Vacation in Paradise. If you love the outdoors this is the place for you. The property is located at the foot of the Caribbean Rain Forest ( El Yunque). This beautiful penthouse unit has 3 spacious bedrooms. Our third floor unit has a balcony with a terrace above that has a great view of the Caribbean. The complex is beachfront, has outdoor pool, tennis court, basketball court, playground and has 24 hour security. It is in a quaint fishing village of Playa Hucares which is in the town of Naguabo and has local restaurants that serve fresh seafood and local cuisine. It feels like paradise with the conveniences of home. Go fishing, golfing, swimming, kayaking, horseback riding, hiking, or take a ferry from Fajardo (10-15 minute drive) to one of two islands (Vieques, Culebra) and spend the day snorkeling, scuba diving or sunbathing. Visit the nearby casino or shop in stores like JC Penney, Sams Club, Wal-Mart, or just catch a movie. Don't forget to spend the day sightseeing or shopping in San Juan.
Hiking/Kayak/Water Parks: If you like nature trails spend the day hiking the rain forest (El Yunque). You will find water falls with swimming holes to refresh yourself.
There is a natural bio-tour reserve a few minutes south where you can kayak in brackish creeks which lead to the ocean. There you'll find many types of birds and iguanas in this Humacao Wildlife Refuge.
The Ceiba Forest is just a few minutes north and has mangrooves and manatees.
There is a family water park in Salinas (Parque Olympico) which is approx 30 min southwest.
Like golfing? There are two great courses nearby. El Conquistador in Fajardo is just 10-15 min north on Route 3 and Palmas De Mar in Humacao 10 minute drive south with several great courses.
Beaches /Islands: Cala de Hucares is a beachfront community and has access to its own beach. But if you prefer more activity there are several beautiful beaches nearby. Luquillo Beach (10 mins north) is rated one of the most beautiful beaches of Puerto Rico. This destination boasts dozens of lunch kiosks and offers horseback riding. Just a few minutes south is Punta Santiago where you'll find delicious restaurants, public beaches and a small water park.
There are ferries that depart from Fajardo that will take you to 2 beautiful islands (Vieques, Culebra) where you can spend a day and have fun snorkeling, scuba diving or swimming. Vieques also features a bio-luminescent bay which contains the highest concentration (750K/gallon of water) of dino-flagellates which emit a beautiful blue light when disturbed. There is an evening tour pontoon boat out of Fajardo transporting guests to this bio-bay which is a must-do experience.

About Dalia Kaye
We are a family of four and live in NJ. We have family who live in Puerto Rico and we love to visit them as often as we can. Our reason for purchasing this lovely condo was to have a comfortable place to stay whenever we visit our family and to introduce our children to what life is like in Puerto Rico. They love the area and the fun attractions like fishing, the beaches, hiking the rain forest and especially the food!
Dalia Kaye purchased this Condo in 2005

Great owners - older condo that is roomy but the condo is more roadside than beachfront
I give it a 3 because the owner, Glenn was so kind and spend a lot of time on the phone providing details of activities to do in PR (e.g., El Yunque rainforest, Luquilla Beach, Camuy Cavernas) to make our stay enjoyable.
The condo is older, but we had plenty of space, clean on arrival, walkable to the local town, and had all the towels (bath and beach)/beach equipment we needed. We were expecting a family vacation in Puerto Rico away from the city noise. However, the condo is located right on a major road (and next to the security entrance - which is where some cars turn around) - which meant traffic noise and even louder music from the cars that kept us up throughout the night every night! I am a very heavy sleeper, but woke up every hour on the hour nearly every night.
Although we did not get a lot of sleep, this served as a nice home base for all of our adventures in beautiful Puerto Rico!
Beautiful setting with all the comforts of home!
When we rented this property, we weren't looking for a vacation destination. We needed to be in Puerto Rico for two weeks to help a relative who is seriously ill, and we needed affordable accommodations for our family of five. But two weeks at Cala de Hucares was like an escape to an tropical paradise and we'd give it 6 or 7 stars if we could! Since we went off season during the middle two weeks of September, we had the entire building to ourselves. The rest of the complex was sparsely occupied and we only saw one other family on the private beach on one of the days we were there, not counting the crane that would visit and stroll down the shoreline from time to time. Although far from pristine (Puerto Rican beaches are not swept free of litter and maintained as are beaches in the US), the warm water and swaying palms more than made up for the debris on the ground, and I also harvested quite a treasure trove of sea glass during our stay. Our kids loved both the pool downstairs and going out to the balcony to take in the gorgeous view. The washer and dryer, satellite TV, Wi-Fi and well-stocked kitchen were lifesavers, and we found all of the dishes and cookware we could ever need. The clean, well-furnished apartment doesn't have central air, but the individual units in the bedrooms were more than adequate for cooling. They also were a good source of white noise to drown out the sounds of booming stereos and traffic passing by outside the complex at night. (Loud music is a cultural norm and is heard pretty much everywhere on the island.) Playa Santiago is a popular hangout for the locals with authentic atmosphere and cuisine. And the fact that Humacao is only 10 miles away and has a plaza that includes Wal-Mart, Radio Shack and a grocery store was a huge convenience. We would enthusiastically recommend this property to everyone. The Kayes are gracious and responsive hosts and went above and beyond to make our trip comfortable and affordable. Staying in this picturesque location made a potentially taxing situation much less stressful, and we plan to reach out to them again the next time that family responsibilities bring us the island. We didn't go to Naguabo expecting to be on vacation, but thanks to Glenn and Dalia, we felt like we were!
