Sky Mountain Chalet, a romantic, low-cost, relaxing getaway adventure close to home.
When my husband and I first went to Berkeley Springs to have a relaxing weekend, we found the area to be energizing and relaxing all at the same time. We loved the area so much we went back again and eventually bought a farm and house we call Sky Mountain Farm. A few years later we built the cedar chalet on the next ridge which we rent to vacationers. Check our our new 3BR Log Cabin VRBO #268695 and our Honeymoon Cabin Fox Hollow VRBO #419811. The Chalet is a great place to stay for two people or a larger group.
We hope you enjoy our chalet as much as we do.
Jackie Clark purchased this chalet in 2008
My husband and I own a hardware store in Maryland and we will be retiring soon when the next generation takes over. We wanted to build a retirement business and since one of our favorite places is Berkeley Springs, we decided that would be a great place for a retirement business. Berkeley Springs has wonderful water, a nice community and is only 90 minutes away.
We love the hiking, the wildlife, canoeing on the Cacapon and Potomac rivers, and fishing in the streams. It is a wonderful place to get together with family as kids of all ages can find something interesting to do.
The sky mountain chalet was fantastic and we had a GREAT weekend at the chalet. I came with a group of 10 adults. We picked it for the hot tub, which fits 5 or a very cozy 6. We were pleased to find that the chalet was surrounded by nothing but mountains -- it was SO relaxing.
There was more sleeping space than we expected. We should have invited more people!! There are 3 floors -- the top floor is only the master bedroom and master bath. But the space its enormous and has a pull-out couch that sleeps two, and two additional single/twin beds that overlook/are open to the living room.
The property managers were fantastic and very helpful. They sent us an email full of activities nearby and recommended vendors before we arrived. And when we had a tiny household problem upon arrival, they had it fixed in about an hour.
Yet another year for our Girl's Weekend! This place is just fantastic. Jackie and her son, Jay, were both extremely helpful. We even had a quick question about the hot tub and Jackie answered right away. The house is just amazing and nothing in the description is inaccurate (except there is no Apples to Apples game, but we learned from last year and brought our own!).
The view is great while sitting in the hot tub, campfire is so relaxing in the evening, grill worked well for our steaks and hot dogs and everything you need in the kitchen even whipped up some cream! The rooms are spacious with enough bathrooms on each floor. The screened porch and the open upper/lower decks are the best part. The Chalet truly makes for a great vacation.
Tari's for lunch and Atasia Spa were wonderful as always and I highly recommend if you go into town. Always good antique shopping as well.
We had a reunion of high school friends for the weekend, and the chalet was perfect! We even had a baby and a pregnant lady who report that the sounds of the large group were pretty muffled in the furthest back rooms. Having two different spaces for socializing was great. We were here in the winter, so only used the hot tub outside, but the porch (including the screened-in section) looked like a wonderful place to sit in nicer weather. And we did take advantage of the big yard to play some football, and walked in the woods on the property. I highly recommend it!
This is very nearly a perfect vacation home. We spent a week there with our family, including our five year old grandson. There has been a lot of thought given to making sure we had what we needed, and basically everything was there. This house is much nicer than the description conveys. On the first floor, there is a living area, dining area, kitchen, and two bedrooms, one a king sized bed and the other two twins. In the daylight basement, there is another bedroom with a king sized bed, and a second bedroom with two twins. This level also has a full bath, laundry, family room with fireplace and pool/ping pong table. There is a bar area with frig, too. The second floor has another bedroom with king sized bed, with a loft area that has two twin beds. This floor also has its own bath. Having three bedrooms with king sized beds made it very nice, so each couple had privacy as well as the ability to join the group. And my grandson was able to sleep near but not with mom and dad, and he could watch tv in the mornings while the grownups slept. We're already planning to return. Thanks to the owners.
The setting is breathtaking -- we sat on the deck in the mornings, watching the mist burn off the mountains. This was just a very nice vacation.
The Chalet is even nicer than it appears in the internet pictures. The Chalet is immaculate! There is not a bad bedroom; each has it own charm. However, my favorite is the loft bedroom. The balcony is a nice cosy place to sit in the morning and late evening when you need a little quiet time. The screened in porch is fantastic!! The hot tub was a huge hit! The pool table kept everyone entertained. There was so much to enjoy in and around the Chalet, that you could vacation just staying on the property! However, there is plenty to do in the area, so definitely get out and see the sights in Berkeley Springs/Bath and the surrounding area. Dinner out...you simply must try Lot 12 Public House! Jackie is fantastic! She answers questions and ensures that visitors have a truly wonderful place to stay!
What an incredibly relaxing and rewarding vacation we had at the chalet. From the moment we walked in and saw how beautiful both the inside views and outside views were to the moment we left, we had such an enjoyable time.
Words cannot describe the beauty and peacefulness of the chalet and surrounding area. We were joined by our two adult children for several days. We went horseback riding, fly fishing in the Potomac River, bowling, antiquing, and enjoying the local cuisine. Early mornings were spent on the deck watching the birds (favorites were the downy and pileated woodpeckers, American goldfinches, and indigo buntings) and other wildlife (deer, squirrels, rabbits, and groundhog).
The ping pong table and pool table provided great fun for everyone. The screened porch was perfect for an outdoor meal out of the direct sunlight during the day and away from bugs at night. An evening at the big fire pit or in the hot tub with the small fire pit going and the stars out was a perfect way to forget about work and other stresses.
It was a great way to decompress from the hectic world in which we normally live. Our children loved the place despite the challenge of no internet connectivity (they lived through it, though). Sometimes not being connected is a beautiful thing.
We also had a great trip down to Skyline Drive and then passed back through Star Tannery, VA for a tour and vertical wine tasting at Cedar Creek Winery - winner of numerous awards each year that they have been producing wine. If you don't mind an hour drive up the Shenandoah Valley, take the time to get a tour and do a vertical tasting. www.cedarcreekvineyard.com
Perhaps the highlight of the week was an evening thunderstorm that ended with a beautiful double rainbow across the Sleepy Creek valley.
We came back relaxed and refreshed ... and a desire to go back again in the future. Without doubt, we will be returning again and again.
