Casita del Bosque: Stunning Pool, Architecturally Outstanding, Minutes to Beach

Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 1 Bath, Sleeps 2. Three more Separate Bedrooms (w/ Bathrooms) avail.

Location: Los Barriles, East Cape of Southern Baja, Baja California Sur, Mexico.

Make sure you click on More Details below for rates and room configurations if you need more than just one bedroom! For Nov 15-23, 2017 only one casita available. For Dec 22-26, 2017 only one casita available. For Dec 26-Jan 1, not available. For Jan 1-8, 2018 only one casita available.

This enchanting, private and peaceful property is a quality constructed classic Mexican colonial-style two bedroom home, Hacienda Palo Blanco, with two additional one-bedroom casitas, Casita Palo Blanco and Casita del Bosque. It was designed and built in harmony with the secluded Mexican woods. It is the largest home with the largest pool in this upscale area called Palo Blanco.

This quiet retreat with wi-fi overlooks the San Bartolo arroyo and has views of the nearby mountain ranges and is a 5 minute drive from the traditional sleepy town of Los Barriles where you can explore restaurants, gift and grocery stores.

Guests enjoy the luxurious pool and jetted hot tub with stunning mountain and ocean views. Relax in a hammock under the outdoor palapa and cook your meals on the outdoor barbecue grill or in your own kitchen.

The beautiful and pristine beaches are why many people escape to Los Barriles, with one of the world's best beaches for kiteboarding and wind-surfing being a short and easy walk from Hacienda Palo Blanco, Casita Palo Blanco and Casita del Bosque.

The property sits on two lots, so there is plenty of space to roam and explore: from the dropoff at the edge of the arroyo to the fenced and gated fruit tree grove that is great for containing children while you relax. See more at our website (we are updating the site we got from the previous sellers, so ignore any for sale references).

Please read the following descriptions carefully:

Our property has three separate rentals: the main house (with one or two bedrooms) and two separate casitas, each having one bedroom with a kitchen and a bathroom and a sitting area. (There is a total of four bedrooms on the property with five bathrooms and three kitchens).

The following rental options are available:

1. Casita del Bosque is a one-bedroom casita renting for $125/night and it sleeps 2.

2. Casita Palo Blanco is also a one-bedroom casita. It rents for $145/night. It is called the apartment on our website. There is an option to add a second bedroom with its own bathroom when renting Casita Palo Blanco for an additional $55/night.

3. Hacienda Palo Blanco is the main house, which can be rented as a one bedroom rental (for $175/night) or as a two bedroom rental (for $220/night). Hacienda Palo Blanco has a large kitchen, a large dining room, a separate large living room and extensive rooftop decks for the exclusive use of Hacienda renters. There is a large outdoor eating and sitting area that is for your private use as well. You can add more bedrooms when renting the two-bedroom main house by also renting the casitas at a discount (at $100/night each). So, should you want the two-bedroom main house with three bedrooms, the rent is $320/night. Should you want the entire property, all four bedrooms, this brings the cost to $420/night.

The automatic quote you will receive from VRBO is $125/night plus the 16% government tax plus the refundable security deposit of $250 and is only for the one bedroom Casita del Bosque that sleeps two. Please review the above pricing schedule should you have additional guests and need additional bedrooms.

A 50% deposit is needed to guarantee your reservation. We will provide a detailed quote once you let us know how many guests and how many bedrooms you will require for your get-away.

About Kevin and Beata

Our friend Pamela built and sold Hacienda Palo Blanco, so when we found out it was on the market again, we couldn't pass it up. We know the care and attention to detail that she put into this unique place, and feel so lucky to call it our Baja home away from the polar vortices we suffer from in Chicago. Dr. Kevin and Dr. Beata

Kevin and Beata purchased this house in 2014

Why Kevin and Beata chose Los Barriles

When we travel to Baja, we like to surround ourselves with a place that is architecturally interesting. Sure, we can find places that remind us of home or that resemble generic hotel décor, and they can be nice. Casita El Bosque and our home, la Hacienda Palo Blanco, were built by our designer friend in a contemporary Spanish architectural style that is unparalleled in its attention to detail. It is quaint, quiet and romantic with room to roam. Step in to another world...

