Why Brian Stiffler chose North Carolina

I built Stone Mountain Serenity in 2008 and picked this location because of the amazing views, complete privacy, abundant wildlife and great hiking.

What makes this cabin unique

Enjoying the breathtaking views while in front of a bonfire is one of my favorite cabin activities. Hiking Stone Mnt State Park and Doughton Park are other must do's while visiting the area. My boys love the rock slide at Widow Falls in Stone Mnt Park, which always ends with ice cream at the country store. There is nothing better than enjoying a cold NC craft beer on the deck, while watching an amazing sunset over the mountains...the uplighting can be mesmerizing at times. Touring all of the local wineries with friends and ending with dinner at the Harvest Grill at Shelton makes for a great day.

Exactly as described... and then some

  • 5 of 5

We were lookling for a nice, relaxing place with great views and away from everything, and this place was absolutely perfect. Very secluded, this home was very spacious, clean, and had every amenity that we wanted and needed. The views were spectacular and we really loved the fireplace in the great room. Also, the ping pong/pool table downstairs was a lot of fun. The decor was perfect as well, and we grilled out one night and it was a treat to grill out under a clear sky.

A few pointers, though... This home definitely is secluded and could be a little difficult getting to in snowy conditions. While there is a wal-mart about 30 min away, there certainly isn't much in terms of shopping or other within 20-30 min, so I you need something be prepared to drive. That being said, blowing rock and boone are an hour away and well worth the trip. And, we didn't get any cell reception, but for me that was a positive, and there was internet so we weren't completely cut off from the world. I did, however, get some cell reception @ the top of the driveway, but that was the only place within a few miles where I got any.

Again, I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for family time, seclusion, relaxation, a view, and fresh mountain air. The owner is a pleasure to deal with and the transaction was as smooth as could be. He refunded me the full security deposit before we even got home. Thanks again, and can't wait to head back for another perfect vacation!!!

Owner's Response: The Verizon cell service at the cabin is very good...all others are a bit difficult. A new convenience store just opened 5 miles from the cabin.

Amazing Views!

  • 5 of 5

When we first pulled up to the cabin, we immediately went to the backyard to check out the mountains. Holy cow - the view is just absolutely breathtaking! We have stayed in a couple other cabins in the area, and there is no view quite like this.

The cabin was totally stocked with everything we needed. Kitchen supplies, Keurig, pots/pans, leftover pantry ingredients, fresh towels, laundry detergent - it literally had everything we could ever need. For entertainment - there was Netflix on each TV, ping pong/pool, board games, and of course the awesome fire pit in the back to make smores.

The cabin was so clean and beautifully decorated. It is very well maintained. The drive up the mountain really wasn't bad at all - paved about halfway up, and then turns to gravel. We didn't have trouble getting up in our Hyundai Elantra at all (no rain or snow when we went).

Overall, it was a great experience! We will be back :)

One of our favorite places!

  • 5 of 5

This was my family's 3rd year at this property, we really love it! It's a great place to kick back, relax, and spend some quality family time. The house is very comfortable, and the view is excellent. Everything is as advertised, and the owner is available if anything is needed (but usually it's not). We will continue to visit.

Beautiful Isolated Location, perfect getaway

  • 5 of 5

The owner responded to every question very quickly and was extremely helpful. He even went as far as to advise us to shop for groceries prior to our arrival which saved us a long trip. The cabin was spacious and open, a fully stocked kitchen and large counter space made it for easy socializing while cooking and eating. The view was nothing short of spectacular, it truly took our breath away. The state park was only a 15 minute drive and provided three trails that we hiked in two days. We were only there for 4 days so we didn't get to the other park or the vineyard, but we will definitely see them on a return trip next year.

It was a bit hard to find at first but the directions were accurate. If it were winter or raining heavily it would not be advised to attempt to get to the house without 4-wheel drive, one poor shift or slip of the steering wheel could require a tow to get you out. Some would say that would be a reason to not book this cabin, but I felt it was part of the charm and adventure of unplugging for the weekend. Great place, every moment was invaluable!

Owner's Response: We are so glad you had an enjoyable stay and hope to have you back soon. The steepest section of road is paved and the balance is well maintained gravel. We use a rear wheel drive car all of the time and have never had an issue.
