About the property

Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 10)

We are a destination spot for snowmobiling, skiing, snowshoeing, four-wheeling, hiking, biking, and year-round vacations. This evergreen retreat is a new (2007) handcrafted log cabin, with three floors and three wrap around outside decks. There's a large mud room with in floor heat to dry out all your outdoor gear. The Cabin is located on 15 acres, with plenty of parking room. It backs up to an all purpose trail (North Freda, Trail #121-ATV/snowmobile trail.)

Were only 5 miles outside of Houghton MI, off of a blacktop road, but this is where the blacktop ends. There are only woods & rivers for eight miles until you reach Lake Superior. This setting will let you enjoy the outdoors right out of your door.

Call or e-mail for more details or visit our website. From there you can check out what our area has to offer. The National Weather Channel rates the Upper Peninsula of Michigan as No. 6 in its top-10 list of Winter Family Get-ways.

Why The Owner chose Michigan

This was a family project building this Log Cabin, which may someday be our retirement home. It all started with the farmer living on this land 45 years ago planning 8 acres of red pine. Those high standing red pine (44 out of 800)are now laying sideways making up the walls of the Log Cab-Inn.

Great cabin, quiet in nature surrounded by trees and birds

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time in this cabin. We loved the porch around three sides of the house where you could always find the sun or shade at any time of the day. Enjoyed the quiet and the singing of the birds while reading and having my coffee. Supermarkets are 10 min away. The towns Houghton and Hancock give some fun things to do (15 - 20 min. drive), have some good local restaurants and coffee shops and are beautifully located along the big canal. A must stop is K.C. Bonkers Toys and Coffee in Hancock. This place is a blast with the best coffee in town and fun magical soda creations that children will get a kick out of, like dragon blood with Unicorn milk! Even my 14 year old liked it, so it is not too childish. Plus you can play some great family games while drinking your coffee. We had a great brunch at Suomi restaurant with a Finnish pancake, kind of custard thick with strawberry jam and cardamom toast, yum. It is not expensive. I highly recommend to go see the sunset at McClain State Park, a scenic drive from Hancock going East. We also toured the peninsula one day, Calumet is a neat town to visit, go to Connie's Kitchen to try a local Pasty. Then we took the scenic Brockway Mountain Drive, which was not scenic at all, until you get to the top with a beautiful view of the lake and surroundings. Driving down to Copper Harbor you have some more small scenic parking spots. Copper Harbor is very small, we were frankly not impressed but also tired of touring the whole day. It does seem to be a great place for some biking and hiking and possibly kayaking. The drive along the lake shore on the North -East was also very beautiful. There was plenty more to explore, but we did not have enough time, plus we also enjoyed staying at the cabin and breathing in the fresh air and enjoying the calm. They also have a sauna if you like that. The master bedroom is in the basement, it has a concrete floor with many rugs on it. The kids slept in a roomy loft with two queen beds on the bottom of the bunk beds which was a great place for them. I am sure you will have a good time here.

Great place to stay!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for a week over Christmas. The cabin is as portrayed and we just loved it. It had great snowmobile trail access (off Freda loop). Also it's close to Houghton if you need to get to town. Parking was awesome we had a 30' trailer we got in just fine. We really lover leaving our snowmobile clothes downstairs on the heated floor. It dried quick and was toasty when we put it on. We'll definitely return!

Hidden Gem

We truly enjoyed our stay at the Log Cab-inn. It was the perfect spot for our MTU student to stay with us and have some quality family time. The kitchen worked perfect for preparing some of his favorite meals that he had been missing. We found the cabin clean, comfortable and a great location. Close enough to campus and other attractions, but in a quiet location perfect for relaxing. We spent quite a bit of time on the wrap around porch. The sunset was gorgeous from there and the yard had an amazing view for star gazing. Owners were pleasant to work with and responded quickly to my emails. We look forward to returning several times over the next four years.

Love the Pines

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I like to come to Houghton, MI to mountain bike the Michigan Tech Trails and rather than stay in a hotel we tried out this Cabin. It was great, lots of outdoor space to take walks and bike around the ATV trails.

Cabin is clean, water pressure for shower is perfect, location worked well for us.

Owners respond quickly to all inquiries and are very friendly. There may not be a lot of reviews here on VRBO however there are a few books of "guest comments" at the Cabin and all are terrific, was fun to read through them.

We will definitely be back!

Thanks so much for a nice place to stay while in the UP!!!

Michigan Tech Family

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at the Log Cabin Inn October 2010 so we could have a "home" while attending Parent Weekend at Tech. Lovely! Comfortable, well equipped - we grilled, we baked and enjoyed time with our son. The trail is right in the back yard. Coming from WA state we were enthralled with the beautiful fall color all around.

Close to town, easy drive. We caught a van/taxi at the airport and he took us out there.
