About this property
Calling all Conchs! Ocean View, Pet and Family Friendly
Voted the "Best Little Beach Town in America" Topsail Island is a great choice for an affordable family vacation. Our cozy, tropical-themed cottage is just steps away from the beach with an ocean view from our front deck. "Downtown" is just a short 2 mile drive, bike, or walk.
With two queen beds, a twin bed with trundle, and Pack 'n Play, there’s enough room to comfortably accommodate up to 4 adults and 2 children under 12. Each bedroom has its own Smart TV plus a large TV with DVD in the living room. Our free wireless internet lets you “surf” while you surf and a laser printer is also available for your use. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator/freezer, microwave oven, coffeemaker, and a blender for those 5:00 Margaritas! If the weather turns bad (Gosh, we hope not!) there's some board games and a cache of Disney movies to keep the kids occupied. Down below you’ll find covered parking for 2 cars with a conveniently located 110V outlet for EV charging (Bring your own cable.), a full size washer and dryer, a park-style grill for cooking those burgers and 'dogs, and a hot & cold shower for rinsing the sand off after a lazy day on the beach.
Topsail Island is one of the few remaining places on the east coast where you can still take your dog on the beach (with a leash, of course.). We allow guests to bring up to a maximum of 2 small, well behaved dogs (no cats please) under 25 lbs. with a modest pet charge. Contact us for total pricing.
We restock our beach items at the beginning of each season however our inventory of chairs, floats, and sand toys varies throughout the summer depending on what guests take, break, or leave behind. Please note that while we provide pillows and blankets you will need to bring your own sheets, pillowcases, and towels or rent them from one of the vendors on the island. We'll be happy to connect you up. Bicycles, kayaks, surfboards, fishing equipment, beach umbrellas and other paraphernalia are also available for rent close by.
Too much sun? Don't fret! The island's Sea Turtle Hospital is internationally known for their work and is well worth a tour. They operate entirely from donations so your admission really does support a great cause. Be sure to go online and check their tour hours before you run down there. They are located on the mainland just over the swing bridge and down the road from the miniature golf course. Details are available on the web. If you are into history there’s the Missiles and More Museum down island in Topsail Beach. The Poplar Grove Farmer’s Market is open from 8 AM to 1 PM Wednesdays only. You'll find lots of fresh produce, baked goods, organic products, and crafts. Also, Bannerman Vineyard and Winery is just a 30-minute drive away in Burgaw.
Still restless? Head for the Riverwalk in Wilmington about a 45 minute drive away. There you will find a plethora of restaurants and shops as well as the battleship USS North Carolina which you can tour. Cross the causeway and head south to historic Ft. Fisher where the largest land-sea battle of the Civil War was fought. It's also the site of North Carolina's award-winning aquarium. On your way back, check out Carolina Beach's seaside boardwalk complete with summer amusement rides.
Surf City recently added a free program where guests with disabilities can borrow a big wheel beach wheelchair at no charge with a 50.00 deposit. Find out more at surfcity.recdesk.com.

We really enjoyed our stay at the house. The location was great we could see the water from the deck and the area was quiet. The house was perfect for the five of us. And thanks to the owners for keeping in touch with us to make sure everything was good.

Cute place, just steps from the beach access! Close to restaurants and stores but far away enough that it's peaceful.

We are pleased you enjoyed staying at our place. We picked that neighborhood so it was a little ways from town but not too far to be inconvenient. We also liked that the beach isn't as crowded, especially on weekdays and that it's only a short walk.
The house was perfect for our small family. We loved the location because it was close to restaurants and shops, but also so close to be the beach. Check-In and Check-Out were so simple. We were able to easily communicate with the property owner, he was super quick to respond and checked in on us during our stay. He also provided us with a list of things to do and offered great advice for our stay. Would definitely recommend this home for another family.
We had a great time staying at this property. The house was clean, well kept and very cozy. We had everything we needed and a very short walk to the beach. Will stay again.

The house was exactly as listed. Location and proximity to the beach are the best features of the house. Owner was very responsive and flexible. Would love to visit again.
Perfect fit for myself, hubby and grown dtr for a week. Very nice place and wonderful location. Bathrooms were bigger than I was expecting with only being 800 sq ft. We had plenty of room! Love the front porch too!

Thanks Elaine. Please come back and see us. Mi casa, su casa!
This is a great place for a small family. The property has a large deck with ocean view. The outdoor hammock is very relaxing after a long day on the beach. It is a very short walk to the beach and the outdoor shower is handy. The owners were polite, helpful, and accommodating. We had a fantastic time and I highly recommend a stay here.

