About this property

A New Kind of Philanthropy

BEFORE BOOKING, please note, we have a strict check-in window of 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. This is to ensure your safety because the area has spotty cell service and to ensure that you will be navigating while it is still daylight. A 4WD vehicle is required to access Sophia's House. This is necessary because of the bumpy and muddy roads. There is free parking on the property.

Consider this stunning, secluded, modern house your own private world during your stay. Enjoy the open living, dining and kitchen areas looking out to magnificent Montana views. Sink into the large bed after a long hike. Cook dinner on the grill and count the stars in a way you've never been able to before, unhindered by city lights or smog. We want our guests to feel like they are living in the extraordinary Montana landscape while staying in our newest glass house, with an entire wall that opens to the great outdoors.

Erik's Ranch/Dry Creek rates include lodging and two Erik’s Montana Adventures tours (Chimney Rock and Antelope Butte Hikes). Other Erik’s Montana Adventures tours are available for an additional cost. These include trail rides, a pony lead for younger riders, a horse meet and greet offered year-round, fly fishing, whitewater rafting, and a sunset grizzly excursion. Erik's is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and families.

Beautiful Solitude
If you're looking for a quiet and beautiful mountain retreat where you will have little or no contact with other folks, this is the place. It's a little far to YNP, but so peaceful and gorgeous we were quite content to stick around and watch the everchanging sky, do a local hike and enjoy wildlife from right there when the weather was uncooperative and we chose not to drive. If you need to get away from it all and you're okay with out streaming screens, stay at Sophia's.

Stunning views!
Sophia’s house has absolutely stunning views and is a unique property! Just what we were looking for. We enjoyed meeting the staff who went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable. Everything was excellent. My wife and I would highly recommend and look forward to coming back.

Kathryn Nordberg is Founder and CEO of Erik’s Ranch & Retreats, Inc.

Kathryn Nordberg has held executive positions with organizations in technology, packaged goods and health care. She is recognized for innovative solutions to long-standing operational challenges and her ability to create positive outcomes for long-term projects with multimillion-dollar budgets. She has leadership experience in strategic and organizational planning, management, marketing, partnership development and alliances, sales, new product development and communications.

Nordberg also has an adult son with autism. She became the founding chairperson of Families for Early Autism Treatment in 1995 when no funding or early intervention programs were available in Minnesota. In 1997, she participated in bringing behavioral therapist Ivar Lovaas to Minnesota to share his Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) for early intervention with children with autism. She also challenged the Minneapolis public school system status quo, creating awareness about the lack of efficacy of its program for children with autism, laying the groundwork for the assistance available for families desiring ABA.

With Nordberg’s experience as the foundation for Erik’s Retreat, we understand the need for individual choices and how to support that. Through professionally trained staff, careful planning and communication with residents, members, and families, and the employment of innovation in everything we do, we believe that living a life of promise is within everyone’s reach. “I believe that if I can imagine it, we can achieve it.”

Why they chose this property

Erik’s Ranch is a nonprofit organization that offers upscale lodging run by young adults with autism. They are tour guides, sous chefs, ski instructors, horse groomers, and more. All for whom meaningful careers are scarce.

You are part of the solution.

When you stay with us, you’ll be in a beautiful house just 45 minutes from Yellowstone while providing living accommodations, social opportunities, and significant work for our members.

Welcome to Erik's Ranch. Where vision knows no bounds.

What makes this property unique

At Erik's Ranch, we cater to outdoor enthusiasts, skiers, hikers, stargazers and everyone in between with endless recreational activities available to you during your stay.

There are tours led by young adults with autism, nearby skiing at Bridger Bowl, Yellowstone National Park, hiking near Gallatin National Forest, world-class trophy fishing in the Yellowstone River, Chico Hot Springs, shoping and dining in old Western town Livingston, and scuba diving or ice climbing at Hyalite Canyon!
