Located high above Tucson in the exclusive Starr Pass Resort community, this newly decorated deluxe Casita offers access to this spectacular desert and mountain playground. You will be steps away from the renowned Arnold Palmer course at Starr Pass. You will enjoy the Olympic sized pool and Fitness Club located 200 feet from the Casita. Two on-site restaurants give you the choice of whether to cook or dine out.

Free shuttles are available (or you can walk) to the 5-Star J.W. Mariott Resort where you may take advantage of their Spa, shops, and Restaurants. The Signature Grill provides a daily breakfast buffet that is the best in Arizona. Foods from Italy, Spain, and France can be sampled at the renowned Primo restaurant.

The Casita features two bedrooms, two baths, kitchen, living/dining room, and a patio. Views are of the Catalina Mountains and Mt. Lemmon. The master bedroom has a king sized bed, flat panel TV, large master bath with separate shower/tub and his/her sinks. The guest bedroom has two queen sized beds, TV, DVD, Mini-Fridge, Microwave, sink, desk, and separate entrance. All new beds and bedding were installed at the beginning of 2016.

The fully equipped kitchen will delight even serious chefs with gas stove, ample food prep area, microwave, and a larger-than-average supply of cooking utensils and dishware. Extras include a deluxe juicer and coffee grinder. You may even choose to eat at the counter while seated in the Mexican style bar chairs.

The living/dining room area features leather chairs, fireplace, high beamed ceiling, 33in flat panel TV, DVD, phone, sofa bed, and Dining table for 6. Cable TV with HBO. Unlike most casitas with original decor, this casita has been totally redecorated and renovated.

The Casita complex borders scenic Tucson Mountain Park. You are only a couple miles from Suguaro National Park West and it's Desert Museum. Short drives will take you to Mt. Kitt Observatory, Tubac's art and furniture shops, Tucson's Historic 4th Street, the University of Arizona, Kirchner and Colossal Caves. You can easily make day trips to Tombstone, Sonoita, Bisbee, and Nogales on the Mexican border.

Starr Pass is truly a treasure that you should experience. It is a serene setting but offers active persons a wealth of opportunities. You can enjoy the City Lights by night and the great outdoors during the day.

About Dave McElwaine

As Boston natives we love to escape to Arizona year round. We love cycling, Southwestern food, and the endless sunshine. In the summer the mornings are cool and you better bring a sweater to dinner once the sun goes down!

Dave McElwaine purchased this townhome in 2005

Why Dave McElwaine chose Tucson

We bought this property because of it's incredible location in the Tucson Mountains, with access to amazing trails for hiking and biking. The proximity of the JW Mariott sealed the deal with it's restaurants and Starbucks.

What makes this townhome unique

Closest resort community to the airport and downtown Tucson which has been going through a renaissance the past few year!!

Our stay exceeded expectations

  • 5 of 5

We stayed a week at the casita and thoroughly enjoyed it.

The casita is spacious and comfortably furnished (including plenty of towels and hangers.)

As others have mentioned, the location is perfect. I also appreciated how private and quiet it was.

I love Star Pass but the casita is very tired and needs redecorating

  • 3 of 5

The location is awesome but the casita itself needs some work. The carpet has many spots. The TV in the double room doesn't work. The screen door in the front has holes in it. The view is wonderful. It could be a show place with some new furniture and carpet. They also need more glassses

spacious with many kitchen supplies

  • 5 of 5

Several things we loved about this home:

Lots of basic cooking supplies: spices, baking soda, olive oil, salt and pepper , butter, mustard & ketchup and many, many more.

Spacious bedrooms with large bathrooms.

Lovely patio and wild natural landscape to watch birds, gila woodpecker, gambel's quail, javelinas, and coyote.

A few things could be updated or fixed but they didn't keep us from having a wonderful time in a friendly place. It had a lovely mountain view and great hiking trails.

The owner was quick to reply to any needs we had.

We highly recommend this VRBO.

A Great Christmas Vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our family rented casita #5 and found it to be a perfect fit for our vacation. It was close to the pool/hot tub which we used after hiking on the many trails in the area. We also were within walking distance of the golf clubhouse where we had some very good BBQ, albeit a bit pricey.

We had a few problems when we arrived- the heat wasn't working in the spare bedroom and the microwave handle had been broken. I sent a quick email to Dave and he responded promptly and arrived at our door to see if he could fix the problems. We left for the day and when we had come back, the heating problem was fixed and so was the microwave oven handle! Talk about service with a smile!

I would highly recommend this lovely casita for people who love the outdoors and want to be close to a multitude of challenging hiking/biking trails.

Delightful Diversion in the Desert

  • 5 of 5

Mr. McElwaine's deluxe casita at Starr Pass Resort was a wonderful vacation for us for the entire month of June 2016. Everything we needed for a relaxing getaway was provided, included a fully furnished kitchen, comfortable living room, tv's in each of the three rooms, and patio with outstanding view of the mountains.

The location on the west side of Tucson is very convenient to most of the city and suburbs, and we were downtown or on the interstate in minutes - something you can't say about the other resorts we visited located on the north or east side of town. While wifi is not provided, we took the free Marriott shuttle several times up to the main resort and used the internet in the lobby or Starbucks. We also took advantage daily of the wonderful, large pool and exercise room mere steps from our door.

A nice surprise was the appearance of a number of desert animals visible from our patio: javelinas, deer, coyotes, road runners and many types of birds. I appeciate the fact that the designers of the complex tried to leave the desert untouched which allowed the wildlife to exist as always in spite of the development.

Dave, the owner, stopped in to check on us during our stay, giving us ideas on where to eat and what to see. His son, who lives in the vicinity, was helpful when there was a problem with the cable tv reception, and the problem was resolved quickly. The monthly charge for this 2 br, 3 ba condo was very competitive for the area and allowed us to enjoy a month here, rather than a week or two which had been our original plan. I would recommend this casita to any one of my friends looking for a long or a short stay in Tucson.

FABULOUS property and resort- Great owners!

  • 5 of 5

This casita is the best of several we have stayed in. First of all, all the beds were new. The view is amazing of the mountains. Several of the casitas we have rented face parking lots and have no view. The property was extremely well equipped, especially having three TV's and lots of kitchen items not normally found in rentals. The pool and golf club were about as close as you can get and still have maximum privacy. The Starr Pass resort is amazing with the five star JW Mariott (and Starbucks) just up the street. Many of the casitas no longer have swimming pool/gym access. We were caught by surprise last time. This property is a paying member and we had no problems replacing the key access to the pool wen it got demagnetized. The owner stopped by to make sure we all set and gave us much needed suggestions about what to see and where to dine. Love this place and will be coming back next year!
