Summerlee - Luxury Chesapeake Bay Waterfront with Sandy Beach!

Bedrooms 5
Property type house
Minimum Stay 1 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 5 Bedrooms, 5 Baths, (Sleeps 10-12)

Summerlee awaits you (5 bedrooms, 5 baths total). This classic beach house has been fully renovated and luxuriously appointed. The house features an open floor plan for easy entertaining. Situated directly on Chesapeake, hear the waves while you cook, read or relax; see diverse wildlife including, herons, swans, ospreys, bald eagles, and pelicans through expansive glass doors, from the screened-in porch, the wrap-around deck or the large deck off the master bedroom. Or, grab a beach chair or towel and head for the private sandy beach. The open floor plan, complete with a large kitchen, dining room, 2 sitting rooms and a TV room allows a large family or group to be together whether cooking, playing games, watching television or just relaxing. A crackling fire in the wood burning fireplace makes winter days at Summerlee as enticing as summer days. Enjoy a weekend wine tasting at nearby Woodlawn plantation - Slack wines dot com.

A short-bike ride away is Point Lookout State Park, a Civil War site. Today the park, which is located at the intersection of the Chesapeake Bay and the Potomac River, hosts miles of protected land set aside for biking, kayaking, boating, fishing, camping or enjoying nature as well as a museum that provides a historical perspective on the region. Or charter a boat at one of many local marinas for a day of fishing on the Bay. Another nearby historical site is St. Mary's City (10 miles), the original capital of Maryland. Visitors are 25 minutes from dining and shopping on Solomon's Island or in historic Leonardtown. Or enjoy one of several local marina restaurants. Want a day trip away? All that the nation's capital has to offer is a short 80 miles away.

Collect shells and beach glass while walking uninterrupted for miles along the sandy beach. Unlike typical cheek-by-jowl beach houses, Summerlee offer its visitors bayfront accommodations on an acre of land. Enjoy rare waterfront privacy so close to major cities and amenities.

About Peggy Binzel

Love urban life; also, love the isolated beach with amazing wildlife. Scotland is a welcome retreat from hectic city life.

Peggy Binzel purchased this house in 2007

Why Peggy Binzel chose Point Lookout

Scotland is a rare find. Rarely do you find an area that begins with beautiful forests and opens up onto fabulous beaches. Little traffic but only 2 hours from Washington or Baltimore. I discovered a jewel.

What makes this house unique

Sunrise over the Bay with morning coffee is heavenly. Walks on the beach. Take a 30 minute kayak ride or a 5 hours one - very convenient out the front door. Enjoy a tasting of good quality local wines at beautiful Woodlawn plantation just 10 miles away.

This home was peace and beauty all in one. The home is well decorated with everything and clean!

From the time we entered this well hidden gem until we left (we didn’t want to leave!), we loved this rental. The water, the inlet (full of crabs just for the picking), the location - we enjoyed it all. We will be back and thanks again for a wonderful stay!

Great place for Bay fishing

  • 4 of 5

We have a group that goes fishing on the Bay every year. This was the second year we stayed at Summerlee, and once again it was comfortable and convenient to everything we needed.

Peggy's houses are the best

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Summerlee during the past three summers, and at Kentigern before that.

We love the area and Peggy's houses are beautifully appointed and perfect for a family or group

stay. Having kayaks and bikes included is wonderful. The property managers are very responsive when a problem pops up, and they have always been minor for us and taken

care of promptly. Peggy's properties are dependably stylish, and equipped with the comfort of her guests in mind. This house in particular is just as pictured, and we think has the best beach of all her properties. We have rented a property from Peggy four years in a row, and that speaks for itself in the way of a recommendation.

First time on Chesapeake Bay, couldn't have picked a better location!

  • 5 of 5

Beautiful place, fantastic location, we had the added fortune to enjoy incredible weather as well. Kayaking on the bay was an added bonus, sunrises in the morning captured breathtaking scenery! The kitchen could use a little updating as there was some to be desired, needs more cups, utensils and such. Could've used a blender to compliment the beach setting, lol, but no real deal breakers here. The screened in porch was nice to sit and play cards, or games at night. Bedrooms are spacious and bathrooms great. The beach at night offered an incredible view of the stars, with the milky way in full bloom. The osprey flying around and nest on the pier was pretty cool too. Couldn't believe it was time to go, that the week was over and we wanted more!

Good chance to return here or maybe one of Peggy & Rob's other places : )

Owner's Response: Summerlee is a magical place and we are delighted that these guests enjoy their stay and hope they return soon! We are sorry they had a shortage of cups and other kitchenware. Items seems to develop legs and run away. In any case, this guest is correct and we appreciate the feedback. We have restocked the kitchen, including a blender. We kindly remind guests that if they arrive at a house and find insufficient kitchenware or the like, they may contact our property managers for resupply. We want your stay to be fabulous in every way.

A truly great family vacation

  • 5 of 5

The 10 of us (3 families from 3 different states) gathered for a week at this beautiful and accommodating home. We loved the beach and also had great fun kayaking and using the paddle boards we rented. Having a bathroom with each of the five bedrooms was very convenient and we loved the screened porch. Upper floor rooms for eating, playing games or watching TV were great. We rode bikes some but mostly swam and played at the beach so close to the house. This is a very quiet, peaceful part of Maryland so if you love the beach life, this will be for you!

Fantastic house - great for our large group!

  • 5 of 5

We rented this house for a family reunion and it was outstanding! The spacious 5 BDR + 5BA was perfect for our two families + grandparents - comfort and privacy. The home is beautifully decorated with two sitting areas inside and a lovely screened in porch with additional seating. The porch had a table seating six and there was an additional outdoor table for 6 on the deck off the master - so many great options! The dining table easily accommodated our group of 11 and the kitchen was very well stocked to feed our crew for the week. We used both bikes and kayaks provided every day and loved having our own private beach right out the door. We caught crabs every day and also enjoyed walks around the neighborhood - it is such a lovely peaceful and quiet place. Peggy was wonderful to work with and we hope to return again to this marvelous location!
