WELCOME!

Mansfield House, a lovely and spacious mountain home, sits on 100+ acres of classic Vermont property. Located at the base of Mt. Mansfield and nearby Smugglers Notch, a vacation here is filled with a wide range of seasonal activities for the active and the relaxed.

BEDROOM HIGHLIGHTS

There are two sleeping areas at opposite ends of the house. Two bedrooms (queen and king beds) are at the northern end of the house, with a shared bathroom featuring a field stone wall, tile, and walk-in shower. The southern end of the house features a bunkroom and 2 queen bedrooms, one with a twin trundle bed. There is a shared bathroom for these rooms, featuring a Vermont slate floor, vessel sink, and tub/shower. Also at this end of the house is the Master bedroom with king Tempur-pedic bed and a large en suite bathroom with walk-in shower and sweeping view of Mount Mansfield. All the bedrooms have been recently renovated and each has lovely linens and quilts.

INTERIOR HIGHLIGHTS

The interior features cathedral ceilings, a large living room with field stone fireplace, and a field stone wall in the dining area, as well as wide oak and brick floors. Lovely views delight visitors from every window.

An open kitchen/dining area is at the center of the house. The 12-person birdseye maple dining room table has a sweeping view of Mt. Mansfield. This open area is wonderful for group cooking and socializing while enjoying the colors of a magnificent sunset.

There is a den off the kitchen with a second fireplace, sofa bed, and a second TV - nice for movies, cozy chats, or quiet reading. This space is also wonderful for children's movies, board games, or a quick escape from the bustle of the household.

We also take great pride in a very clean house - all the rooms are cleaned professionally using only all natural products.

OUTDOOR HIGHLIGHTS

The outdoor hot tub is available for soaking, while gazing up at Mt. Mansfield, or the stars.

A beautiful field above the pond is suitable for a large tent for hosting family reunions, small weddings, and other events.

The two acre swimming pond, sandy beach, beautifully landscaped lawns and gardens, and walking/XC skiing (or snowshoe) trails offer both activity and quiet, suitable for the energetic and the serene.

Looking for the country life and time with family or friends? You will love this setting.

Two very popular Vermont destinations are close:Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream Factory is 30 minutes away, and the Shelburne Museum, a large and fascinating 'living' museum is 45 minutes away. Lake Champlain, UVM, and St. Michaels College are all within easy reach. Hunting is possible in the area but not on the property please. Space for badminton, croquet, and soccer behind house, visible from kitchen and living room. Large swimming pond in front field.

About Patricia Evans

Built in 1965, Mansfield House is owned by a large Vermont family that enjoys seasonal visits here for hiking, skiing, snowshoeing, and swimming. Our parents/grandparents designed and built the property, and as a result Mansfield House has the feel of a visit to a family home. Photos of the family decorate one long hallway, and the Airplane room hints of the adventurous aviation history of Granddad's days as a pilot. The gardens and clear view to the mountain still reflect the family's love of beautiful outdoor spaces.

Patricia Evans purchased this house in 1965

Guestbook comments from the manager

Fall Wedding Fun

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our time at Mountain House. We rented the house as our base for our son's wedding. Members of our family stayed with us at the house. The house is beautiful, and very personal, with family photos, paintings and memorabilia throughout. The house was also fully equipped, so we had everything we needed. The setting is great. Out the kitchen window we could see as far as Lake Champlain (a sliver of blue) and the Adirondack Mountains, and out the dining room window we looked at Mt. Mansfield. The evening light on the pond in front of the house was gorgeous. The wedding was in Richmond, so the house was very convenient for getting supplies in Burlington and making preparations at the wedding site. It also provided the perfect environment for our small rehearsal dinner. The biking and hiking from the house was wonderful. The house is very long, so the bedrooms are located on two wings, spaced far enough apart so everyone enjoyed privacy when they wanted it. The kitchen is very open and proved an natural gathering place in the morning for coffee, scones and talking. Betsy was great if we needed anything. It really was a great setting for our family gathering. Would love to go back to Mountain House again.

Owner's Response: When it's time to create a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, it's important for it to be convenient, intimate, and dramatically beautiful. We are so glad that Mansfield House could provide all of that! As this reviewer has described, the light at the house can be very magical - the sunsets turn Mt. Mansfield pink and the rosy light over the Adirondacks can linger for a delightfully long time. The huge windows allow extensive views in both directions. If you love magical light and mountain adventure, in a warm, comfortable setting, come and enjoy Mansfield House!