Great location, comfortable, great price
Our 7 night stay was wonderful. Naguabo is a great location - it's a small town in a location convenient to El Yunque, Luquillo and not too far from the airport and San Juan.
The condo was very comfortable and met all of our needs. The kitchen had everything - even a blender for some mango smoothies. The pool was an added bonus. We felt perfectly safe and secure.
The small private beach on the property is beautiful. From there, you can see Cayo Santiago - a small island also nicknamed "Monkey Island". Less than 1 mile away, from the Naguabo Pier (Malecón de Naguabo), we chartered a small boat and were able to take a day trip to this island to see it up close and do some snorkeling. Paco was our captain and made the trip a blast - http://lapaseodora.yolasite.com/
Luquillo and Farjardo have some beautiful beaches that are very close. El Yunque is close as well and a great place to explore if you like to hike.
The condo is in a perfect location from where you can explore and find and do just about anything that Puerto Rico has to offer.
Glenn and Dalia were great hosts and were a great resource for ideas and suggestions to make our stay as enjoyable and comfortable as possible. Our only complaint is that we wished we could have stayed longer.
When we return, this place will be at the top of our list.
Spacious, well equipped apartment close to the sea
We had a wonderful week in this apartment in Cala de Hucares! We had a lot of sunshine and swimming in the sea and pool. The pool was very close to the apartment and the sea only one minute walk away. There were wonderful waves in the sea, it gave us a lot of fun. We really appreciated the Internet and it worked very well. We were very satisfied with the new equipment and we used the kitchen a lot. One nice detail was the window from the kitchen to the balcony where we had almost all our meals, it saved may steps!
The guards where very accommodating and helpful. A big favour was the ocean views and the spacious apartment with two bathrooms. We used the roof terrace to a few dinners and could see the stars and moon and we enjoyed the pleasant warmth.
We are so pleased to hear from our guests upon their return about their experience and specifically the features of our accommodations which they found most helpful and enjoyable.
This guest was our first ever from Norway and they told us that when they returned to their country at the end of December the temperature was -10 degrees C. We don't blame them when they told us they can't wait for summer!
Should these guests decide to come back and stay with us again to escape the frigid Norway winter we are happy to offer a substantial discount to all return guests.
Wonderful vacation, Great Place to stay!!!
First of all, the description of the property was definitely accurate. Beautiful apt and spacious rooms. All the amenities of home. My husband and I came to visit PR to see family. We had a beautiful time. The directions were accurate and the shopping area & restaurants are minutes away. It was wonderful dealing with the property owner, Glenn. Very friendly and always available to answer any questions I had . We will definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Very nice property complete with all amenities. Kitchen well stocked with all appliances for cooking at "home." Close to a small town that's very alive at night. In the process of completing the boardwalk which will be very nice! Pool is nice and clean. Big private rooftop patio. The owner was extremely pleasant to work with. Very professional very nice and willing to work with me! Thank you!
Cala de Hucares is nestled between the mountains and the caribbean ocean. All the views are beautiful. On a clear day you can see Mono (Monkey) island and Vieques which is right off the coast of Naguabo. You can tour for the day or just relax in the pool or beach. There are festivals all year long in Naguabo with music, food and live entertainment. The rain forest is your neighbor. Spend the day exploring it and find the water falls . If you like sailing and fishing you can rent a boat for the day out of the Marina in Fajardo. And of course shopping is always close by. While you are exploring enjoy the different flavors of the island and taste the local cuisine. Puerto Rico has a lot of history and you can tour many of their forts such as El Morro which is in San Juan and one not to be missed. Bring your comfy shoes and lots of water. Other Activities: hiking, kayaking Golf: There are two golf resorts in the area both about a 15 minute drive. The one to the north is part of El Conquistador with a full casino. The one to the south is part of Las Palmas, Four Seasons Hotel with a casino as well.