What makes this house unique

Fenced and gated fruit tree grove where you can relax while your children explore.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Such a beautiful spot! We have visited the lovely town of Los Barriles several times before and this was our first stay in Casita El Bosque. It is even prettier than the online photos. The pool and hot tub were greatly appreciated after a busy day fishing and we loved cooking in the outdoor kitchen and watching the sunset. Peaceful and private. We're looking forward to our next visit.

Just outside of town--nice and quiet.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I just spent a great 10 days at the casita. It was very comfortable with everything we needed. It's a very quiet neighborhood and the grounds are just beautiful. We had the whole place to ourselves!

The management company was very helpful whenever we had a question.

Great place for family vacation

  • 4 of 5

We had a hotel booked in Cabo for a week and wanted something quieter for the first week of our vacation. This place was perfect. While a very short drive to town, beach, and very good restaurants, it was very quiet and felt very far away. The bedrooms had AC and the kitchen had all the basics, plus a great BBQ area near the pool. The living room was large and very nice, but we stopped even opening the door after a couple of days because all we did was swim and eat outside. You will probably fight over who gets the hammock under the palapa where I spent most of my time. Even when it was hot you could get wet in the pool and the breeze in the hammock would cool you down. Kevin responded quickly and was very helpful. His kids are around the same age as ours so he left out some baby/kid stuff for our convenience. We would highly recommend this place and are talking to a few friends and family about renting the whole place in the future. The only word of caution I have is that the description of the two-bedroom house is a bit misleading. The rooms are not connected on the inside, they all open to the outside. This is a great layout and what we loved about the house but if we left our 3 and 6 year old in one they would need to go out to the back yard where the pool is, upstairs, and around a corner to get to our bedroom. We ended up sleeping in one room together and not using the other one. This place is great and I highly recommend it, just a heads up if you have small children. If you don't the setup is better than a traditional house because it adds that much more privacy.

As advertised! Plus an extra sumthin' sumthin'...

  • 1 of 5

Lovely hideaway. All previous reviews are spot on describing this location and its amenities. And our family thoroughly enjoyed the place. The property management crew (Wolf, in Los Barriles) are top notch, helpful, and very professional. However we cannot recommend that anyone stay here as your money goes to the owner who was the only blight to an otherwise excellent week. As described, the dining area does accommodate 16 people and we hosted a reunion with family and friends, dinner at 7pm, a lively series of card games at the wonderful outdoor table, with everyone having left around 1030 that evening. The next morning, the owner called my wife and began to berate her, yelling over the phone, about how we threw a wild party and trashed the place. Not once did he (sorry... the doctor; he'll remind you a couple times, bless his heart) ask us any questions about what happened or get our version of events. The property management arrived within 15 minutes and he thoroughly checked every room, kitchen, pool/hot tub and yard to show that we indeed did not damage or spoil any part of the property. We loved Los Barriles and found many more exciting and wondrous places to stay for our next trip.

Owner's Response: Since I wasn't there, let me share with you some of the numerous complaints from my neighbors that I received via email and text about you, as well as my management company’s comments about your review. Stuff in quotes is from neighbors: "Sorry to bother you, but it looks like a big party is starting up at your place, 25 or so people so far. Getting loud over there." At no time were you authorized to invite anybody to our home, whatever the number. You are supposed to ask permission to more than quadruple the number of guests for which you contracted, which was four. "Super drunk, loud and smoking pot. Personally I don't care, but not sure how the laws in Mexico are about such things. They had many people there arriving on ATVs. Then, they decided to go racing up and down the road, into the arroyo below the houses causing all kinds of noise and dust. Your area where you park has donut marks all over it from them running their ATVs in fast circles there. Lots of young, loud, drunk men, which is usually a cause for concern." Who are these people you illegally brought into my home? "They were going at it until 11:30 or so,” according to my neighbor. My management company also confirmed that you personally told them that the party went to at least 11:30, not 10:30 as you claim in order to make you look better in your review. “This was way worse than those inconsiderate people back in December. The neighbor on the opposite side of us, Carol, was very pissed as well. Also, the couple that own the two houses on the left just before you drop into the arroyo (well over a two blocks away) were pissed. The couple tried to slow them down as the (expletives deleted) were racing up and down the residential roads, but the people on the ATVs just gave them an f-off look and kept on racing. They also nearly ran over one of our friends that was walking on the road. Very dangerous. Deb and Sandy also were bothered by the noise. So, basically, they pissed off the entire neighborhood." "And there were way more than 16 people there." So, besides misrepresenting the truth in your review, you were inconsiderate and dangerous to my neighbors. Without permission, you invited to my home more than the four people I agreed to rent to and hosted a disruptive party with unruly and rude people and greatly upset my neighbors. I did not expect to be taken advantage of by such inconsiderate and immature individuals.

