Remodeled cabin on two lots with wonderful views of Lost Valley

Remodeled cabin on two lots with wonderful views of Lost Valley and the San Juan’s right at the base of Pagosa Peak. Nestled amongst fir spruce and aspens this area is surrounded by national forest on all sides. This two-story frame cabin is 1400 square feet with a balcony that looks up at Pagosa The Aspen Chalet is nestled in the woods, you can enjoy the soothing sound of the breeze through the trees. This 2 bedroom house is a delightful and fun. It is a unique cabin with comfortable beds and feather pillows. It is bright and cherry and located 500 yards from National Forest. It overlooks the lake and is a restful world that you can retreat into. It has lovely balconies for sharing a cup of tea or coffee in the morning. There is great hiking in every direction from the chalet. About a mile north of the cabin is a incredible box canyon that explore from the top of the canyon or explore the interior of the canyon. There are waterfalls and high mountain lakes. This charming chalet will leave you relaxed and wanting to stay longer. It is at 9000 ft so has cool refreshing air in the summer; it is a great way to beat the summer heat. The chalet has a washer and dryer, dishwasher, barbeque, and espresso machine, balcony off of master bedroom, electric heat, and potbelly stove upstairs. It has one queen, two twins and futon. It is a great cabin that everyone loves due to its location which is 11 miles north of Pagosa Springs. If you like high mountain air and need a place to get away from the heat this will do the trick. Town is close enough so if you want to go for a meal, visit the hot springs, go boating on the river or fishing, it is all very doable yet you are away from it all when you come back to the cabin. Base prices are for 2 people. Each additional person after 2 people is $8 a night per person.

Aspen Chalet is in Lost Valley which is a small settlement, surrounded by national forest at about 9,000 ft elevation at the base of Pagosa Peaks. You have neighbors but they a scattered through the valley in an unobtrusive way.

If you like the Rocky Mountain air, beautiful aspen and fir forests, you may enjoy this little gem of a cabin.

It is close to golfing, deep powder skiing, cross country skiing, and famous hot springs that people travel from all over the world to experience. This area also offers great hiking, biking, rafting, kayaking, world class trout fishing, and water sports of all kinds, balloon rides and horseback rides. The outdoor activities are endless. We are also close to Mesa Verde National Park, Chama railroad and Durango / Silverton narrow gauge.

It is very clean and light, two bedrooms and one bath. Washer, Dryer, Dishwasher, back porch barbeque and porch off of master bedroom, electric heat, potbelly stove upstairs. It has one queen, two twins and futon.

Up in the Mountains

  • 5 of 5

The cabin was great. We had plenty of room for our three boys. Four mile falls trail head is just a mile away from cabin. The drive from town to the cabin was one my favorite drives ever. The scenic views of the valleys and mountains are epic. The 112 degree lobster pot at the springs in pagosa is a must. A short walk to the ponds from the cabin gave me cell service. I will admit having no cell service was a blessing. We turned on the FM radio opened the windows and just enjoyed the mountains. I will 100% be back to this area. I would definitely stay at the cabin again.

Beautiful scenery, mountains and off in the boonies!

  • 3 of 5

Cozy cabin just as it appears, surrounded by woods and scattered cabins down the road. Only a few other vehicles would pass by morning & evening. Our vehicle is not 4WD so we parked near the top of the driveway. We had rain each afternoon of our stay which made going into the cabin a little more of a hassle with having to take off shoes, wiping pet paws and also kept us from being able to enjoy the back deck. There are stepping stumps at bottom portion of driveway to front door and around side of cabin, the first one was slippery heading around side to back. There is a pond we walked to down the main road. We did get to perch our camp chairs in the back past the porch once, after a long hike before the next rains came. Though wet, we walked our dog along the short foot trail directly behind the cabin, heading up the hill and down as far to a group of Aspen trees where it seemed to end. We picked up groceries before the 30 minute drive to get to the cabin. The kitchen served our needs of 4 adults and the bathroom/shower had ample room. There is a TV upstairs for watching VCR movies on hand but there is no standard service/channels for viewing. The steps going upstairs to the bedrooms and TV are quite creaky. Queen bed was comfortable, but the single twin beds felt small for their size according to our adult children. The extra blankets were a bit musty but kept us warm. We had socks with sandals but slippers would have been better. It was chilly at night. Overall it was a good visit in beautiful woods, just a little to wet for us. The rains were much needed though.

Nice Peaceful Cabin

  • 4 of 5

The cabin offered a nice peaceful break. Lots of the time we could just relax outside and listen to nature with the rush of aspens in the wind, and different bird songs. The only real downside is the relatively long 30 minute trip to get to town.

We were in awe of the serenity in this location up the mountain on a dirt road north of Pagosa.

  • 5 of 5

We immensely enjoyed the peace and quiet. It was exactly what we needed to reconnect as a family. We set our chairs a few hundred feet up the hill in the back to watch the sunset each night. The view was gorgeous. There were also two ponds we walked down to each morning to view the sunrise and a plethora of beautiful birds. The cabin was very clean and comfortable. The balcony was the perfect location for stargazing at night. Overall incredible experience!

Great high altitude cabin deep in the woods.

  • 4 of 5

Great little house. Our boys loved it. Caught lots of small fish in the two ponds behind the house. Lots of woods to explore and hike through. Very secluded. 11.2 miles north of Pagosa Springs and is at about 8850ft altitude. Very cool in the morning and evening. No need for air conditioning, even in June/July. We just opened the windows and it got cold. Very nice mountain air! Only downside was we had a few wasps in the house, I think because some of the Windows don't shut very easily. There was some bug spray under the kitchen sink and after spraying that around all the windows and doors it seemed to take care of them. Overall, great place! It's got everything you need. I would rent it again.
