About this property

This property is no longer available.

Welcome to Wagon Wheel Ranch, the perfect rustic getaway in the heart of the Santa Ynez Valley. Relax and unwind on your secluded patio or in the vine covered pergola overlooking the arena. There is a walking path around the property which winds through the tranquil oases scattered throughout the lush landscape. The newly remodeled barn apartment features a master bedroom, a bathroom with a washer and dryer, a full kitchen with dining for 4 and island seating for 2 along with a wood burning stove, a rustic family area with a large screen television, a very cool loft with additional sleeping for 2 smaller cowboys or cowgirls, an outdoor patio with a barbecue grill, a fire pit, and al fresco dining for 4 not to mention a spectacular view of the sunset. The Wifi signal is strong and there is a desk in the bedroom just in case you have to do some work while you are here.

When you arrive you will find a nice variety of beverages and some snacks. The pantry is stocked with coffee, tea and a variety of seasonings. Families with children will enjoy visiting with my horses, dogs, cats, chickens and ducks, a grand total of 25 animals including a 6 month old colt named Prince Albert. Be on the lookout for deer, jack rabbits, coyotes, raccoons and skunks that occasionally wander through the property. And speaking of animals, your dogs and horses are welcome at my ranch as long as you let me know in advance.

So after a full day of hiking, biking or wine tasting, you can look forward to firing up the barbecue and watching the sun go down from your private patio while you grill your local grass-fed beef and fresh veggies grown on the property. Later you can take your wine glasses with you as you stroll around the ranch and visit with all the animals. So hang up your hat and take off your boots. Its time to relax and unwind at Wagon Wheel Ranch!

A perfect getaway
My husband and I took our 3 four-legged kids with us to visit Ellen at Wagon Wheel Ranch and it was a wonderful experience! The size of the apartment was surprisingly spacious and overlooked a gorgeous view of the Santa Ynez Valley along with stables of beautiful horses all while a shy border collie and chubby sweet little corgi bound about the ranch. There was a fenced in patio so our kids could enjoy outside with us more freely while we took advantage of the fire pit (there's also a gas grill available). It was a few short miles (about 10 minutes) into Solvang and even less time to downtown Santa Ynez. Ellen made check in and check out a breeze and had the place stocked with all the essentials one would need to cook an at-home meal (teas, spices, pots, pans, dishes, etc) not to mention every toiletry item you could ever think of forgetting at home. She really has taken the time to make it feel like it's a home and that it could be your home even down to the tinkering of wind chimes on the patio and that rustic worn and weathered look but in the most warm and charming way. We hope to visit Ellen's ranch again and would recommend (and did) this place to anyone who will listen to us. Lol

Beautiful property, unfortunate experience
We were expecting a relaxing, private getaway. What we got was a place under construction from the moment we arrived until 10 p.m. We couldn't relax on the patio as the workers were hanging out and had their power tools plugged in all day, not exactly safe for our small child. The owner said the work needed to be done and that the workers were being paid to be there. We also paid to be there. Long story short, we cut our stay short, departing after a single night despite planning for three. The owner said that no one else has minded the noise. On the positive side, the animals were wonderful. The highlight of our brief stay was the playful colt.

The Wagon Wheel Ranch is WONDERFUL!!
We loved our stay at the Wagon Wheel Ranch! The Barn Apartment has all the comforts of home with the added plus of acres of beautiful ranch land to stroll and wonderful animals everywhere. Our labradoodle loved visiting the dogs & horses many times a day. We stay in several vacation rentals every year during our travels and usually look for a new place if we visit an area a second time but that will not be the case with Santa Ynez. We hope to return to the Wagon Wheel Ranch next year same time. Ellen, the owner, is a delight and her ranch and animals make this a truly memorable destination! Thank you for everything, Ellen! We wish you and your fur babies all the best! Mike, Trish & Rogan

Cozy country getaway
I just spent 2 wonderful nights at this quaint little barn apartment. It was so cozy & charming! My dogs loved the fenced in patio area with the fire pit, as well as exploring the property. The kitchen is well stocked & the bed was very comfortable. If you’re so inclined, there’s a nice big tv with Netflix, Amazon , and just about every other streaming service avaible. The location is perfect 5 -10 minutes away from everything. All in all, if you enjoy rustic simplicity with a lot of charm & a fair price, this is your spot!

My name is Ellen and I am 58 years old. I am recently divorced after 30 years of marriage and I have 4 terrific kids who are not really kids anymore. I purchased this ranch just about a year ago but I have lived in the Santa Ynez Valley for over 20 years. All 4 of my kids went to the Ballard school and since then have graduated from colleges and universities and are living in California still. They visit quite frequently which I love. i have 5 dogs that I cherish and 7 horses including 4 month old Prince Albert. I show in various western disciplines including cutting, rein cow horse, team sorting and penning and western trail. My newest edition, Prince Albert (his dad is a famous cutting horse named Metallic Al) was born on Mothers Day. I love to ride, work in my garden and cook. I look forward to meeting you and your family and of course, your furry friends so get ready to kick your boots off and hang up your hat at Wagon Wheel Ranch!

Why they chose this property

I think the pictures and the view say it all. But the best part about this property is the animals that live on it.

What makes this property unique

My animals of course!