Stunning home and enchanting place!

  • 5 of 5

I spent the holidays (9 days) at this incredible home with my husband and our 5 kids ages 17-25. We rented out the whole property which included the main house, the apartment and the casita. It fit us perfectly and better yet, provided plenty of both togetherness and private time. The architecture is truly magical. That word seems overused but it is true. You must keep your eyes open for all the details... the Mexican tiles, the creative spaces and the unusual & unique features abound. It is truly Mexican in nature with most rooms not connected to each other, but opening to the outside. The location was also great if you are craving some quiet and privacy. It's about a 15-20 minute walk to the beach... but it's perfect. There are also beautiful views and I got up each morning for the sunrise over the Sea of Cortez. In addition, the staff was great and responsive to our needs. We also had meals brought in 4 times, which were wonderful! They quietly served us delicious food and then cleaned up! What a treat. I'd also recommend you rent 4-wheelers to get around. It's the preferred method of travel in the quiet and quaint town of Los Barriles. We loved it and will definitely return. Thank you for your beautiful home!

Magical Place

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at a truly remarkable property. The casita was very well equipped with everything one could need for a short or extended stay, had most importantly offered a very comfortable bed. The rest of the property is absolutely magical. From the casita we had a view towards the ocean, where we were gently awakened by the sunrise each morning. The rooftop patio on another building offered unparallelled sunset vistas, with both ocean and arroyo/mountain views. A perfect spot for a glass of wine after a tough day of lounging by the beautiful pool and hot tub. The wood fire BBQ was also a great spot to grill a steak while watching the sunset, or hanging out at the pool. We did manage to leave the property occasionally to explore the area. Great spot for a base, but just as great to simply enjoy the beauty of the grounds. The spring birds were making daily arrivals when we were there, each day bringing yet another new bird. The property management company were there daily to ensure that the pool and grounds were maintained, and everything was working to our satisfaction - they were very welcoming. The Wifi worked everywhere on the property, which was a real bonus to be able to do email by the pool! The arroyo is absolutely fascinating to watch, with always something to see, and the ever changing colors offer fantastic photo opportunities. The overall effect, is complete relaxation and a sense of tranquility. Our only regret is not being able to stay longer, and hope to return again soon.

Owner's Response: We're delighted that your first visit was so wonderful. More converts falling under the spell of Casita El Bosque! Our guests agree that this property is a splendid destination all by itself -you can swim lengths in the pool, read a book while swaying in the hammock under the palapa, soak in the steaming hot tub, stroll through the tropical fruit orchard, play a game of horseshoes or even go on a nature walk! But it also provides an excellent base for those day trips out to Cabo San Lucas, Todos Santos or Cabo Pulmo. We appreciate your kind words and look forward to seeing you again soon!

Great base for exploring

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from staying at this lovely casita. What a gorgeous spot. Located a little north of town, it provided the quiet and privacy we were looking for. An authentic Mexican experience with all the comforts of home. It provided excellent value for the money. This was our first booking with vrbo and the owner was very helpful in answering all our questions. We loved everything about it from the comfortable bed to the neat architectural details to the beautiful gardens. A really special place.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the compliments. We're glad our guests feel so at home in the casita. We're especially pleased since this was your first experience with a vrbo property and you didn't really know what to expect. The system worked! We have very professional, responsible and friendly property managers who are your main point of contact during your visit and I know they were helpful in suggesting great restaurants, local attractions and places to rent quads. We look forward to seeing you again.
