Exactly as described!

This was a lovely cottage and we enjoyed staying here. Very clean.

The owners were wonderful to work with and very friendly. The people on the island were friendly and nice. Fantastic beach within walking distance. Food was excellent at the restaurants we visited. I would definitely recommend this rental to anyone who loves islands and beaches. We hope to return one day!

Very enjoyable stay!

  • 5 of 5

Had a very nice and relaxing stay over Labor Day weekend. Took all necessary supplies so never needed to leave to re-stock. Walked to the beach, caught fish, ate out on the deck at sunset...great time. Would recommend to anyone seeking a peaceful getaway place that provides all you need!

Wonderful!!

The owners are very responsive. I had sent a few emails before our trip and they always responded the same day. During our stay, we didn't have any issues so did not reach out but I imagine they would have been just as responsive. The house was really well stocked with everything you'd need for vacation. The kitchen had every utensil, pan, and dish you'd need to prepare meals at home (which we did most of our stay). The bedrooms and bathrooms are small and are made to feel even smaller by the amount of furniture in each room. Some changes in furniture could make the spaces feel less crowded. For example, a tall shelf unit in the main bathroom is right in front of the door. Although it's used to store towels, a smaller shelf moved closer to the bath tub could serve the same purpose and make the bathroom feel larger. The shared living spaces were spacious and comfortable. My kids really enjoyed eating their meals at the bar. We found several games in the drawer under the tv that helped pass some time on rainy days. The wifi was easy to connect to and we didn't experience any issues with it. One thing to make note of though, there is a note on the refrigerator that says the trash runs on Monday and Saturday and that they run early so to set it out the night before. The actual run times were different than the note though. The first time it came was around 10 pm on Sunday evening and then it came again on Friday morning at 7:15 and again Friday evening around 9:30. We were fortunate to have already set our trash out but if you're the kind to wait until the last minute, don't. There was a wagon, beach chairs, and umbrella in the room under the house that we took to the beach every day. We really enjoyed having the wagon with the kids because they tend to want to bring sand toys and googles and drinks so it made carrying everything a breeze. The picnic table under the house was really nice. We sat out there while our kids played in the sandbox and while my husband grilled dinner on the barbecue that was there. One of our favorite parts of this house was the screened in porch. It rained almost every day during our visit but we were still able to sit out on the porch and enjoy the scenery and the sounds of the gulf. Being so close to the beach and having the screened in porch really made our trip a great one. Thank you to the Dennis' for such a wonderful experience!

Charming beach house

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here and appreciated that it had everything we needed to cook and to make ourselves at home. It was a short walk to the beach and had a pretty view. The screened-in porch was a lovely place to eat when the weather was nice. The only issue we had was that the Internet was very slow and brought back memories of dial-up, but I assume that is unavoidable due to the remote location and it was a good nudge to spend more time disconnecting while on vacation. We will definitely return to Dauphin Island and hope to stay here when we do!

Nice older house

  • 1 of 5

Nice older house. Great for dogs. The bedrooms were small, if you are a large person this is not for you. My husband and I are not large people and we did not have any room at all to walk around the bed the furniture was too large. The house inside could use some updates it's very dated... Short walk to the beach. Overall is was nice.

Great location, responsive owners, perfect size for a family of 5

We loved our vacation to Dauphin Island! The Carter's house was perfect, just two short blocks from the beach. It ended up being colder than anticipated during our stay, but our boys still had fun building sand forts. And the adults enjoyed dolphin watching--they would come up right next to the shore and fish.

Having a washer and dryer in the house was a huge help, as was the dishwasher. The kitchen had everything one would need for almost any type of meal.

This was our first trip to Dauphin Island. It's a wonderful quiet community, but there is a lot to keep everyone of all ages occupied, should it rain or you want a change of pace from lazing on the beach. The Estuarium is well worth the price of admission. And the trails at the bird sanctuary are beautiful. The public beaches on both ends of the island are great for finding shells and bird watching. The ferry over to Fort Morgan is very nice and you can easily walk to the fort, so you really don't need to pay to take your car on the ferry, just do the walk on.

Also, do not miss the Lighthouse Bakery, but go early for the best selection. Dority's and I.R. Italian are great for dinner.

If you plan on making meals at the house, be sure to stop for groceries in Mobile. There is a well stocked general store on the island, but you will pay extra for the convenience.