Wonderful Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had such a wonderful stay in the house. The house is very tastefully appointed and charming and very clean. It really didn't seem like a rental as it had all sort of nicknacks and books and cookbooks - as if someone really lives there. The kitchen had every sort of cooking utensil you could ever need and in fact it seemed like we were staying at a friend's house rather than a rental. It is located in a quiet lovely spot with mountain and meadow views. Everyone fell in love with the huge black lovable Newfoundland that welcomed us when we arrived. The house is great for two families. We had 4 adults, 2 small children and 6 older teenagers and had more than enough room. The house seems to have 3 sections: two bedrooms on the left side - one with a queen and one with a king - for the adults with a shared bath, which can be closed off from the living room for privacy (or to keep out the noise), a large kitchen and living room section with huge real fireplace, and then another bedroom section on the otherside of the house that sleeps 12 (4 bedrooms and a den with queen pullout couch) - perfect for all the kids to take over that part of the house. The kitchen setup was great for group cooking and chatting. We got all the kids making homemade pizzas around the large center island and they all had a ball. Even our teenagers absolutely loved the house and want to go back - especially for the hot tub and snow rolling at night! Patricia was also so helpful answering questions and even mailing back some shoes we had left there. We all hope to go back next year for a longer stay. Thank you for such a nice memory!

Owner's Response: This is in fact our very well-loved family home that our mom and dad designed and built. We want it to feel homey and comfortable, but uncluttered so renters have plenty of space. The kitchen is really good fun for group cooking, and the two separate sleeping areas are very well-suited to the needs of differing age groups. We are so grateful to have renters who treat our property with care and respect, and enjoy our property as their own home-away-from home.

incredibly beautiful property

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect place for a reunion with my friends from Smith College! We had a great time and the owner was easy to work with! Glad she informed us we needed to bring toilet paper and paper towels as they only provide enough to start with which has not been our experience when renting houses with VRBO/Home Away in the past. Everything else was provided and everything was clearly labeled and easy to find. Everyone loved the house and the property which was incredibly beautiful with the awesome pond! The top bunk bed is meant for children 6 and under but we did not need to use it with our group. There is a neighbor immediately next door who has an adorable giant puppy who kept stealing our shoes which was somewhat annoying but the neighbor would bring them right back. We loved the puppy and the neighbor was very kind. Loved the open kitchen and the beds were very comfortable! Would definitely stay here again!! Lovely time was had by all!!

Scenic Paradise

  • 5 of 5

We loved the Mansfield House and property. The views and landscaping were indeed spectacular and the house was well suited to a large family traveling together. There were lots of lovely spaces to gather as a large group or for small private conversations. We had an event on the grounds that worked out beautifully. We recommend this gorgeous property for a large family or for friends traveling together. For us, it felt like home and the house was an easy commute to Burlington, Shelburn Farms, etc.

Owner's Response: We love sharing our Vermont paradise - it is indeed a spectacular place for families and friends to gather, both indoors and out. We are also excited to tell our guests that we have just completed phase 2 of window replacement. The kitchen/ dining room area in particular is stunning, with a new 8' window that looks out to the pond, fields, rolling hills, and views of the sunset. Come and enjoy Mansfield House!

Great time on family vacation

  • 4 of 5

We had Mountain house for a week for a family vacation. It was so spacious and comfortable, and exactly as described. The kitchen was fantastically well equipped and roomy. We enjoyed mountain hikes on Manchester, and visits to Burlington, about 40 minutes away. The only drawback for us was that the pond was sort of scummy and uninviting for swimming, but we all enjoyed the hot tub.

Owner's Response: We are so delighted when guests have a great time on our property. The spacious sleeping and kitchen set up, beautiful mountain views, and hot tub are perfect for family time. Our country pond, with a small amount of pine needles floating about, is different than a pool, but our 3 generations of family all love the pond and spend most of our summer visits playing on the small sandy beach and swimming in the clean, mountain-fed waters. Come and enjoy our classic Vermont setting!

Spacious house in a spectacular and quiet setting

  • 5 of 5

We booked the Mansfield house for our family reunion. We had a wonderful time in this spacious home. The grounds are spectacular, the garden is beautifully maintained. We enjoyed barbecues with a view, canoeing on the lake and campfires. You hike Mount Mansfield straight from the house. Quaint villages nearby. We loved it!
