the way to/from church.
On the not-so-good side, if you are afraid of spiders or bugs in general look elsewhere as this place has plenty inside and out. Inside is pretty old and well used. As is typical for the area, the well water is absolutely nasty smelling due to mineral content. Makes it difficult to wash dishes, brush teeth, etc. We showered at a family member's house locally as the smell was too much to bear. Firewood rounds in the outside rack were wet, plus it's sycamore so damn near impossible to chop up.
For me and my boy it was fine. We spent 90% of our time on the deck, in a kayak, or wade fishing in the river, catching a lot of nice smallies. We were there to visit relatives and relax, and the deck was a great place for that. Bugs don't bother us and we used bottled water to make coffee and brush our teeth. I've spent time in way worse places.
