Guests may use the projector screen for watching your favourite movies.
There is a BBQ with refillable propane tanks.
The off limit areas are the garage-unless arranged for snowmobiles, the bathroom closet on the side of the tub, the cupboard above the microwave, and the downstairs freezer.
BYOW- Drinking the water is not recommended as it is not potable. (We use it for dogs and watering flowers. Dogs love it! But they also drink out of the river. We have a water cooler with a jug on it and there are usually 20L jugs with plastic and elastic on them with well water if you wish to use it (we use it for drinking, coffee, boiling, etc). Bottled water is also convenient to have on hand.
Bedding- We have sheets for all of the beds if you do not have a specific size or would prefer to use ours. The master and pullout bed both are queen size- sheets are under the master bed in a bin. The middle bedroom has twin bunk beds- sheets are in bin under the bed. The third bedroom has a twin and double bunk bed- sheets are under the bed in bin. Upon leaving please strip sheets and leave in the laundry area. Extra blankets are in bedroom closets.
BYO other stuff: Food and water
If you bring any paper products-(we do supply toilet paper) see septic rules in COTTAGE QUIRKS in the manual. We have towels (hand, bath, etc.)
Heating the cottage- Use the thermostat in the hallway to the left of the pantry. You may use the wood stove if you like. Guidelines and instructions are in the manual. Use the hardwood by the wood stove only.
Garbage and Recycling-RENTERS ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING GARBAGE AND RECYCLING.
DO NOT HAVE ANY FOOD GARBAGE OUTSIDE! There are bears that have been seen when food has been disposed of outside. There are clear garbage bags under the sink. Keep a garbage under the sink designated for food only (I usually put a large clear garbage bag in the utility cupboard for convenience or large food items). The dump requirements are that they allow one opaque bag in the large clear bag for personal items. When clear garbage bag is full you can place it in garbage can downstairs by the furnace-until you check out.
There is a landfill/recycling site in town that you may use, on your way out, directions are in the cottage manual. *They are CLOSED on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and holidays. Recycling is free but garbage bags are $3 each and Industrial size bags are $5. To be permitted to use landfill you would give the cottage address and say you were renting.
SEPTIC TANK: Due to having a septic tank there are some important considerations to keep in mind:
Do not park on grass inside the driveway-Septic bed
Nothing but human waste in the toilets/grey water down the drains
Only septic approved toilet paper can be used (Recycled tissue, rapid dissolve, 100% bamboo). Read the label for approved use- ie: Kirkland *DO NOT USE!!!!!: Cottonelle or Charmin!
The most important items that should NEVER be flushed in a septic system include:
o Coffee grounds
o Disposable diapers
o No baby wipes-even biodegradable
o Sanitary napkins or tampons
o Kitty litter
o Hair combings
o Dental floss
o Cigarette butts
o Fat grease or oil
o Kleenex/Paper towels or bandages
o Any chemicals ie: paint
DISPOSING OF GREASE: After making anything that creates grease waste- pour grease into coffee cans. They are under the sink OR already in the fridge. When poured in and cooled after refrigeration, place in the food garbage and take with you.
Where to find things:
Dish rack-under sink, far left on shelf, Dish soap- under sink, large clear garbage bags/kitchen garbage bags- under sink
Flashlights- on most hooks by doors but also in cupboard above big utility cupboard
Headlamps- in the main hall closet on the far right side.
Tools/Light bulbs etc.-Upper utility cupboard (closest to the hallway)
In cupboards/drawers-dishes, utensils, various sized bowls, cutting boards, pots, pans, baking sheet, fondue set, veggie steamer, Kuerig coffee maker, sangria dispenser, pizza cutter, lime/lemon juicer, etc. - please explore
First aid kit in the utility cupboard beside microwave.
Fire extinguisher to the right of utility cupboard on the right.
Guests are to clean up dog run and yard after all pets. If you have a shedding dog please give the cottage a vacuum before you leave (in the main hall closet) to ensure extra cleanliness.
This is a peaceful and respectful neighbourhood. Many neighbours live here year round. Everyone here respects each other, the environment, and the wildlife. Again, this is an environmentally friendly area and we ask that you leave minimal carbon footprint, ie: NO FIREWORKS-(there is a ban in Ryerson township).
DO NOT DISTURB TURTLES!!! They use the boat ramp in the spring for going to the river to mate. We call it "Turtle Highway". Respect their mating habits.
The last hill leading to the cottage is quite steep-use caution in bad weather.
