Our historic fishing cabin, built in 1952 is located on the banks of the Kern River in the residential neighborhood of Riverkern. It is situated on 1/2 acre of riverfront property with a large deck, and grassy, shaded yard. It's a peaceful escape, located in the diverse ecosystem of the Kern River Valley. We are located 3 miles up the river from the main town of Kernville.
From the property, you are about 50 yards from the river and are surrounded by sounds of rushing water. By walking out the back yard, you can easily access the river and a short nature trail that leads to Bubbles Beach, a big eddy with a sandy beach.
Our cabin is old fashioned and rustic. We lovingly restored it 15 years ago, and enjoy sharing it with considerate people who appreciate a simple, yet comfortable setting. The ambiance is complimented by antique furnishings and artwork of the Sierra.
In winter, the cabin is heated by wood stove, and a swamp cooler keeps you comfortable in the summer. The kitchen has a gas stove, coffee maker, toaster, and basic condiments. There is no TV, microwave or dishwasher, but we do have wireless internet.
The town of Kernville, located three miles down the road, is a recreational center with outfitters for rafting, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, and fly fishing. It has a small town atmosphere with restaurants, antique stores, a historic museum, and riverside park. This amazing area is the gateway to the Sequoia National Forest, home of the Needles climbing area and the Forks of the Kern.
Lynne lives in South Pasadena and journeys often to Kernville to climb, kayak, ski and mountain bike.
Lynn Siodmak purchased this cabin in 2000
Lynne has been kayaking Kernville since 1990 and loves the river environment and the community. Fifteen years ago, she was fortunate to find this little cabin for sale on the banks of the Kern. It was in terrible shape, but all it needed was some tender loving care. It's now restored and we love sharing it with others.
The river sounds wonderful and the views of mountains are stunning. It's easy to swim and kayak right from the back door. We love being outside on the trails, hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and climbing, or making the short trip to town to explore antique stores and see friends at the Brew Pub!
My family needed a weekend away and I wanted to go fishing. I didn't want to stay in a hotel and most rentals are to large and need to be booked with with another family or friends in order to make it reasonable. This cabin was perfect for the 4 of us. The cabin itself was just as the pictures showed. The beds were very comfortable and the river was in the back yard. Not sure what more I could have asked for. The owner, Lynne was great. She was so accommodating and easy to reach. I'm already planning on my return trip this summer.
I just returned from a 4 night stay with my husband and two daughters ages 9 and 12 and it was a truly unforgettable vacation! This cabin was clean and roomy and had the most beautiful backyard deck with access to the river for fishing. We spent each afternoon walking to Bubbles Beach with our inner tubes and many times we were the only people there. The kids were concerned about not having a tv... we didn't miss it for a minute! We played board games and watched the sunset on the deck (while my youngest looked for bats!) The area is so quiet that we ate most of our meals on the deck. We took day trips to The Trail of 100 Giants and to play on the rope swing behind McNally's and to Lake Isabella. It's a perfect home base location. Thanks Lynne for a truly unforgettable experience!
Came up from the L.A. area for a 3-night stay with our 8 year old twins to get away from the city and enjoy the river. We had never been before. Lynne was fantastic to deal with, easy communication and very friendly and accommodating. Her cabin is in a spectacular spot, right on the river and just a short walk to the very kid-friendly swimming area, Bubbles Beach. The pictures of the yard and deck really do not do them justice - it is just so relaxing and shady, and pretty private back there, even with neighbors right on either side. She has a nice, clean gas BBQ grill and comfortable deck chairs and a large patio table with chairs to enjoy dining outdoors.
Her cabin shows her love for the area and nature, and is lovingly furnished and kept very clean. Pretty much anything you could need while there (dishes, cookware, linens, etc.) is provided and in top shape. The swamp cooler worked really well during the hot summer afternoons. We enjoyed barbecuing and sitting out on the deck. The starry nights were mesmerizing, and for our city kids, a real treat. Our little family really connected and had some great conversations on that deck - it's just sort of magical. The river, while obviously really low right now, was just perfect and beautiful. We enjoyed seeing all sorts of critters in and along the river.
Riverkern is in a great area, with convenient access to Trail of 100 Giants (amazing!), and just a few minute drive to all the shops and restaurants in the charming town of Kernville. The folks at the Riverkern General Store, literally a two minute walk from the cabin, were very friendly. Beyond food, the general store sells everything you could need but might have forgotten (tubes, river shoes, life vests, hats, food, fishing tackle, etc.).
We cannot wait to come back!! Thank you, Lynne!!
Came up to fish the Kern and ended up sitting through a good rainstorm, which made the cabin a perfect place to hang out. The wood burning stove kept us warm and the board games and cards kept the fun going even though we were indoors. Lynne made the stay exceptional with wool blankets to sit with, patio chairs to watch the water flow by and really comfortable bedding & nice towels. The area was really quiet and the neighbors were friendly when we saw them.
This little cabin is a gem. We stayed for three nights and had an amazing time. The yard is adorable and has a huge deck backing the river. We spent most of our time on the deck listening to the river and the birds. This is the perfect place to come to unplug and unwind. Lynne is great to work with and responds immediately. Thank you for being pet friendly. We will return again.
This is such a great little cabin. My kids (9 & 10) practically spent the entire weekend exploring at the river out back. They didn't even miss having electronics. In the early morning hours 4am or so we went star gazing off the deck...very magical. The furnishing were so adorable (the rocking chair was my favorite). We hope to come back in the summer for the kids to actually tube down the river.
Riverkern Cabin is located three miles up river from Kernville in a residential neighborhood. River access in our neighborhood is for residents only, so the stretch of river out our back door is quiet and peaceful.
