Overview

About the property

Cottage, 1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 1-2)

Artist/writer's simple, rustic, painted wooden cottage sits right behind the dune on Hope Town's quiet and beautiful sandy ocean beach. Totally private, it is surrounded by silver buttonwood, Hawaiian sea grape and palms.

There is a deck for outdoor eating with table, four chairs and a large umbrella. Two Adirondack chairs are perched on the dune from which to watch the sun rise over the ocean.

The cottage has an enclosed dining porch; bedroom with queen-sized bed; shower, W.C. and clothes storage area; and a small den with TV, video and CD players. The newly fitted kitchen is four steps across the deck in a separate cabin It has a full-size gas stove; fridge with freezer area; microwave; toaster oven; and stainless steel double sink with Corian-type work surfaces. There is also an outdoor shower on the deck, and area for clothes drying.

There are ceiling fans in all rooms; the bedroom has an air-conditioning unit, which is seldom needed because of ocean breezes. Everywhere is hand-painted, rustic, colourful and characterful. Not for you if you want modern and shiny. This is an idyllic, secluded old beach retreat with mod cons., full of character, yet only one minute's walk from Vernon's Grocery and all the amenities of the settlement.

Unless it is high season you will generally have the beach to yourself. Fall asleep to only the sound of the ocean.

peaceful paradise

  • 5 of 5

I have just returned from an idyllic month in Annie's Skyward cottage and could not be more pleased. The cottage is charmingly rustic and as far from the hustle of a resort as one can get. The views are breathtaking and life here is simple and peaceful. We spent our time searching for treasure on the lovely beach, pulling wahoo from the sea with Local Boy Charters, and a big night out was bingo at the village pub. The cottage is steps from all the village has to offer but as private as one could hope for. Excellent for a romantic getaway. Thank you Annie. You are a wonderful host.

No Stars For This One

  • 1 of 5

I cannot imagine anyone giving this place 5 stars. The photos are deceptive. The place is dirty and dingy. There is no mention of a 3 story house that shares the property. The sliding glass entry door is next to impossible ot open or close. The deck is rotten. The furniture is disgusting and should be trashed. The only positive in this place is the view of the ocean from the dune. I have had many vacations through VRBO and they have always been positive and well represented. I feel I was deceived by the photos and the allegedly 5 star reviews.

Ideal

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent 10 extremely peaceful days at Annie's Skyward Cottage in November, just as the islands were preparing for the holidays and start of tourist season. The cottage is tucked into the backside of a dune on the Atlantic Ocean side, buffered from any winds by the dune, palms, and shrubs. The kitchen, a few steps from the cottage, is equipped with everything you need; refrigerator, stove/oven, toaster, microwave, coffee pots, and utensils. The cottage hosts the bedroom, bathroom, and sitting/TV room, and is stocked with many books, from fiction to local (I suggest the "History of an Out Island and its Cays" and "The Long Day Wanes") (and wifi covers the cottage and kitchen if you need a download). The interconnecting deck includes a pair of Adirondack Chairs overlooking the Atlantic and the beach (great place to start the morning). The beach is long and beautiful, quiet, gives up its sea glass, very swim-able, and depending on wind direction, good for SUPping or Surfing. The town is only about 100 yards down a sandy path, the harbor another 50 yards farther, meaning food, drink, bike/cart/boat rentals are steps away. The cottage could not be more ideal for balancing a little peace and quiet, with all the convenience of access to the island's amenities when the mood strikes. Remember to look skyward at night, the stars are beautiful. Thank you Annie for being a great host!

Awesome and Romantic

  • 5 of 5

The cottage was just perfect for the two of us and you cannot beat the location - right on the beach! This was our second time to Hopetown, we liked it so much the first time that we came back for two full weeks. The cottage was centrally located in town so we were close to everything, but our beach seemed so private. Waking up in the morning and having coffee on the deck overlooking the ocean is heaven. We would definitely recommend this cottage to all and hope to stay there next time we go back.

An amazing getaway

  • 5 of 5

We are just finishing up an amazing vacation at Annie's Skyward cottage in the dunes. The place is on a spectacular beach but is nestled in the dunes out of the wind. You can walk to anything in town in a few minutes and yet it's extremely private. You have more than you need for kitchen facilities and a separate TV room with great cable options. It makes a perfect home base for seeing the island.

Annie could not have been a better host. We will be back for sure.

Cottage in Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We arrived on a Friday afternoon to stay for 6 days and we couldn't be happier with our choice! For people who aren't neccessarily into the resort type of vacation this offers an incredible alternative but still provides the comforts of home. The cottage its self is rustic and cozy, but still has available wifi, television and a kitchen with a small barbeque. This place is right on the beach, and when I say right on the beach, I mean you can throw a rock into the ocean from the porch. There's a nice spot to sit and watch the sunset perched on top of the dune that leads down to the beach and we spent many nights doing just that. The location is perfect, secluded enough that you can't hear any of the noise from town, not that there is any; but close enough to walk to all of the local restaurants and bars in under 5 minutes. If you are there throughout the week, make sure you don't miss Bingo on Monday nights at Capt'n Jacks, nor the Karoke at the Hopetown lodge. We very much enjoyed our time, and Ann was a lovely host. We hope to make it back to Hopetown again very soon and will always remember the friendly smiles and waves from locals and tourists alike. We would highly recommend this vacation rental, and at the price quoted, you really can't beat it!
