Shenandoah Valley Farm House

Bedrooms 3
Space 3,100 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 9)

Purple Haze farm house (circa 1908) was totally renovated in 2006. We are a 200 acre working farm with cattle and crops, fronting the South River, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can see the house from overlooks on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The view from the house will cure high blood pressure in a minute.

Because it is an old farm house with additions (total of around 3100 sq ft} the floor plan is unique. Downstairs includes all the public rooms plus a full bath. Upstairs includes three bedrooms (one queen and two doubles), a bunk room with a single and bunks which sleeps 3, and two full baths. One of the baths is off a central hall, the other is off one of the double bed bedroom. The upstairs rooms are on three levels, often requiring a step or two between rooms and the hall. If you are a person easily disoriented when you wake up at night, you may want to stay in the room with the ensuite bath with no steps. Also, it has a metal roof, so you will hear rain and wind storms if one arises.

The address is 118 Hall School Rd, Waynesboro, VA 22980, should you wish to map it.

While only a few miles from the interstate, we are in a lovely rural setting. With 3/4 mile frontage on the South River, we have lovely paths for hiking and gentle water for canoeing (no rapids) and fishing, bass and trout. This area is particularly nice for biking, with many rural roads, and excellent mountain biking trails nearby in the national forest. With 24 wineries within 25 miles, you can enjoy a grand tour or just visit a couple only 10 minutes away. Lake Sherando is 15 minutes away for swimming. We also have pool passes at two nearby hotels so you can swim indoors or out.

In the Fall the colors of the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah Valley are amazing. There is no extra charge for them.

You'll have a full modern kitchen, or many restaurants nearby for dining. The den features a card table and a large HD TV with DVD. In the barn there is foosball and ping pong. We have an outside basketball court, and lots of area for soccer.

Behind the house there is a patio with a wonderful view of the property and the Blue Ridge Mountains. The patio includes a firepit and a hottub.

If you are so inclined, you can visit our chickens and three miniture donkeys, Fiona,Fergie and baby Olive. You can win their hearts with an apple or carrot, or by brushing their coats.

We are less than 30 minutes from Charlottesville (Monticello and University of Virginia), Wintergreen(golf and skiing) and Staunton(Frontier museum and Shakespeare Theater). 45 minutes from Harrisonburg, Masanutten with it's waterpark and skiing, Lexington and the Safari zoo. About 2 hours from Richmond, Williamsburg, Jamestown and 3 hours from Washington DC and Virginia Beach.

Dulles airport is 2.5 hours and Richmond airport is about 90 minutes.

Come settle in on our farm for a week, take in all the fun activities in the area, and then relax with the comforts and room of home.

11/2015 update: the donkeys are still here, but olive is no longer a baby, although she is smaller. They are fat (Deana spoils them), but still love carrot treats.

About Brad Tipler

Brad, Deana, Dalton, Liam and a host of animals live on the farm. Deana was born and raised in the area. Brad moved here 25 years ago to work, fell in love with the area and Deana. Neither is leaving.

We bought the farm in 2004, and moved into the farm house a few years later. In 2009 we built a new home on the farm, and thus the farm house became available for VRBO.

Awesome views and beautiful home

  • 5 of 5

The Shenandoah Valley Farm House is a beautiful farm house close to everything you need yet far away from the hustle and bustle. We use to live in this area and and came back for our son's wedding. We chose this house because of the space it provided but also location. It is close to so much yet you have the quiet, stillness. We sat on the porch and watched the sun go down while drinking our coffee. We sat in the back and watched the wildlife in the afternoon.

The interior has been completely undated and has beautiful wooden stairs. The house has plenty of room for maneuvering throughout without getting in each others way. Plenty of space for vehicles as well. We appreciate the owners too for being available for questions and providing flowers for our arrival and some treats! We are keeping this one on our list for the future!

Beautiful farmhouse inside and out

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful big farmhouse with 4 separate bedrooms, 3 full baths and plenty of space for guests. We have stayed in summer and winter months and the AC/heat work great as well. Outside the views of the sunrise over the valley are spectacular. Located about 10 minutes outside of Waynesboro and off the highway the location is nice and quiet but also close to plenty of restaurants and stores. Owners live very close by and take care of anything that comes up immediately. This is a great place to stay for an extended time or just a long weekend with the parkway and hiking trails close by.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the kind words. We have enjoyed having you folks here. Hope you can come again, but since you have decided to move to our beautiful area, I guess that is less likely. Anyway, thanks for being such thoughtful guests.

Rented the farmhouse for my family traveling into the area for my daughter's wedding. We are all farm/country people and absolutely loved getting to stay at this gem of a farm house. They made everything SO EASY for our stay and as mother of the bride I was very grateful. It was wonderful!

Picture Perfect Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriends and I had a fabulous weekend staying at the farmhouse. We toured the wineries near by. It took less than 20 minutes to get to Veritas and Pollack. The farmhouse is just so adorable and much bigger in person. It was stocked with everything we needed. We enjoyed the fire pit two out of three nights. We are already planning another trip!