Nice house with easy access to beach. Outdoor shower a plus. Not cluttered with cheesy beach decor like some. Mattress in master bedroom not comfortable. Front bedroom was better. Outdoor deck lighting and furniture were nice. Showers are small but would still recommend this place.

Thanks for the kind words. Just a note: The mattress in the main bedroom is a new (just purchased) memory foam. If you're not used to memory foam it will feel a little more firm at first than a traditional innerspring. We believe in choices so we moved the inner spring to the front room for people who prefer squishy.
My family and I stayed for a week with our two dogs and fully enjoyed our stay in the house. From the moment we walked in you could tell it was thoroughly cleaned, it was quite honestly the cleanest house I have ever rented on Vrbo. But there was one problem with the yard of the property. In the yard there were plants that had little balls with thorns and would stick onto the bottom of our shoes, feet, and onto the paws of our dogs. On another note the showers were a tight fit, but it did its job; the bed frame in the master bedroom would constantly squeak if you moved a little but its not a issue if you are a heavy sleeper. Overall, even with some of the issues I highly recommended staying at this property and at Topsail itself.

Thanks Bety, I did a advise you in your welcome packet about the cocklebur plants that are indigenous to the island and to pack some tweezers or a Hemostat to save your fingers! I agree they’re pretty annoying but since we border the right of way there is not much we can do about them. Thanks for your comments.

Great location dirty house
Pros-Great location to the beach in a quiet part of topsail. Barry was nice and quick to respond but hard to do much when he is down in Florida!
Cons-The house was dirty! Mattress pads were stained and ripped. There was dust covering every surface. Open dog food containers, pudding packs, and open drinks all under beds (which again COVERED in dust and hair).
Broken outdoor chairs as well! Making it hard to sit and relax with family.
Also be advised you can not turn the AC below 72 degrees!
Sadly we will not be staying here again!

Hey Grant,
We're sorry for the deficiencies you found and do appreciate letting us know about the mattress covers at the time you arrived. Since the previous guests made no mention of the mattress covers until the morning they departed it's quite possible that the problem occurred while they were there. Admittedly, unless you're operating a hotel it's a bit of a challenge to get supplies quickly in a small town like Surf City but we did our best. We are now asking our guests to advise us upon arrival (You did call us about the mattress covers right away but never mentioned the other problems.) to avail us of what's needed. Rest assured we will be speaking with the housekeeping staff. For your troubles we did send a gift box to the house and we assume you got it although we never heard back. Again, please accept our apologies.
House was just as pictured. Very clean, comfy and up to date. Even though it’s not ocean front, the view for the deck is so nice. Loved sitting on the porch at night listening to the waves. Beach access is near the rental which was great. Location is great, only a short distance to restaurants. Rental is located in a nice, laid back area. We had no issues with noise or loud neighbors. Owners were great to work with. I used my work phone and e-mail for the rental. For some reason it blocked all my messages with check-in instructions. I called the owner twice on my first day lol. They were very helpful, polite and resent the instructions to my daughters email which we received with no problems. Even called me the next day to make sure everything was okay. I would highly recommend this rental.
Fantastic location! Super short walk to beach! You can see and hear the ocean from the deck! Loved the outdoor shower and the covered parking area under the house. There was a closet to put your chairs and other beach items in under the house. There were beach toys, beach chairs (3 and 1 that was wooden but we didn’t use that one),an inner tube, and a boogie board. There was a clothes line under the house too. The house was cozy and cute. AC works like a dream! All rooms have a ceiling fan. The showers are a little tight to shave your legs ladies but you can always use the outside shower. We found the beds to be comfortable. There are only 4 chairs at the kitchen table but there are wooden TV trays you can use. Overall we really enjoyed Conched Out and the owners were amazing. They were always available to text or call. They even called us midweek to see how our stay was going and asked if we needed anything!

About the host
Hosted by Barry Mitzner
Originally from the Washington DC area, I moved to South Florida in 1975 by way of the University of Georgia where I studied Veterinary Medicine. My spouse who hails from Charleston, SC and I are empty nesters just enjoying life until we're ready to retire.
Why they chose this property
When you need a break from the big city, Topsail Island is an awesome place. The first time I crossed the historic old swing bridge onto the island I could literally feel the stress flowing out of my body just like the tide. With just a few exceptions all of the restaurants on the island itself are small family-owned as well as most of eateries and stores just across the bridge on the adjoining mainland. Because the house tends to stay rented throughout the summer we visit during the off-season which we highly recommend for the "ultimate chill out".
What makes this property unique
We're located on a mostly residential street close to the beach but far enough away from the bustle and crowds of the main part of town. Restaurants are casual, family friendly, and reasonably priced. If you come during the off season you will likely be sharing the beach with only the seagulls!
