The location of the cabin was perfect for what we were wanting. We didn’t have plans to venture out much, other than to see Raystown Lake, which was 5 minutes away. Even though it’s so close to a campground, it felt very secluded and was quiet and peaceful.
The driveway was a little challenging, and we felt it should probably have been mentioned in the listing or in the email communications. We have an SUV, and spun tires all the way up, on dry ground. We had family visiting for dinner, and they all had the same issue. We definitely would never stay here in the winter! The view from the cabin may have made up for the tricky driveway though. Absolutely beautiful!
The inside of the cabin was a tad musty smelling, and could use a better cleaning. Lots of bugs…both dead and alive, and cob webs. Since there wasn’t a pool or hot tub, the kids were looking forward to sitting in the jetted tub, but changed their mind when they saw all the spiders in it. We realize it’s a mountain cabin and not a 5 star hotel, but we’ve stayed in a lot of cabins…a few cleaner, a few a little more “rustic”. It’s hard to know what they’ll be like just by the pictures. We’ve been to ones that we chose to not stay in once we arrived because they were so bad. This one wasn’t that bad. I think we were just expecting it to be cleaner, since we were told we couldn’t check in an hour early because the cleaning lady needed the full 5 hours to clean between the previous guests checking out and our checkin time.
We have a family of 5, and ran out of paper towels and toilet paper being there for 2 nights. Usually rentals have that stuff stocked somewhere, but we had to go to a local store to get more. We were aware that we had to bring our own linens, so that wasn’t an issue for us.
Some of the rugs could use non-slip grips underneath. We had to pick the rugs up because we kept slipping on them, and our 2 yr old actually ended up breaking his finger. Luckily it wasn’t a more serious injury, since there’s no phone service or WiFi. I suggest writing down the key code before you get there. Since we had no internet access we had to call the property manager to get our key code when we got there. It took a few tries to get the call to go through.
Overall we enjoyed our stay. The craftsmanship of the cabin was really cool. Layout a little confusing at first, and trying to figure out light switches was quite comical! The woodwork is beautiful though, and loved the bird feeder.
