About Sally Kinane

Mostly we both grew up in the Midwest but after getting married, we moved to Guam so my husband could work for the Government of Guam. After that we moved back to the midwest and between the cold and my hay fever, we decide to join some of the family and move to California. As part of our adventure of moving, we decided to build a kit house and after a search of Northern California fell in love with Pine Mountain Lake.

We built the house from 1981 to 1984 at which time we moved from the Bay Area to the house with our 3 daughters. They attended school in Groveland. Most of the time my husband worked in the Bay Area and commuted to Groveland on weekends. After the children left for college, I moved back to the Bay Area to be with my husband full time and start a new career of Library Assistant.

We did not want to loose the house so since 1999, we have been renting it out for travelers. That still allowed us to come up and spend time in the house.

Sally Kinane purchased this house in 1984

Why Sally Kinane chose Yosemite Area

We had ordered the kit house before we moved to California but had to find a lot within 2 years or our contract would expire. We explored many areas but most were too expensive or just didn't feel right. A friend of my husband's suggested looking into Pine Mountain Lake, so one weekend we went camping in Yosemite and on the way up we stopped in Sonora to check out the Pine Mountain Lake Subdivision. My husband who was a Civil Engineer and Planner wanted to check it out before we looked mainly to see if it was sewered. It was so we went to a realty company in Groveland and toured a few lots. We really fell in love with this lot. Fantastic location, green space on 2 sides and within walking distance of the beach. After our weekend in Yosemite we stopped back at the realtor and purchased the lot and never regretted it.

What makes this house unique

People enjoy visiting our house because it is so spacious and comfortable. They also like the convenience of the location. It is also a great place to use for trips to Yosemite and other attractions.

Our house is in a quiet area of Pine Mountain Lake. A ravine with a stream is across the street from the house and there is a large green space next to the lot that the association owns. Not only that but we could walk to a beach and Fisherman's Cove was even closer. The girls loved exploring the ravine and green area. As years went by, a tennis court was built across the ravine and a half basketball court and play ground was kitty corner to our house. The deer always come and visit our property and when we lived there they always would know when my roses would bloom and get the blossoms before I could see them.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Dear Sally,

What a wonderful cabin you and your family have. We loved the coziness about it the best. This was my sister's first experience in a cabin and she loved it. We had a very short stay but memories for a lifetime. Our daughter was most excited. All the board games, DVD's. We watched Tom Sawyer and that was such a lovely family moment for us. Though we couldn't spend more time here as we were at Yosemite. We hope we will be able to visit again.

Thank you so much!

Pleasant home, but horrible experience with the owner

  • 2 of 5

The home is a quaint, simple home. The owner does not disclose all of her "outrageous" requirements. Although you are expected to pay a high cleaning fee, you are expected to wash, dry, and fold all linen. If some crumbs are left on the floor your security deposit is deducted. Even if you find the house in a lower condition than her demands, you still have money deducted. I have stayed in many rental homes and have never been expected to clean so much. She is allowed to have her demands, but they should be disclosed before you pay and are stuck in the rental!!

Owner's Response: I am sorry you are upset that I had to take money from your security deposit but I did write and tell you why and we both know it was more than a few crumbs on the floor. Yes, I do have requirements for how to leave the house and I do let my renters know before they even come into the house. But I do not think that turning off all the lights and electrical that is running and not leave water running anywhere is outrageous. I also expect people to empty the wastebaskets and and take out the garbage. It is not good to leave trash in the house as sometimes it may have left over food that could smell up the house or even heaven forbid some baby diapers. Besides food leaving smells it can also attract ants as can some food left lying on the floor. Many of these requirements, I have had to follow when we have rented houses ourselves. I have been renting this house for over 15 years and people who have rented it are exceptional about making sure the house is in as good a shape when they leave as it was when they arrived. There have only been about a handful of people who I have had to take some of their security deposit away and I have always let them know why.

Great location

  • 4 of 5

The location was great. Easy access to Yosemite and when you're done with your Yosemite day having the lake nearby was awesome!! The kids found time to swim in the lake every day!

The cooking essentials were there, but pretty outdated.

Overall, for the price, it was awesome!!

Thanks to Sally for sharing her home.

Quiet and plenty of room

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The cabin provided our family of six plenty of room for lounging and sleeping. The kitchen had everything we needed, and it was very nice having a washer and dryer. We grilled and made our own meals most evenings, and really enjoyed sitting outside and eating on the deck....no bugs, and very peaceful/quiet. The cabin is very clean, and the surrounding area (Pine Mountain Lake) is very nice. The kids also enjoyed swimming in the lake....the water and beach were nice. It was very hot when we were there, and the AC and breeze at night cooled down the cabin enough for us. The beds/rooms were all nice, and the kids enjoyed the loft. We did not think the drive to Yosemite was that bad...appx 40-45 mins? Sally was very prompt whenever we communicated with her....which was appreciated. Overall..we really enjoyed our stay !!

Very nice and clean cabin

  • 5 of 5

The cabin is very nice, clean and beautiful with lots of utensils for use. It is conveniently located about half an hour to the gate to Yosemite. In a not so busy date in June, it takes us about an hour to drive to the Yosemite valley. We enjoyed the peaceful and quiet stay in the cabin with deers visiting occasionally in the backyard. Kally is very nice and gave quick responses to any question I had. I would recommend this cabin to those who want to have a vacation in Yosemite.
