About the property

Townhome, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)

Located high above Tucson in the exclusive Starr Pass Resort community, this newly decorated deluxe Casita offers access to this spectacular desert and mountain playground. You will be steps away from the renowned Arnold Palmer course at Starr Pass. You will enjoy the Olympic sized pool and Fitness Club located 200 feet from the Casita. Two on-site restaurants give you the choice of whether to cook or dine out.

Free shuttles are available (or you can walk) to the 5-Star J.W. Mariott Resort where you may take advantage of their Spa, shops, and Restaurants. The Signature Grill provides a daily breakfast buffet that is the best in Arizona. Foods from Italy, Spain, and France can be sampled at the renowned Primo restaurant.

The Casita features two bedrooms, two baths, kitchen, living/dining room, and a patio. Views are of the Catalina Mountains and Mt. Lemmon. The master bedroom has a king sized bed, flat panel TV, large master bath with separate shower/tub and his/her sinks. The guest bedroom has two queen sized beds, TV, DVD, Mini-Fridge, Microwave, sink, desk, and separate entrance. All new beds and bedding were installed at the beginning of 2016.

The fully equipped kitchen will delight even serious chefs with gas stove, ample food prep area, microwave, and a larger-than-average supply of cooking utensils and dishware. Extras include a deluxe juicer and coffee grinder. You may even choose to eat at the counter while seated in the Mexican style bar chairs.

The living/dining room area features leather chairs, fireplace, high beamed ceiling, 33in flat panel TV, DVD, phone, sofa bed, and Dining table for 6. Cable TV with HBO. Unlike most casitas with original decor, this casita has been totally redecorated and renovated.

The Casita complex borders scenic Tucson Mountain Park. You are only a couple miles from Suguaro National Park West and it's Desert Museum. Short drives will take you to Mt. Kitt Observatory, Tubac's art and furniture shops, Tucson's Historic 4th Street, the University of Arizona, Kirchner and Colossal Caves. You can easily make day trips to Tombstone, Sonoita, Bisbee, and Nogales on the Mexican border.

Starr Pass is truly a treasure that you should experience. It is a serene setting but offers active persons a wealth of opportunities. You can enjoy the City Lights by night and the great outdoors during the day.

About Dave McElwaine

As Boston natives we love to escape to Arizona during the harshest winter months. We love cycling, Southwestern food, and the endless sunshine.

Dave McElwaine purchased this townhome in 2005

Why Dave McElwaine chose Tucson

We bought this property because of it's incredible location in the Tucson Mountains, with access to amazing trails for hiking and biking. The proximity of the JW Mariott sealed the deal with it's restaurants and Starbucks.

What makes this townhome unique

Delightful Diversion in the Desert

  • 5 of 5

Mr. McElwaine's deluxe casita at Starr Pass Resort was a wonderful vacation for us for the entire month of June 2016. Everything we needed for a relaxing getaway was provided, included a fully furnished kitchen, comfortable living room, tv's in each of the three rooms, and patio with outstanding view of the mountains.

The location on the west side of Tucson is very convenient to most of the city and suburbs, and we were downtown or on the interstate in minutes - something you can't say about the other resorts we visited located on the north or east side of town. While wifi is not provided, we took the free Marriott shuttle several times up to the main resort and used the internet in the lobby or Starbucks. We also took advantage daily of the wonderful, large pool and exercise room mere steps from our door.

A nice surprise was the appearance of a number of desert animals visible from our patio: javelinas, deer, coyotes, road runners and many types of birds. I appeciate the fact that the designers of the complex tried to leave the desert untouched which allowed the wildlife to exist as always in spite of the development.

Dave, the owner, stopped in to check on us during our stay, giving us ideas on where to eat and what to see. His son, who lives in the vicinity, was helpful when there was a problem with the cable tv reception, and the problem was resolved quickly. The monthly charge for this 2 br, 3 ba condo was very competitive for the area and allowed us to enjoy a month here, rather than a week or two which had been our original plan. I would recommend this casita to any one of my friends looking for a long or a short stay in Tucson.

FABULOUS property and resort- Great owners!

  • 5 of 5

This casita is the best of several we have stayed in. First of all, all the beds were new. The view is amazing of the mountains. Several of the casitas we have rented face parking lots and have no view. The property was extremely well equipped, especially having three TV's and lots of kitchen items not normally found in rentals. The pool and golf club were about as close as you can get and still have maximum privacy. The Starr Pass resort is amazing with the five star JW Mariott (and Starbucks) just up the street. Many of the casitas no longer have swimming pool/gym access. We were caught by surprise last time. This property is a paying member and we had no problems replacing the key access to the pool wen it got demagnetized. The owner stopped by to make sure we all set and gave us much needed suggestions about what to see and where to dine. Love this place and will be coming back next year!

Good place to stay inTucson

  • 4 of 5

Overall a great alternative to staying in a hotel. Great value for the price, and I don't tend to use all the amenities at a hotel anyway.

Pros:

1. Good location - just west of downtown, so it is away from the city, but there is easy access if you have a car.

2. Nice layout - Bedrooms on opposite ends of condo, both have bathrooms and TV.

3. Back patio, nearby pool, washer/dryer, dishwasher

Cons:

1. Worn out kitchen equipment - the pans need be thrown out and replaced.

2. Water leak - the water main to the condo was leaking and needed to be fixed. It was address quickly, but our water had to be shut off for 4 hours. Not really in the owners control.

3. HBO listed as available, but I was unable to find it. The channel listed as HBO did not appear to be HBO.

Great location, nice accommodations, good value for 2 couples

  • 4 of 5

This was our second stay at this casita. Great access to nearby recreation. Although decor of casita is a little dated and worn (e.g. screen door, door and window coverings, carpet), the location and view overlooking Tucson and Mt. Lemon are exceptional. Great morning coffee spot on back patio. Walk to Tucson Mt. Park trailhead and nearby huge outdoor pool, restaurant, and Marriott Hotel. Lots of room and good separation for two couples.

Well-maintained, sunny casita in Starr Pass.

  • 5 of 5

Delightful casita, close to the club and pool in Starr Pass. The property is spacious, clean and well-maintained, with expansive views of the mountains at all times of day. We enjoyed daily outdoor activities under blue skies, and amidst the best desert bloom I've ever seen around Tucson.

A restful and beautiful retreat

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent an outstanding week at this casita. If you are looking for a restful spot, but one with access to every kind of activity, look no further!

Starr Pass is just removed enough from town to be quiet, yet close to everything you could imagine. It became a joke to us that nothing was more than 20 minutes away - and all very easy access. There were many times when we simply wanted to sit and relax on the back patio and take advantage of the remarkable view. I love to hike and knowing that all I had to do was walk out the door to find great trails up the road was a huge plus for me personally. Each step afforded me new sights, sounds, and vistas. There is abundant local wildlife and vegetation to look at and learn about in this beautiful place.

David is an excellent owner; he is a good communicator. Starting with the inquiry, he responds quickly and clearly. Having stayed in a number of rentals over the years, he ranks among the best in terms of responsiveness and assistance. We did seem to have one early bump in the road, but his quick reply and handling made things into a non-issue to say the least. I truly appreciated knowing that was so present and helpful. Also - the place is well furnished and welcoming in every way, extremely comfortable and homey.

Our daughter is at the U of AZ, so I have no doubt that we will return to this lovely, convenient, and well managed casita again!
