I've personnaly selected all the furnishings and take personal responsibility for all the maintenance and safe upkeep of this property. I take pride in ownership, and seek to have our guests total satisfaction. Smileaway is located in the Whalehead subdivision of Corolla, NC. This means there are large, clean and uncrowded beaches. It's close to important shopping amenities like a grocery store, beach accessories and numerous restaurants. But its 20 miles from the crowded suburbia of Kitty Hawk or Nags Head.

What makes this house unique

Smileaway has excellent amenities, which can appeal to all age groups. We have games, out door activities, high-speed wireless internet and many beach related accessories like carts, chairs, boogie boards. Our location to the beach is ideal..not so far so it's any easy, short and safe walk. And you don't have to pay oceanfront prices.

Pleasant Family Trip!

The property was very nice. We enjoyed the pool, sitting out on the decks, and the hot tub on the nice days. The beach was close by and a quick walk. It was handy to have the games to entertain as there was much rain during our trip. The kitchen was very well stocked. The backyard needed some work by the volleyball set, but that is to be expected as it's the start of the season. We also didn't use it so it didn't matter much to us. John, the property owner, was responsive and took care of sending people out when we notified him about a computer password issue and answered questions. We had 14 people with the aunts, cousins, and grandparents and it was a wonderful opportunity to spend time together.

Great Location, Great Pool & Hot Tub

We had a great time at Smile Away, it was well stocked with all the kitchen utensils and appliances we needed. The wagons and chairs we were able to take to the beach were very helpful. John Carter was great to work with!

Great stay!!

We had a wonderful time at the Smileaway! We had 20 total, and there was room for all. It was close to the beach and we had plenty to do at the house, basketball, pool, hot tub, games, puzzles, air hockey, horse shoes, and more!

New furniture was delivered while we were here, which shows the owner is keeping things new and updated.

The kitchen is well stocked in terms of pots, pans and utensils, but lacked any spices. I assume it is a liability to keep anything consumable.

The beds were comfortable and we slept well. There were extra pillows and blankets.

We enjoyed our stay and will definitely be back!

Constructive thoughts:

1) There are a lot of cobwebs in the main living area, on the ceiling and in the corners. Would be awesome if those were cleaned occasionally.

2) Having even salt and pepper there to augment food would go a long way.

3) Having either a guide to the house or labels to where things are. For example, the basketballs were a little deflated, and we didn't find the pump until the last day.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback and we appreciate your business. Here is some follow up on your comments: 1) Cobwebs - these are cleaned 100% every Saturday by our cleaning team - they usually spend 8-12 manhours getting the house ready for the next guest. It only takes a few minutes of a guest leaving a door open in the evening or at night, and a few small critters can come in - which attracts small spiders that spin these small webs. It's very common and unless the guests are stringent about keeping the doors and windows shut, this can happen. I didn't receive any feedback from the guest during their stay regarding this - but we would normally send in the cleaning crew if we were notified. 2) Salt and Pepper -we are NOT allowed to leave any foodstuffs for guests. This is a NC regulation. Sorry. 3) We do try to label what we think is critical. However, our guests can contact us 24/7 if there is a question - and our phone number is printed clearly on each floor so the guests can contact us anytime. And even if we put the pump in a drawer and labeled it, there is NO guarantee the guests would put it back. Sometimes this does not happen and it's very difficult to insure it all gets put back to the proper place.

Nice house with great amenities.

We enjoyed our vacation at SmileAway very much. The house was exactly as advertised. It is very well stocked with amenities of good quality. We had a problem with a master bedroom toilet leaking. The owner returned our call immediately and a plumber arrived that day. The leak was fixed the next day with a new part. The owner stressed letting him know about maintenance problems, therefore the property is well maintained. The house is an easy walk to beach, unfortunately the closest beach access involved many stairs which is difficult with baby strollers. There is a handicapped access about 5 blocks further down. We used a great cart provided by the owner for our beach things and left it at the bottom of the ramp.

The house is conveniently located to shopping, restaurants and activities. I would recommend this property to friends and family.

Best place to stay in the Outer Banks!

Smile Away was a great place for our family to have a family reunion! The house was beautiful and spacious with plenty of room for our family gatherings. The house was spotless and the kitchen was awesome for all of us that shared the cooking. We not only got a chance to enjoy the beach but the great pool in the backyard along with the hot tub for adults. Our family would love to go back! The house was close to shopping and a variety of activities.

Perfect for us!

Our party of 8 adults and 6 kids (ages 2-7) loved SmileAway! The pool was wonderful and well maintained. The house is beautifully decorated and well stocked. A highlight for us was the kids play equipment in the back yard. Our little ones LOVED it. The backyard is big and private. It was a little further from the beach than we were expecting (ocean views were not visible except for the very top deck and even them only a sliver), but it worked fine for us as we don't want to pay oceanfront prices. John was wonderful to work with and stayed in contact with me throughout the stay to check in, answer questions, and give us a heads up about pool guy coming, i.e. The location of the home is great and very close to stores and restaurants. Our group might be smaller next year; otherwise we would have already booked again! Wonderful family vacation spot!
